Max Deason Obituary

Max Carlton Deason, Sr. 1938 – 2025 Our beloved Max Carlton Deason died in his sleep on February 11, 2025 at the age of 86. Max is survived by his wife, Rita Broadway of Memphis, his brother, Charles Mark Deason (wife Patti) of Dresden, TN, great grandchildren, Addyson Presley and Maximus Chase Writala of Memphis, nephew Jeffery Scott Deason (wife Lisa) and other extended family members. Max was preceded in death by his son, Max Carlton (Carl) Deason, Jr., father, B.C. Deason, his mother, Eunice Meacham Deason, and his granddaughter, Michelle (Angel) Deason. Max was born on June 30, 1938 in Fulton, Kentucky, but considered himself a lifelong Memphian. He attended Memphis Technical High School and graduated from Memphis State University (now The University of Memphis). Max had many interests and held several jobs over his lifetime. He was an innkeeper for Holiday Inn, and a driver for South Central Bell. But Max's true love was driving. Even after retirement, he drove friends and neighbors to doctor's appointments and grocery stores. Max was a lifelong Democrat and as a young man worked in the campaigns of both local and national politicians. Max was a member of The Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Memphis where he served as Treasurer for many years. As a member of the UUA, Max supported civil rights. He joined protests and demonstrations. He marched with Dr. Martin Luther King. He participated in the 1968 Poor People's March on Washington. He joined black white encounter groups and community groups that were designed to connect black and white communities in Memphis. Max had a passion for life and his memory will be treasured by both friends and family. We love Max and will miss him. Friends and family will gather to honor Max later this year. Please send any donations to: Alzheimer's Association (to honor his mother) American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) in support of Max's beliefs and values. Serenity Funeral Home, Tel.(901)379-0861
