Thurman Downs Obituary

Thurman "Doug" Downs Jr., 66, passed away peacefully on February 21, 2025. Doug was born on February 19, 1959, in Memphis, TN to the late Thurman Douglas Downs Sr. and Erna Delva Daugherty Downs. He dedicated his career to the trucking industry, working for FedEx before retiring after 30+ years. Doug spent many years singing and playing his guitars across the Midsouth. When he wasn't inside singing, Doug was outside riding on one of his many motorcycles, fixing up or rebuilding vehicles, or building something incredible from scratch just for fun. Doug loved always having his dog by his side, even to go inside Walmart. When Doug was not partaking in one of his favorite hobbies, he was spending time with his family. Thurman is survived by siblings, sister, Patricia James (Mike) and brother, Timothy Downs; lifelong partner, Theresa Logan; children, stepdaughter, Ada Hamm (Allen) and stepson, Deven Hunter; granddaughter, Everly Wilkerson; lifelong friend, Kelly Allen; and many nieces and nephews. Thurman was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Lon Downs; children, son, Cody Downs, and daughter, Jennifer Downs Chalmers; and his beloved Billy Jack.
