Bobbie Robinson Obituary
Bobbie Jean Houston Robinson was called home to her Heavenly Father on February 25, 2025. She was born on September 23, 1936, in Memphis, TN, to her parents, Mary McDowell and Prince Houston. Bobbie spent her early years between Memphis and St. Louis, MO, where she gave her life to God at the age of 12. From that moment forward, she dedicated herself to growing in faith and teaching her family the importance of a relationship with God. Bobbie was married to Joseph Robinson who preceded her in death. She was a mother to five sons, Lawrence, Greg, Kevin, Russell, and Derris.
Bobbie's life beautifully embodied the Jamaican expression, "In little, there's much." She was called to serve, and she did so with grace and devotion. She was a faithful member of St. Peter Missionary Baptist Church for over 40 years, where she served as President of the Usher Board. She held many leadership positions, yet she is best known as Lady Chief Educator for the State Convention, Shelby County District and National Baptist Convention.
In addition to her church service, Bobbie worked in the restaurant business as a cook and entrepreneur. She later became a cherished member of the McDonnell family for many years; her bond with their family was just as strong as the one she shared with her own.
A woman of remarkable strength and grace, Bobbie devoted her life to her family, providing unwavering support, heartfelt guidance, and unconditional love. Bobbie's door was always open, offering a welcoming home and a heart full of love to those in need. Many family members found solace and guidance in her home on Doris Avenue, growing and maturing into the people they were meant to be. Her home was always a place of warmth, laughter, and the delicious aroma of her famous "fluffy" cornbread. Above all, she instilled in her family the importance of faith and a relationship with God.
Bobbie found joy in the simple pleasures of life-whether attending church events, sharing meals and family stories, or offering words of wisdom in times of need. She was a constant source of peace and joy to those around her. Traveling was one of her greatest joys; she often visited her sons in Oklahoma and Florida and enjoyed relaxing trips to the Caribbean and Italy with friends. Her legacy is one of love, wisdom, and kindness, leaving an enduring mark on all who knew her.
She is now reunited with her husband; her parents; her brother, Sylvester Lee; her sister, Evelyn Houston Daugherty; and her sons, Greg and Kevin Batts. While we grieve her absence, we take comfort in the memories she gifted us and the love she shared so freely.
Bobbie Jean Robinson is survived by her children: Lawrence Batts, Derris Batts, and Russell (Sharron) Batts, along with a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends.
