Jacqueline Capwell Obituary
She was born in St. Charles, Arkansas, and moved with her family to the Mississippi Delta as a young child. Jackie attended Louise High School and Delta State University, where she graduated in 1959. At Delta State, she met and married her college sweetheart, Jeff Capwell, and they were blessed to share over 65 years of marriage together.
Jackie was a passionate educator in her younger years in Clarksdale, Mississippi and Lake Charles, Louisiana before shifting her focus to support her husband as he pursued his career in the fundraising industry. Jackie and Jeff had a passion for travel. Their adventures took them to many corners of the world, enriching her life and the lives of those around her with stories and experiences from their journeys.
As an avid golfer, Jackie proudly held the title of Chickasaw Country Club 9-hole club champion. She cherished her weekly mahjong games with friends, finding joy in both competition and camaraderie. She also enjoyed the festivities of Carnival Memphis, serving as a Duchess in the Crew of Memphis. Jackie was preceded in death by her daughter, Elizabeth Capwell; parents, Queenie and Howard Webb; brothers, Harold Webb and Tommy McCoy; and sisters, Betty Hannah and Mary Shireman.
She is survived by her loving husband, Jeff Capwell; her son, Ross Capwell (Nora); five grandchildren, Jeff Capwell (Caitlin), Katie Howell (Ford), Ashley Stollberg (Brad), Kevin Umsted and Cara Foster (Aaron); 5 great-grandchildren; her brother, Howard Webb (Vickie) and sister, Diana Jenkins; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her immediate family, Jackie also leaves behind her cherished friend, Demetrius Wiggins, who was like a son to her for over 30 years.
The family would also like to extend thanks to the caregivers who assisted Jackie in her final days. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Delta State University, c/o Capwell Music Scholarship.
Services will be Monday, March 3rd at Christ Church with visitation at 10:30am and funeral service at 11:30am.
