Love you, Leroy...I’ll never forget our times together on this Earth. I always thought it would be a lot more. I enjoyed you being in the Marines every step of the way that you went...and the you went into Fallujah and there seemed to be no way out. You felt it and we did too! Man, how can it be 16 years already? We think of you all the time. I have tried my best to share your story with all who know us. I still think of all the fun we all had with your cousins growing up. Life sure has changed a lot since you've been gone.
Every Memorial Day we visit your grave. My husband and children know your story well. I know Heaven is so much better than this crazy world, and one day we will see each other again.

Hey Brother(in-law)! This is the first year I can actually say that! I know we never got to know each other, but we did get to meet briefly. I hope I am being a good husband to your sister and a good Dad to your niece. Something will always seem unfinished without your approval of me though.
I just wanted to tell you that I will take care of your amazing sister for as long as I have breath in my body, and try to be the best example of a man that I can be for your niece. Amy misses you everyday.
I put up a picture of you at our wedding, and I hope you were looking down at us smiling. As odd as this sounds, I miss you, and I never had a chance to know you. Your family and friends always tell me about you, but it's just not the same. Keep everyone up there laughing until we finally get a chance to meet.

So long and yet it seems like yesterday. I was a 2/1 Marine Mom with a son in the S-2 shop, H & S. These 2/1 Marines and their loved ones from that Fallujah deployment have been in my mind all month and particularly over Labor Day weekend. It was a trip back in time to my hometown, complete with fair and patriotic rodeo grand entry with a tribute to those who served. New to me was the sold out concert the night before, and everyone was talking about how the entertainer had sung a patriotic theme and then brought a group of Marines in dress blues up on stage to receive a large toys for tots contribution. The crowd gave the Marines a standing ovation and wouldn’t sit down. It was a good feeling to know that across the country similar celebrations of gratitude were happening. And despite the thrill of dress blues, we all know it’s the hot sweaty dirty guys out in the grit and sand in digital camos and desert boots that we are cheering for.
Then I came home and opened the e-mail forward with the u-tube video showing the signal motion for gratitude to our service men and women; hand over heart down to open hand, so natural and unobtrusive. Bless who ever came up with it.
So we remember these sons and their families and friends with gratitude and honor once again.

I was also in the fight for Fallujah, I was in 2/1's sister battalion 1/4. I remember when we got the word that someone from 2/1 was KIA, the first of Fallujah.. I had no idea it was another Houstonian. I never met Sandoval, but I didnt have to, anyone who fought in Fallujah will always be in my thoughs and prayers... Thank you Cpl Sandoval for your ultimate sacrifice i will eventually meet up with you at the big grinder in the sky!! until then...

I saw the name of Leroy on a bumper ribbon of a wonderful lady who has been in a Bible study group with me. I remembered his name and asked her connection to him. She was his grandmother. There is nothing that I can say or do to take away the pain or bring you peace in your time of sorrow, but I will offer your family my heart felt condolences. I just wann say R.I.P. to Leroy. Man, I barely knew you. I mean you were just getting to The unit during that CAX and I was on my way out to go to WFTBN. However u took the cot next to mine, and soon we were having some pretty interesting conversations. I remember u telling me about your sister or your extra-curricular activites. I also remember u reading your bible and telling me some verses to check out. I didn't get to go back to Iraq with u to Fallujah. So I never got to see the Marine u blossomed into.
