William Kenney Obituary
Dr. William Douglas Kenney (Doug) was born in Tupelo, Mississippi, on December 21, 1952. He peacefully went home to heaven on February 27, 2025, at the age of 72. He was the son of the late Max and Julia Kenney.
Doug graduated from Auburn University in 1977 with a Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine. He was well-regarded in the veterinary community for being a kind and knowledgeable doctor to both pets and their owners. Even after his retirement, he contributed to pioneering work in pet insurance through consulting, writing books, hosting podcasts, and writing his blog.
Doug was a dedicated and faithful member of Bellevue Baptist Church for over 40 years. He spent many years caring for babies in the nursery alongside his wife, Cindy. He devoted almost 30 years to the Firehouse Ministry, where he led Bible studies on Sunday mornings, and several years ago, was recognized with an honorary chaplain coat. Additionally, Doug volunteered with the prayer and 901 ministries, helping individuals navigate life's challenges and teaching them the life lessons he had learned. Doug's dedication to his faith and desire to know God more deeply continued until his passing.
He loved to play golf and passionately supported the Auburn Tigers (War Eagle!), particularly its football and basketball teams. He was a hard worker, a devoted husband, and a loving father and grandad. His subtle sense of humor, joyful attitude, gentle spirit, and kind smile will be greatly missed by everyone who knew him.
Doug is survived by his wife of 50 years, Cynthia Kenney; their children, Sarah, Jonathan (Jessica), Daniel, and Philip (Savannah); his grandchildren, Cooper, Colton, Caden, and Chase; his brother, Don (Rhonda); and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, March 7th, at the Pollard Chapel at Bellevue Baptist Church in Cordova, TN. Visitation for friends and loved ones will be held at 10 AM, followed by the service at 11 AM.
Doug's family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Missions Ministry at Bellevue Baptist Church or the Auburn University College of Veterinary Medicine.
