John Marshall Obituary

John Derek Marshall was born on July 23, 1959 in Memphis, Tennessee. He had a larger-than-life personality as he stood 6 foot 7.

In his early years, he was a local DJ and was fondly referred to as "Too Tall" on the radio. He then followed in his father's footsteps in the printing business and had a successful 25 years at Murdock Printing. Later in life, he decided to bet on himself and became a bonds salesman at Carty and Company and even received the Rookie of the Year award.

He was a passionate supporter of the Memphis Tigers and supported them in every sport. Especially football. GTG!

Many will remember Derek from his days of portraying the Kentucky Fried Chicken Colonel for Halloween, his many years of participating in the Germantown charity horse show, and his fantastic sense of humor.

He was predeceased by his parents, Mr. Ben and Carolyn Marshall. He leaves his cherished wife and caregiver of many years, Lese Weaver Marshall and stepdaughters Lele Wright Redmont (Mason) and Meg Wright Stricklin (Garret), he leaves his beloved sister Brenda Marshall Taylor (Greg) and niece and nephews Gracie and Harrison. Derek leaves many friends and colleagues. He also leaves his trusty companion dog Daisy.

Lese, I am so sorry. I pray that The Lord wrap his comforting arms around you, during this time. Grief can show up in the oddest places at the oddest times - be vigilant and sit with those uncomfortable emotions- rely on God! Always.
