Peggy Spencer Obituary

Peggy Lou Spencer, age 85, of Paducah, Kentucky, and formerly of Memphis, Tennessee, passed away on July 11, 2025.

She was born on August 5, 1939, in Piggott, Arkansas, to the late Violas and Nora Joiner. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Sue Ellen Burns and her husband, Robert Gray Spencer.

Peggy had a deep love for travel and adventure. Together with her beloved partner of 37 years, David Deese, she journeyed across nearly all 50 states, visiting national parks and lakes throughout the country. She especially enjoyed meeting new people along the way, always striking up conversations wherever she went.

Professionally, Peggy had a long and successful career as a legal secretary and as a court reporter typist. In her personal life, she was known for her spirited and competitive nature, especially when playing games or cards with her granddaughter, whom she adored.

She is survived by her daughter, Pamela Spencer-Gartner (Mark); her cherished granddaughter, Miranda Gartner; her devoted partner, David Deese; her nephews Jim Burns (Kelley Pezzella) and John Burns (Lisa); and niece Angie Mills (Brad).

A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, July 16, at Memphis Memory Gardens, 6444 Raleigh Lagrange Road, Memphis, Tennessee.
