Fannie West Obituary
With heavy hearts, we announce that Fannie Mae West peacefully joined our Lord and Savior on Friday, June 13, 2025, at the age of 98.
Born in Memphis, Tennessee, Fannie lived a rich and adventurous life that spanned nearly a century. In her vibrant younger years, she embraced the excitement of nightlife and social activities. After graduating from LeMoyne College, she dedicated herself to shaping young minds as a beloved elementary school teacher at Melrose Elementary School.
It was at Melrose where fate introduced her to the love of her life, Dorsey West, who taught woodworking at the same school. Their love story blossomed within the halls where they both served their community. Fannie also shared her passion for education at Stafford Elementary School in Memphis.
Following the passing of her beloved husband Dorsey, Fannie demonstrated remarkable resilience and determination. She pursued and completed her Master's degree in Education at Mississippi College for Women, proving that it's never too late to achieve one's dreams.
Her adventurous spirit led her to an exciting second career as an inspector for Holiday Inn, where she traveled extensively throughout the United States and internationally, ensuring quality standards across the hotel chain. This role allowed her to combine her love of travel with her meticulous attention to detail.
Fannie will be fondly remembered for her unwavering tenacity, her indomitable spirit, and her deep commitment to Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated. Her strength and determination inspired all who knew her.
