BARBARA M. ENSELEK
NORTHAMPTON, MA - Barbara M. Enselek, age 91 of Northampton, MA, passed away peacefully after a short illness on July 28th, 2025 at The Center For Extended Care at Amherst. She was born in Northampton on December 30,1933 the eldest child of the late Louis and Lillian (Rogers) Enselek. As a teenager, Barbara began working at Cooley Dickenson Hospital, where she went on to dedicate 45 years of service. She loved to walk, and weather permitting, made the daily journey on foot to and from the hospital from the family homestead on State Street. When Barbara retired she was honored as the hospital's longest serving active employee. Barbara enjoyed taking daily walks around town well into her 80's. Watching old Westerns and Hallmark movies were among her favorite pastimes, but her heart belonged to Elvis. A devoted fan, she loved everything Elvis and took great joy in his music and movies. Barbara looked forward to her birthday dinners each year, especially when chicken parmesan-her favorite-was on the menu. She cherished celebrating Christmas Eve with her family, a tradition filled with love, laughter and the comfort of being surrounded by those who meant the most to her. Barbara was predeceased by her loving brother Don Enselek of Forney, Texas in 2020 and sister-in-law Linn Enselek of Southampton in 2001. Barbara is survived by her siblings; Tom and Linda Enselek of Holyoke, MA., Louie and Donna Enselek of Southampton, MA., Phyllis and Bob McEneany of Vacaville, CA., Linda and Bruce Tilden of Rio Rica, AZ., Peter and Tawnya Enselek of Saint Albans, ME. and sister-in-law Tricia Enselek of Holladay, UT. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews, along with her devoted friend and caregiver, Heidi Matakanski. Barbara was a remarkable woman whose strength and spirit left a lasting impression on everyone who knew her. She faced life's challenges with a quiet determination and never allowed them to stand in the way of her independence. Barbara carved out a life that was uniquely her own, one built on resilience and courage. Her journey was not always easy, but she met it with grace and unwavering resolve. She was, in every sense, an inspiration. If you ever had the privilege of meeting Barbara, it wouldn't take long into the conversation before she told you she was a diabetic, most likely while sipping on a Diet Coke. Calling Hours will be Saturday August 2, 2025 from 9 to 10:30 am at the CZELUSNIAK FUNERAL HOME, followed by an In -House-Service at 10:30 am. Burial will be at St Mary's Cemetery in Northampton.
