Judith Avron
Contoocook, NH - Judith Louise Avron (Lupo), of Contoocook, NH, passed away on July 29, 2025, at the age of 78, remembered for a life filled with love, devotion, and service to others. Born on July 25, 1947, in Waltham, Massachusetts, to John Lupo and Bertha (Breault) Lupo, Judy's life was a testament to her unwavering commitment to her family, faith, and community.
Judy continues to be cherished by her beloved husband of 63 years, Gordon H. Avron, and their three children: Chip Gordon W. Avron and his wife Kate; Mark J. Avron and his wife Gretta Kristine Costello-Avron; and DeAnna Dawn "DeeDee" (Avron) Rice and her husband Chuck. She is also survived by her siblings, Linda (Lupo) Woods, Catherine (Lupo) Orifice, Barbara (Lupo) Martinez, and John "Jack" Lupo.
Judy's family was her greatest joy, known to all as "Nani" and she was blessed with eight grandchildren: Nicholas Rice, Stephanie Avron, Jessica (Rice) Greenlow, Michelle (Avron) Heath, Collin Delia, Chelsea Rose (Avron) Henggeler, Laura Leggiero, and Jake Costello. She was also delighted by her 9 great-grandchildren: Alyssa Heath, Paige Heeney, Alana Rose Heath, Keegan Heeney, Anderson Delia, Hunter Rice, Hayden Greenlow, Antheia Rose Rice, and Marlon Delia. Nani looked forward to "playtime" with her grandchildren and great grandchildren, often getting in the sandbox or down on the floor to play with baby dolls, blocks, cars or dinosaurs.
Judy was educated at Ecole Saint-Pierre French Catholic School, Waltham High School, and City College of San Francisco. She was proud to have supported her husband's active-duty Army career for nearly 30 years, embracing the challenges and opportunities that came with military life. Judy was a role model, a confidant, and supported countless younger Army wives. Together, ,they traveled to duty assignments in the United States, Italy, and Germany, and even after her husband's retirement, Judy's love of travel and adventure continued to take her to new and exciting places.
After her husband retired from the Army, Judy began working at the local telephone and cable company, TDS Telecommunications, to supplement their income and continue exploring the world, visiting nearly every country in Europe. She dedicated 22 years to the company, retiring in 2017. She was proud to have been able to maintain her independence and pursue her passion for travel, exploring, and experiencing the many cultures around the world, especially the food.
Judy was a tireless advocate for children, dedicating her time and energy to various youth associations, including CCD, Cub Scouts, Girl Scouts, CYO, AYA, and DYA. Her daily prayers always included children around the world, reflecting her deep compassion and concern for the well-being of all young people.
Her kitchen was the heart and soul of the house. Judy loved to cook for family and friends. There was always room for one more at the table. She had always dreamed of writing a cookbook. Not for the fame or recognition, but for her family. She imagined a simple collection of recipes, printed and bound together. Something she can pass down to her children and grandchildren as a keepsake of tradition, a tangible piece of the love she pours into every meal. That dream was realized in the month of her passing.
In her free time, Judy enjoyed playing games, going to a concert, and hosting tea parties as Lady Snodgrass, with her husband joining in as Sir Dukie. She was especially fond of spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who brought her immense joy and fulfillment.
Judy joins in eternal life with her father John Lupo, her mother Bertha (Breault) Lupo, and her sister "Betsy" Mary Beth (Lupo) Santiago Georges and her Rosi, her closest and dearest friend, Roseanna Bellant. Though she will be deeply missed by her family and friends, her legacy of love, kindness, and devotion will continue to live in, and inspire us all.
A Mass to honor her life will be held on Tuesday, August 5, 2025. Visitation will be held from 9:30 AM to 11:00 AM at St Theresa's Church, 158 Old W Hopkinton Rd, Henniker, NH 03242. A Mass will follow at 11:30 AM. Judith will be interred at NHSVC at a later date.
God gifted Judy with an abundance of love that she so willingly shared with everyone she met.
Rest in peace, dear Judy, Mom, Nani. Your love, generosity, and spirit will live on in your family and friends forever.
