Douglas Boyd Obituary

Douglas Andrew Boyd

Franklin, NH - Douglas Andrew Boyd, age 76, of Franklin, NH, passed away on July 27, 2025, at home with his wife by his side.

Born on January 19, 1949, in Concord, NH, Douglas dedicated his life to public service and the protection of others. He proudly served in the United States Marine Corps (Special Operations) from 1966-1972, where he exemplified courage, integrity, and commitment to duty, earning the MC Achievement Medal with Valor and a Purple Heart for his actions in Vietnam. As a Forced Recon Squad Leader specializing in Scout Dog Handling, he displayed unmatched physical endurance and mental resilience that set the foundation for his lifelong dedication to fitness and the communities he served.

After his military service, Douglas worked at The NH State Prison before beginning a distinguished career as a Trooper with the NH State Police in 1971, where he served for 10 years. In 1981, Douglas became the Chief of Police in Belmont, NH, where he served with honor for 7 years. During this time, he attended the 147th session of The FBI National Academy, graduating in the fall of 1986. His career in law enforcement culminated in his role as Chief of Police in Franklin, NH, a position he held until his retirement in 2001. Throughout his career, he was known for his innovative leadership, establishing programs like Franklin's first D.A.R.E. program, leading the creation of the Greater Franklin Crimeline and Neighborhood Watch (12 years), and securing the first Student Resource Officer grant. His leadership in establishing the Tink Nowell Scholarship Fund, securing in-car video cameras for cruisers, and leading efforts to build the city's new police station are just a few of the lasting legacies he leaves behind.

Beyond his professional accomplishments, Douglas was deeply passionate about bodybuilding and powerlifting. His journey in fitness began during his time in the military, where he recognized the importance of physical strength not just for performance but as a lifestyle. Douglas was a standout in the world of competitive powerlifting, winning several competitions and earning the title of "future posing champion" when he was featured in a bodybuilding magazine. His physique and work ethic inspired many, and he was well respected in the local fitness community as both a competitor and a mentor to aspiring lifters.

As a coach, Douglas made a positive impact on many local athletes, coaching Pop Warner football, Lassie League Softball, rec Basketball, and Women's League Softball. He believed in instilling not just skills but also values of teamwork, resilience, and leadership.

A true community leader, Douglas served on the City Council for 14 years, was a leader of the NH Police Standards and Training Council for 10 years and even after retiring, Douglas spent many years working at Benson Auto in Franklin, NH where he enjoyed selling cars and staying engaged in the community.

Douglas is remembered not only for his service in law enforcement and his contributions to his community but also for the strength of character and dedication he showed in all areas of his life. His integrity, compassion, and commitment to excellence left an everlasting mark on everyone who knew him. He is survived by his wife, Dale; children : Alicia (Recardo-husband) Segalini, Andrew (Emily-wife) Farina, Elizabeth (Mark-husband) Perry and Christopher (Hailey-girlfriend) Boyd; grandchildren : Morgan, Arienna, Anderson, Ryleigh, Brayden and Eric, along with nieces, nephews & cousins. He is predeceased by his parents, Anita & Hubert Boyd and his two brothers, Robert & David.
