GAIL FUNGAROLI GLAZIER
HADLEY, MA - Gail Fungaroli Glazier, a beloved member of the Hadley community, passed away peacefully on July 24, 2025, after a courageous battle with cancer. Born on October 13, 1952, in Northampton, she was the cherished only daughter of Joseph J. and Virginia (Parent) Fungaroli, both of whom predeceased her. She was also preceded in death by her brothers, Richard, James, and Joseph.
Gail was a proud graduate of the Northampton Public Schools, class of 1970, and continued her education at the Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts, where she majored in English and Theatre education. Her dedication to the arts shone through her participation in the summer stock theater with the Sturbridge and Northfield Players. An active member of Student Government, Gail served as secretary and delegate, and she was particularly proud to act in the inaugural student production of "Jesus Christ Superstar," which took her on a tour throughout the state.
After completing her student teaching at Hawley Junior High School, Gail took several teaching roles, including at John F. Kennedy Middle School and Hopkins Academy. She played a significant part in developing the Talented and Gifted pilot program at Greenfield Community College, and she coordinated summer and after - school programs for the Massachusetts Department of Education at JFK Middle School. Gail was committed to enhancing educational experience, presenting workshops on aligning curriculum's with MCAS requirements.
Throughout her remarkable 36 - year teaching career, Gail's passion for working with adolescents was evident. She cherished their vibrancy and enthusiasm and took delight in witnessing their growth. Gail's influence extended beyond the classroom as she coached the Northampton High School majorettes, coordinated three talent shows, and mentored over 30 interns pursuing teaching careers. Many of those interns became lifelong friends.
One of Gail's most treasured accomplishments was being the recipient of an endowment for the Humanities Program at the Mark Twain House and Museum, where she had the privilege of studying alongside the country's foremost Twain scholars.
A former President of the Northampton Teachers Association, Gail served on multiple committees at both local and state levels. Her dedication to public service was further demonstrated through her role as secretary for the Hadley Democrat Committee, where she actively participated in local, statewide, and national elections, often traveling with campaigns.
Gail was recognized with numerous awards and accolades throughout her lifetime, including being named to Who's Who Among Students in American Colleges and Universities for two consecutive years, as well as Who's Who Among America's Teachers. She received commendations from the Northampton City Council for initiatives like the Teacher for a Day program, which invited community members into classrooms to share their knowledge. A testament to the deep respect she garnered, her friend Dr. Thomas Boyle honored her by naming her a hybrid Christmas Cactus in her honor.
Gail leaves behind her soulmate and love of her life, Brian A. Glazier of Hadley. After 48 beautiful years together, Gail often expressed that the time they shared was not nearly enough. She is survived by her beloved sister -in - law, caregiver, and best friend, Donna Fungaroli, as well as her nephew Richard J. Fungaroli of Ocala, FL, along with his daughter, Chelsea Fungaroli of St. Petersburg, FL. Gail's heart also belonged to her goddaughter, and caregiver, Shelley Quinlan of Hadley, and her husband Kevin Quinlan, and their 3 children Riley, Maegan and Ryan. Additionally, she cherished her two step - grandchildren, McKayla Glazier and Nicholas Glazier, and her stepdaughter - in - law, Tracey Glazier of Northfield, MA, as well as many cousins and very special friends who provided unwavering support throughout her battle.
The family wishes to extend heartfelt gratitude to the oncology department at Mass General Cooley Dickinson Hospital, especially to Dr. Siddiqui and his staff, as well as to Dr. Jodka and Christine Martin for their extraordinary care.
