Susan Gusan Obituary

Susan Gusan

Northampton, MA - Susan Gusan, 72, of Northampton, passed away peacefully with her loving husband and children at her side on Saturday August 2, 2025, at their home. She was born in Springfield on April 17, 1953, to the late Harold and Irene (Lamoureux) Gauthier.

She grew up in Springfield's south end and was educated in Springfield, graduating from Cathedral High School, class of 1971. She then attended St. Anthelm College in Manchester, NH and received her bachelor's degree in nursing after she worked at Mercy Hospital in the maternity ward. After Mercy, she began teaching nursing at Smith Vocational School. That opened the door for her, and she accepted a position as an LPN instructor. She earned her BSN at Westfield State (WNEC) and received her professorship after she worked there until her retirement in 2012.

Susan enjoyed traveling the United States with her husband Steve, to San Antonio, TX, Myrtle Beach, Dunham, NC, St. Augustine, FL, Tennessee, and Maine's coastal towns just to name a few. Sue was an avid gardener, adored ALL dogs, and was extremely passionate about nursing. She consistently prioritized the needs of her children, ensuring their timely arrival for work, attending each of their sporting events, providing support from the stands, and simultaneously fulfilling her responsibilities as an educator by grading student papers. Sue will be sadly missed by all who knew her.

She is survived by her devoted and loving husband of 22 years, Stephen Gusan of Northampton, her sons, Kenneth Childs of Durham, NC, Daniel Childs and his significant other, Mary Linton both of Chicopee, her step daughters, Stephanie Duclos of Greenfield, Michelle Glabach of Jacksonville, FL, her sister, Carole Gauthier and her companion Richard Bernard both of Belchertown, sister in law, Be Gauthier of Tamworth, NH, 6 step grandchildren, 3 step great grandchildren, several nieces, nephews, and her furry companions, Chelsea and Molly.

Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her brother Eugene Gauthier.

Calling hours will be Friday August 8, 2025, from 5-7 PM at the DROZDAL FUNERAL HOME, 120 DAMON RD., NORTHAMPTON. Funeral will be Saturday August 9, 2025, from 10 AM – 11 AM in the funeral home followed by a Funeral Mass at 11:30 AM at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish, 99 King St., Northampton. Burial will be private and at the convenience of the family in St. Micheal's Cemetery in Springfield.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to Dakin Humane Society, 171 Union St., Springfield, MA 01105.
