Jim was such a good man, husband, father and a friend to all. I have known him, Denise and his family for over 40 years. He was an accomplished man in so many ways as well as a respected public figure. He always had a smile and was kind to everyone. He is already missed by everyone who met him.

For Jim
The River Runner
To be in the roar of the river,
In the bound down swirl of bouldered spume and froth
Only the one audible roar, the river
Bounding down.
This.
The boat boom around pillowed rock to rock
Behind where rest before the peal
Leaning on paddled pivot into the misted chaos
Of another and another and another
Bounding down.
This.
Rest for a breath to calm the rush of
Heart pounding in one moment of bliss
This.
Bounding down.
For Jim

I spent many a day and some nights in the second-floor conference room, during the many years of working at the "CITY". Jim was the smartest numbers guys I've ever known. Though sometimes we didn't agree, I always felt we were trying to the best for our city.
In later years I had the pleasure of coach his son in hockey and found his devotion to his kids the same as his devotion to the city.
Denise and the kids my deepest sympathy and prayers for your loss. Jim was one of the good guys and will be missed by all who knew and worked with him. Rest in peace my friend.

I´ll never forget the night Jim saved my life and my 1986 Saab 900.
Alfred and I were up to no good in a blizzard. We were stuck at the bottom of the hill behind CHS.
Al reluctantly called his dad, who immediately walked down the hill to rescue us.
Jim took the wheel of my car and went from 1st to 5th gear in a matter of seconds.
I had never seen that Saab so alive. She took flight up that hill like a boss, whistling like a Boeing jet taking off.
Al and I trekked up the hill, as Jim said we would be dead weight in the car.
Jim and Denise let me spend the night, made me feel at home, and I had never felt more safe and grateful (just like my own parents make me feel).
Jim, I have absolutely no doubt you lived your life to its fullest potential. You loved your family and your adventures in a way that is envied by so many.
I know you are watching and caring for everyone from the stars.

Denise and family,
I am extremely saddened by this news. I worked with Jim at the City of Concord. I have such high admiration for Jim -he was a smart man who was funny, easy to talk and get along with, treated people with respect, and most importantly made you feel like you were important in this giant cog-wheel here at the city. He was one of a kind.
I hope that someday all these stories will bring smiles because I know there are many happy stories that just haven't been told yet.
Deepest sympathies.

Denise, Janis, and the rest of the extended Family:
I am very sorry for your loss. Jim was 8 years older than me, but I remember him being part of the many trips we made from CT to North Haledon, NJ. As cousins, we interacted many times in my earliest years -- until he became a teenager and "too cool" to be around the "babies"! My Father "Mickey" (he was 14 years older), would take Jimmy for a ride in his car IF Jimmy helped him wash-and-wax it. While my father was in the Navy, he would come home to visit his Uncle Roy, Aunt Pearl and Jimmy and would try to bring something for his cousin from any one of his ports of call in the Mediterranean Sea or Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. I will try to make this Celebration of Life - but, in honor of the toll all forms of Dementia have taken on this family, I am a study participant at Yale University for Alz Disease Research and have a screening mid-day so it will largely depend on weather and the time I'm done with my testing. I've been a test participant for about 7 years and do it for those family members who have suffered with any form of Dementia with the hope that this becomes treatable to generations in the future. I will be there in spirit if I'm not able to be there in person and hope I can be whenever the NJ event happens.
Love to my extended family!

With heartfelt sympathy to all the Howards. Knowing Jim first through the City, then as a supportive parent to his kids athletic endeavors. He was an honest, thoughtful man that I admired.

Condolences to Jim's family. He was such a kind and memorable person. I had the fortune of working with him on his tax returns and enjoyed our conversations.

Jim was my boss when I worked in the Finance Dept. at the City of Concord. He once told me to never be afraid to ask questions, which I will always remember. My condolences to Denise & family. RIP Jim.

I think of Jim every time I kayak. Though not as accomplished as Jim, it was he who taught me to kayak - on the dock at Sally´s Gut on Lake Winnepesaukee. Then, I got to advance to the water, where I was taught the basic paddling skills. He taught me to use an off-set paddle, which I have rarely seen someone use. I will surely miss you, Jim. With Love from your Sangerville/East Concord friend.Goodbye, Jim
