HELEN A. MAGDYCZ

Hatfield, MA - Helen A. (Michalowski) Magdycz, 95, a lifelong resident of Hatfield, entered into eternal rest on Thursday, November 20th at the Center for Extended Care at Amherst.

She was born in Hatfield on January 12, 1930, a daughter of the late John and Emeilla (Zaleska) Michalowski. Helen attended Hatfield Public Schools and graduated from Smith Academy in 1947. During high school and after graduating, she worked at Terry's as a Soda Jerk. Helen attended Polka dances at the Hatfield Barn, where she met her husband, Raymond Magdycz. They married in 1950, and farmed tobacco and cucumbers, along with raising four children. After raising her children, Helen worked at Smith College as a housekeeper and retired in 2003 after 22 years of service.

She enjoyed the Monday Night Pitch League at the Hatfield Legion, watching Polka Time with Ed Targonski, and taking trips to Mohegan Sun Casino with her son, Raymond. Helen was an avid basketball fan and enjoyed watching the Boston Celtics, UMASS, and UCONN teams. She also enjoyed the Boston Red Sox. Helen enjoyed spending time with her family, and one of her favorite times was taking a cruise to Bermuda.

Helen was predeceased by her loving husband of 52 years, Raymond I. Magdycz Sr.; a son, Richard J. Magdycz; two brothers, Stanley and Edward Michalowski; and a sister, Jennie Frost.

She is survived by her devoted children, Raymond I. Magdycz Jr. (Terry) of Hatfield, Kenneth K. Magdycz (Darlene) of Plainfield, Lynn M. Grondin (Roger) of Hatfield, and a daughter-in-law, Christine M. Magdycz of Westfield. Helen is also survived by her cherished grandchildren, Christopher (Sonya), Michelle (Joshua), Kristin (Kevin), Alyssa (Steven), Sheryl, Lauren (Dylan), Karl, and Roger Jr.; eight adored great-grandchildren; a sister, Tessie O'Neill; and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, November 29th, with a Liturgy of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of Grace Parish, 11 School St. (Please Meet Directly at Church), with Rites of Committal and burial to follow in Calvary Cemetery, Bridge St., both in Hatfield.

Helen's family will receive relatives and friends at the gathering on Friday, November 28th, from 4-6 p.m. at the Czelusniak Funeral Home, 173 North St., Northampton.
