Beverly B. Balch

Hanover, NH - Beverly Breed Balch of Hanover, New Hampshire passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her family on December 10th, 2025, after a 22-month battle with glioblastoma.

Beverly was born on December 17th, 1959, in Billings, Montana to Charlie and Marilyn Breed. She moved to Hanover at age 5, where she spent the rest of her life. She was married to Jeffery Balch, also of Hanover, on June 25th, 1983. They had two children together, Mikayla and Betsy.

Beverly will be remembered as a kind and caring person who always sought to make others feel happy and welcomed. She loved being with her family on their farm in Etna and at her cottage in Harpswell, Maine where she spent many childhood summers.

Beverly volunteered in the Hanover school system for several years before becoming a full-time educator. She also helped her husband with their business, J&B Plumbing, and worked at Dartmouth Hitchcock. She was a graduate of Hanover High School in 1978 and the University of New Hampshire in 1982.

She was predeceased by her father Charlie and her brother Alan. She is survived by her husband Jeff, their two children, her mother Marilyn, and her sister Debbie.

Family and friends are invited to Beverly's visiting hours at the Ricker Funeral Home in Lebanon on Friday, December 19th from 5 to 7 pm. A memorial service will be held at the Etna church on Saturday, December 20th at 2pm. Dear Jeff, Marilyn, Debbie, Mikayla & Betsy - Bev was my first real "crush," when I was probably 11 or 12. That was when the Showell and Breed kids were thick as thieves on Sheep Island. I used to sit with her on the front porch of the cottage on Sheep Island while she had her breakfast. I´d already eaten, but I couldn´t wait to see her. The kids used to play store together with a little plywood storefront Charlie and Marilyn rigged up. Those were idyllic days from my youth that won´t be forgotten.

Bev had a magical smile and was unfailingly kind. Truly a friend to all. You could tell even back then that she was a special person. I weep as I write this. The world is truly worse off without her. She will be sorely missed by many.

Dear Jeff, Mikayla and Betsy, I am so very sorry to hear this devastating news. Beverly was one of the kindest people I've ever met. We first met when Betsy and Logan were taking gymnastics in Norwich--when they were 4! Her smile was simply transcendent. May her memory be a blessing. I first met Beverly around 2005 when she was in a pivotal life moment. At that time, she became an incredible addition to the Ray School special education team. For the next 15 plus years, Beverly kept our department ship legally afloat with her clerical strengths. She dismissed our encouragement to get fully certified, being a humble one, but really she was that good. She pursued specialized literacy training that made her even more invaluable, as she stretched our intervention capacity with her exceptional teaching of students. Your energy, humor and "let's get it done" approach are missed. All the best to family.
