Clarke Kidder Obituary

Clarke L. Kidder

Contoocook, NH - After a brief illness, Clarke L. Kidder passed away on December 16, 2025. He was born (September 21, 1943) in Upstate New York, which is where he met his wife of 61 years, Judith A. (Flood) Kidder. The couple moved to Contoocook in 1975.

For decades, Clarke was a telecommunications engineer at area companies, including TDS. He cherished his community, serving as a Hopkinton selectman and planning board member. He was also very active with his church, the Lions Club, the Boy Scouts, the Telephone Association of New England, and the Telephone Museum in Warner.

Sociable and quick to laugh (he loved a good pun), Clarke enjoyed history, technology, carpentry, photography (covered bridges were favorite subjects), and RVing. His father was a railroad man, so Clarke also had a lifelong passion for trains. He was ever willing to lend a hand, and all who knew him respected his integrity, intelligence, and dedication.

In addition to his wife, Clarke is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Laura M. Kidder and Denis T. Kingston; his son and daughter-in-law, Andrew C. and Kristina (Brierre) Kidder; and two grandchildren, Dean (19) and Paige (17) Kidder.

Services will be held at St. Andrew's Episcopal Church in Hopkinton at 10 am on Saturday, February 28.

Clarke´s and my long-time friendship started when we met at the age of 14. Donnie and Harry were also part of our small and active group. In addition to school activities, we spent time bowling and also going to town hall dances. Shortly after our high school graduation, where Clarke was Salutatorian, we lost contact until our 50th High School Reunion. Since then, we have enjoyed many, many hours in friendship with Clarke and Judy in person and on zoom. Clarke and Judy rented a next-door to us cottage on the St. Lawrence River where they kayaked, dined, and gabbed with us. My spouse Barbara and I will very miss our times with Clarke and Judy. I have worked with Clarke from the early 80's till when he retired. He always brightened my days working at CONTEL, MCT and TDS. Clarke was full of knowledge and great stories. He will certainly be missed. I pray for his wife Judy and family as this is a great loss to the family and community. God bless you all.

God speed to my Scouting friend and mentor. Clarke, you were always a calm voice of advice and counsel, and what a terrific sense of humor! Thanks for your friendship and guidance along my own journey. Thoughts and prayers are winging their way to your family .
