Joyce Dion Obituary
Sharon, VT - Joyce Richardson Dion, born March 29, 1951 of Sharon, VT passed away February 9, 2026 surrounded by her loved ones at Gifford Medical Center in Randolph, VT. She was the daughter of the late Raymond and Helen Richardson, of Southington, CT. She is survived by her husband, Robert T. Dion of Sharon, VT, son Noah Dion (Ashley) of Royalton, VT, and daughter, Rajana Dion of Sharon, VT.
Joyce enjoyed playing the piano and listening to classical music, sightseeing and traveling, wildlife and nature, especially being by the ocean. She was a loving mother and deeply believed in family. She received a Master's degree and was passionate about her work in early-childhood education; later as a mental health advocate, a president of UNAP local chapter 5051 from 2005-2016, and licensed clinical social worker. Joyce loved spending time with her family and children, dog "Shiloh", birdwatching, exploring and walking in the woods. She loved Vermont, after settling down in Sharon in 1984, Joyce knew she had found home. She believed in community, activism and conservation, and enjoyed music, sewing, knitting, and fiber arts.
She is dearly missed. A scholarship program at Camp Downer in Sharon, VT will be set up in her honor, with more information to follow. A celebration of life with a springtime memorial service will be arranged by immediate family.

I was so sorry to hear of Joyce's passing. We were Montessori colleagues and she was a dear mentor to me and to many young teachers in the Upper Valley. She was so gifted as a therapist and supported many children and families with so much skill and insight. I feel so privileged to have spent time with her. My heart goes out to her family and friends.

I´m so sorry to hear of Joyce´s passing. I loved her most for her work furthering the efforts of the mental health workers union. The world is better because of Joyce.

I met Joyce while being a counselor at camp Downer in the late 80s early 90s.
She was so great with her programs that she did during the summer there.

I was lucky to work with Joyce for a few short years at the beginning of my career. She was a kind and supportive colleague and a safe place for so many students. I was so sad to hear of her passing and send my condolences to her family. She was a wonderful woman.
