Frederick Higman Obituary

Frederick C. Higman

Pembroke, NH - Frederick C. Higman, January 22, 1942- February 13, 2026.

It is with great sadness that we share the passing of our father Fred due to a short illness, and a broken heart.

Fred was born in London, Ontario Canada, where he lived until his father's career with the Canadian Pacific Railroad transferred the family to Brownville Junction, Maine.

Following graduation from Brownville Junction High School, Fred enlisted in the United States Army at age 19. Two years later, Fred became an American citizen.

The Army sent him to Metz, France where he met the love of his life, our mother Sandra. A woman he always described as the most beautiful woman he had ever seen. Sandra was a Leading Airwoman in the Royal Canadian Air Force. They shared a love of Canada, French cuisine and culture. The two wed in Metz, France June 22, 1960.

Fred and Sandra were blessed with four children- Geoff, Chris, Anita and Sybil, each born in a different state due to military assignments.

During Fred's Army career, he served two years in Vietnam, he received many awards and promotions, including the Meritorious award. While serving he also obtained his Associate of Arts and Bachelor of Science degrees. Fred retired after 21 years of service with the ranking of Master Sergeant.

Military retirement brought them to New Hampshire, where Fred worked in management for Abundant Life, Capital Dodge, and Carlson's Motor Sales.

In his second retirement, Fred continued with his education, earning a Masters in Theology. Shortly thereafter, Fred and Sandra became missionaries, living in Accra, Ghana for 2 years. They met many friends and had a wonderful experience. They both had a strong faith and love for God.

Fred is predeceased by his loving wife Sandra in January 2024, whom he missed deeply.

He is survived by his son Geoffrey and Ronda Higman of Loudon. Their daughter Hillary and Aaron Garofalo and children Theo and Griffin Garofalo of Laconia. Their son Benjamin and Michelle Higman of Loudon. Their son Daniel and Emily Higman and children Daisy, and Henry Higman of Auburndale, Fl. Son Christopher Higman of Concord. Daughter Anita Higman of Manchester, her daughter Abigail Lynch and fiancé Gabe Young of Manchester. Daughter Sybil Higman Desilets and her husband Mike, their children Lillian Vezina and Jacob Desilets of Concord.

There will be a military honors burial at The New Hampshire Veterans Cemetery in June.

We are so thankful for the wonderful caring staff of Merrimack County Nursing Home, and the Granite VNA hospice. Our family wishes for any donations to be made to the Granite VNA hospice.

We were so sorry to hear of Fred´s passing. He was a kind man who deeply loved the Lord, missed Sandra greatly, and had an incredible lifetime of experiences he could retell with amazing clarity. It was because of him that we visited Grand Manan Island last year. We very much appreciated his company and will miss him. Our condolences to all the family.

Fred and Sandra were a part of my life for as long as I can remember. Two of my favorite people I have ever known - kind, FUNNY, smart, generous, and filled with love for each other, their family, and friends. I´m so blessed to have known them. My condolences to the family on the loss of Fred-we shared many many conversations about his career and his and Sandra´s love story, we sang in church together on many occasions, and I will always remember he and Sandra making a guest appearance for Veterans Day in my classroom-sharing their memorabilia with the children and helping us make cards. I´ll treasure my memories of them both.
