Brandon Hoyt Obituary

Brandon Victor Hoyt

Greenfield, MA - December 29, 2011 - March 9, 2026

Brandon was born to Regina & Sean Hoyt in 2011, and in 2014 they welcomed his sister, Joanna. Brandon was the most positive and loving person we have ever known. His nickname was Brightside Brandon, because no matter what, he would always find a way to see the good in any situation. He was always telling jokes and trying to make people laugh. He was such a sweet and thoughtful kid. Everyone who knew him loved him.

Reading was a passion of Brandon's. Some of his favorite book series were Percy Jackson, Big Nate, Diary of a Wimpy Kid, Lunch Lady, and many others. He loved to be comfy and was always the first one in his pajamas when we got home. A good day to Brandon was spent on the couch with a book, a blanket, and a bowl of Cheez-It's, or playing a game on his Switch with his sister, and whenever possible, Minecraft with Matthew.

Brandon loved spending time at home with his family, especially his sister Joanna, who he was so close to. He was a morning person, like his dad, and was often the first one up. Always had everything out and ready for the day before most people were awake. Ready to greet a new day with his endless optimism and joy. He was also very neat and organized, just like his mom. He had a place for everything, and liked everything to be in its place.

Grief is love. It is a continuation of the love we feel for someone when they are no longer here. If it is deep and gutting and painful, that shows how utterly you loved them. Somehow we will have to learn to live with this new painful kind of love for Brandon. Maybe someday we will be able to love him differently, with his brightness and joy again. We will try. We promise we will try our very best. Because if ever there was a person who was the embodiment of joy shining brightly it was you, Brandon. We love you and will miss you always.

Brandon leaves behind his heartbroken parents - Regina & Sean, and his devastated sister Joanna. His maternal grandparents - Donna and Robert & Laurie Shotwell. His paternal grandparents - Joanne and Victor & Vivien. His aunts - Caitlin and Kim, and his uncles - Colin and Eric. His cousins Avery, Oliver, and Clover, as well as his Maine family - David, Kelly, and Matthew Hirtle. As well as many more extended family members, teachers, classmates, and everyone in the Greenfield community who knew him and loved him.

A Gathering of Family and Friends will take place Monday, March 16 from 3:00 pm to 6:00 pm at the Smith-Kelleher Funeral Home, 87 Franklin St in Greenfield.
