My Precious Son, well it's been 14 yrs. since you left us. Not a breathe of mine goes by without you in it.
All of your Marine Brothers are at a 14 yr. reunion this weekend in Georgia, wish I could've went too...but bad timing...as I'll be going on the RFTW next month.
I know your buddies are having some toasts to all of you up in Heaven, over this weekend, and sharing lots of stories.
Yesterday was especially tough as the memories flood in from all over. The Love and support that has continued thru these yrs. has been amazing. You will Never Be Forgotten !!! For this I am Grateful !!!
You are Loved and missed beyond measure.
Dylan is doing fine, He's turned into such an outstanding young man, just like his Daddy. I Love you Son !!! Love Mommy

My Precious Son, yet another yr. goes by without you here, with us. Yesterday you had your Heavenly 32nd Birthday. I always sit and think of how your life would be, what you would be upto...you were taken from us way way too young. Visiting you yesterday, at your resting place, is no place a Mother wants to visit her Baby boy... it is so heart wrenching, I miss you so very much.
You share your Birthday with another American Hero, Medal of Honor Recipient, and Dear friend Richard Pittman. He always tells me, no your Travis is an American Hero. That makes me very Proud, of you. That you truly are..an American Hero..!!!
Now as we approach Memorial day ,just 3 days away.I Honor and Remember you with all my Heart, and Love.I hope I continue to make you Proud of me, as I will never ever let you be Forgotten. I was interviewed by channel 2 news on Tues. morning, it will air a few times over this weekend. I'am your voice, and carry your torch, to keep your Legacy alive.
I will be going to quite a few events over the next 3 days, all are to Honor you and all our Fallen Heroes.
Rest in Paradise my Precious Son ! I Love you with all my heart...

February 15, 2013

Hi Precious Travis, Today is Feb. 15, 2013. Valentines was yesterday, and truly the best part was the beautiful card your Mom sent to myself and everyone she loves. Travis, You are a Valentine for all times. I have been thinking of you and your MOM. I know that the holidays much less everyday your Mom has you in her thoughts and prayers. And I would say that maybe from time time, has a beautiful smile thinking of some of the silly things that happen when you were little. Geoff is in School and is suppose to graduate next month, I am telling you this because sweetheart you are in his thought and are with him with each day that comes. To tell you the truth he is struggling very much now, because some of the traning that they are getting has to do with Iraq. My heart is so heavy for him, because it is still very real to him. Travis I would like to ask a favor of you. Please stay around him and look out for him for me. You see your Mom and Myself love our children so very much. There just is not a stronger emotion than a Mothers love. Remember, too Travis keep close to your Mom for she is so loved as are you. With love and respect. I will write you soon. Love Sharon

Dianne Layfield

January 2, 2013

My Son, Holidays are always the hardest to get thru, without you here with all of us.The empty chair, rips at my heart, I can't stand it. I hide behind a smile, yet truly wanting to scream, and cry, and hold you in my arms. It's already 2013', so hard to believe.
"Your Smile " Though your smile is gone forever, and your hand I cannot touch, I still have many memories of the one I Loved so much. Your Memory is my Keepsake, with which I'll never part. God has you in his keeping, I have you in my Heart.
Sadly missed, but Never Forgotten.
I Love you my Precious, wonderful Son ! Love Mommy

My Precious Son, God how I miss you, its so very painful, it can't be explained, only felt. All I can do is think about all the times we shared, through the very short 19 yrs. you had here on earth with us.One that really sticks, is when you came home from Boot-Camp, and I was laying in on my bed one night, and you came and laid by me, and we watched a video, they made of all of you in Boot Camp training. You were in alot of the pictures. I said oh my God, did you really have to do all of that horrible stuff for training. You shook your head and held my hand, yes Mommy I did. Little did we know what was ahead, cause if we did, I'd of never moved from that very spot.Teir are so very many of us, in this horrific pain, and tears today, my Heart goes out to all of these families, as well. It hasn't stopped raining for 7 long yrs. now. yet it seems as just yesterday,my Son. When you all took your Final Post.
I Love and Miss you my Baby. Mommy

To the family of Lance Cpl. Travis J. Layfield:

Please know that just as your loved one remains in your hearts and minds; his sacrifice, and that of your family, remains with the people he died defending. Words cannot express the gratitude we feel for his bravery and selflessness, or the heartache we feel for your loss. God bless and keep you always.

For Travis; from the Navy Hymn:
Eternal father, grant we pray,
to all Marines, both night and day,
the courage, honor, strength and skill
their land to serve, thy law fulfill;
be thou the shield forever more
from every peril to the Corps.

Travis,

My wife, son and I had the honor to meet your mother a couple of weeks ago at the 8th and I Barracks for the Evening Parade. We were inspired by your mom and the pride that she displayed as she introduced us to you. She is so strong. Thank you for your service and sacrifice.

To my dearest family, some things I'd like to say...
but first of all, to let you know, that I arrived okay.
I'm writing this from heaven. Here I dwell with God above.
Here, there's no more tears of sadness; here is just eternal love.

Please do not be unhappy just because I'm out of sight.
Remember that I'm with you every morning, noon and night.
That day I had to leave you when my life on earth was through,
God picked me up and hugged me and He said, "I welcome you."

It's good to have you back again; you were missed while you were gone.
As for your dearest family, they'll be here later on.
I need you here badly; you're part of my plan.
There's so much that we have to do, to help our mortal man.

God gave me a list of things, that he wished for me to do.
And foremost on the list, was to watch and care for you.
And when you lie in bed at night, the day's chores put to flight.
God and I are closest to you....in the middle of the night.

When you think of my life on earth, and all those loving years
because you are only human, they are bound to bring you tears.
But do not be afraid to cry; it does relieve the pain.
Remember there would be no flowers, unless there was some rain.

I wish that I could tell you all that God has planned.
But if I were to tell you, you wouldn't understand.
But one thing is for certain, though my life on earth is o'er.
I'm closer to you now, than I ever was before.

There are many rocky roads ahead of you and many hills to climb;
but together we can do it by taking one day at a time.
It was always my philosophy and I'd like it for you too...
that as you give unto the world, the world will give to you.

If you can help somebody who's in sorrow and pain,
then you can say to God at night......"My day was not in vain."
And now I am contented....that my life has been worthwhile,
knowing as I passed along the way, I made somebody smile.

So if you meet somebody who is sad and feeling low,
just lend a hand to pick him up, as on your way you go.
When you're walking down the street, and you've got me on your mind;
I'm walking in your footsteps only half a step behind.

And when it's time for you to go.... from that body to be free,
remember you're not going.....you're coming here to me.
