To the family of SSG George Rentschler: I served with George in Iraq and was one of his Mechanics that worked on his Tank. I remember he would alway's have problems with his and would come to see us to have a look at it. I would always's give him a hard time but never turned down a chance to help him. I remember it was a week or so before his passing, we were working on his Tank and he was upset that it broke again, it was around the holiday's. Anyway he felt so bad that we had to work on his tank again that he offered all of us cookies he had recived from a care package from home. Thats the kinda guy his was, he cared about people enough to try to cheer us up during a rough time. I miss him and the times we spent together in Iraq, I'll never forget him!!

To SSG Rentschler's family: I want you to know he hasn't been forgotten. I have the date written on my calendar and I can remember how I felt when I saw his picture on TV saying he was no longer with us. He served his country with pride and was so proud to be a member of the US Army. I worked with SSG Rentschler during his time at Fort Knox, KY and know he enjoyed being a Soldier. Sorry for your loss, and I am proud to have known George.

Hello, First of all let me say how sad I felt when I learned of his passing. Unfortuntely I only knew him for a short time. I met George while in Iraq. I was also a member of B 1/35 Armor. He was the type of person who could bring a smile to anyone at anytime. I know he is missed greatly.

I worked on the tank of SSG Rentschler in Iraq on numerous occasions and he was a very positive NCO , he spoke of some day becoming a teacher and retiring from the military , he has inspired me and many ways and there is not a day that goes that I dont think of him and the times that we spent in together while deployed , thanks for your conversations

To the family and friends of George.
Holding you all in my thoughts and prayers today.
The Wind on The Downs
“I like to think of you as brown and tall,
As strong and living as you used to be,
In khaki tunic, Sam Brown belt and all,
And standing there and laughing down at me.
Because they tell me, dear, that you are dead,
Because I can no longer see your face,
You have not died, it is not true, instead
You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe;
I hear you laughing as you used to do,
Yet loving all the things I think of you;
And knowing you are happy, should I grieve?
You follow and are watchful where I go.”
(Written by Marian Allen during World War l )
Two lines that I wish you to keep near your heart…….
“You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe”
I did not know George, but he is my hero.

To the Family,
Hello, I realize its been a few years now, but George Rentschler isn’t an easy man to forget.
My name is Daniel Porterfield. I served with George in Friedburg Germany and was in the S-3 with him during his deployment to Bosnia, he was the driver for the Command Sgt. Major at the time and I drove the S-3 Major, we spent a lot of time together and became good friends. I remember one night in Bosnia in particular, we had been there almost a month, my daughter had been born only five days before we departed, anyway I was feeling a little down, and here comes George…. It took him two lame jokes and a punch on my shoulder and we were both laughing and all my issues seemed to be no different from his… I knew then I wasn’t alone. Your Dad, Husband , Son… all the things George was, are now a memory, a memory that will be carried in the hearts of all those he has effected during his life, he was a great man, and even a better friend, I drove across three states in June of 2004 to visit George’s grave in Sturgis, Ky. Before departing for Europe yet once again… and on that day I made him the promise that he would not be forgotten…. And trust me… he’s not.
Daniel Porterfield.

I just discovered that there was a Guest Book to sign for SSG Rentschler. I worked with George at the NCO Academy at Fort Knox, KY before he left for Germany. So far the Academy has lost four dedicated Soldiers while serving our country in Iraq. Four exceptionally good men that any mother would have been proud to call her son. George wanted to be a KY Colonel and I am happy I was able to make this happen for him. I am sad that I didn't do this until after he was gone. But, in life, we always think we have more time. When he departed the Academy I didn't realize that would be the last time I would get to speak with him or see his smiling face. I miss SSG Rentschler....George. He was a dedicated Soldier and loved the military and his family. He loved coaching and spoke of 'his children' quite often. I am grateful to have known him for the period of time he was here at the Academy. God Bless you both, and I want you to know SSG Rentschler will always be remembered.

I don't pretend to know what to say or do that would bring you peace in your time of sorrow, but I will offer my heart felt condolences. I also offer you my prayers that in time the pain will easy and the memories of your HERO will carry you through each day and night. I want to thank your HERO, for his/her selfless act of becoming a member of the armed forces, his/her willingness to defend the United States of America, all that we hold sacred and for the sacrifice that will forever be etched in the memories of all those who knew him/her. Though tears can never bring him/her back, we hope that our tears express our gratitude for the sacrifice that he/she made and our sorrow at his/her passing. I believe for every fallen HERO there is a star shining brightly up above to remind us of the precious gift we were given.
Your mission on earth is complete and you are now a member of GOD’s Heavenly armed forces. Stand down brave warrior and take your rightful place in Heaven with all the HEROES who have passed before.
I made a special promise to LE RON A. WILSON (KIA on 07/06/07) on the day he was laid to rest as I touched his coffin, that I would never forget him nor would I forget those that gave their lives for our country before him, with him and after him and so when I came across www.legacy.com, I thought what a great way to keep my promise to Le Ron, so I will continue to leave tributes in each guest book until the day there is no longer the need to leave these tributes to a FALLEN HERO.
REST IN PEACE, HERO, YOU WILL NEVER BE FORGOTTEN!!

Dear Family of George Rentschler,
This message is to let you know that you all are in my thoughts and prayers.
I recieved a bracelet with George's name, his hometown and his date of death on it.
I realize it has been just 2 years since you've lost your loved one. I wear my bracelet every day in honor of George. Please know that you and all of our military members are prayed for and supported for their efforts by my family and myself each and every day. Thank you so very much for giving us our freedom!
I also have 2 sons. They are 14 and 12 years old and they have a wonderful dad. I hope life is getting somewhat easier for you all and that you will always have great memories of your George.

My son served in Iraq with your son. George was one of a few that he was close to during his time there. He spoke so highly of him and was so enjoying getting to know him. He spoke of George several times when he called me from Iraq and that they had shared some good times and had so much in common. I think of your son every day and pray for his family. I have his name posted on my prayer list and I know you must be so proud of him and miss him terribly. My family thanks him for his fine service and his ultimate sacrifice.

Scott,
I first met your father as I couched you in soccer in butzbach Ge. He and I became very good friends even though he was in the Army and I was in the Air Force (one of my faults). We had lost touch over the years as do a lot of people in the military. I remember your father fondly as does my whole family. I remember how he would make us (the whole group) laugh. I feel less for the loss but please take comfort knowing that your father was a good man and will be remembered in the hearts of many. Take care Scott and keep your chin up for god is with you in this time of need.

Your Dad always made people laugh and I will miss him. You came to our house sometimes. I remember how smart and sweet you are. Please know you are in my thoughts and prayers.

Being part of the "Army family" is a strange and wonderful experience. It's something that words can't quite capture. I don't have to know a soldier to grieve the loss of his life. I never knew this man, or his family. But we shared alot of common ground...I'm also from Southern Louisville. My husband and I are both graduates of Male High School. Louisville will always be home. We are endeared to Fort Knox as well, as our children were born there. I've never seen this man's face, but I feel like I lost a friend.
SSGT Rentschler's passing, especially in the defense of this nation, is humbling and heartbreaking all at once. To his family, please know without any doubt that his service will forever be invaluable, that your sacrifice is something that we know we can never repay and we are deeply and humbly grateful for it. He will be remembered...even by some of us who merely knew his name...
Praying that you are comforted by the love and grace of Jesus, your family and friends.
With profound sympathy and deepest respect,
Miranda Grim
