Dr. Curtis L. Rentschler, age 94, of Joliet, Illinois, passed away peacefully at home on October 10, 2025.
He was born on November 10, 1930, in West Lawn, Pennsylvania, to Chester O. and Mildred S. (Conrad) Rentschler.
Curtis grew up in West Lawn and was an avid student of nature. During his youth, he was an active member of the Mengel Natural History Society of Berks County.
He attended Albright College, graduating in 1952, and earned his medical degree from Temple University in June 1956. After serving as a Captain in the U.S. Air Force and completing residencies in Internal Medicine and Orthopedic Surgery, he enjoyed a long and fulfilling career as a board-certified orthopedic surgeon, caring for countless patients in the Will County area. Dr. Rentschler was active in the interprofessional society AII and the Will-Grundy Medical Society. In addition to his medical contributions, he volunteered with Boy Scouts of America Troop 93, where he was honored with induction into the Order of the Arrow as an adult.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 55 years, Georgia Rentschler; daughter Catherine Rentschler (Brian) Duggan; sons John (Patti) Bowlin, Mark Killman, and Wendy Aly Angulo. He is also survived by grandchildren Matthew (Kristy), Keri (Deke), Benjamin (Ellie), and Anna Duggan; Eric, Alyssa, and Lauren Bowlin; Kambrie (Louis Cram) and Alex (Aleya) Balser; as well as seven great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Chester O. and Mildred S. (Conrad) Rentschler, and his beloved aunt, Catherine Conrad.
The family has entrusted arrangements to Carlson Holmquist-Sayles Funeral Home. Burial will take place at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery November 3 at 12 noon.
The family extends heartfelt thanks to the staff of Integrity Senior Care and Residential Hospice for their compassionate and professional care during his brief illness.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to a charity of your choice or to Temple University School of Medicine, where Dr. Rentschler (Class of 1956) and his granddaughter Keri (Class of 2025) both graduated.
