James Rentschler Obituary

James Jacob Rentschler, 74, of Muhlenberg Township, died July 17, 2025 at Strausstown Rod and Gun Club, where he had been a director for many years. He was the husband of Patricia Lee (Pugliese) Rentschler and a step-father to Michael Q. Martin Pugliese. Born December 22, 1950, in West Reading, PA, he was a son of the late Martin N., and Esther M. (Werner) Rentschler. Jim worked for Peter T. Pugliese, M.D. for over 30 years. He last worked as the head production batcher at Circadia by Dr. Pugliese, Leesport; Hawkeye-Jensen, Shartlesville; and A.S.T., Inc., Bernville, where he was responsible for the design and engineering for production facilities. He was a former owner of Rentschler Gulf Station, Laureldale and was a master mechanic until 1983. Jim was a skilled antique buyer, enjoying the restoration side of antiques, including firearms. He was a very active member of the Strausstown Rod and Gun Club, where he served in every capacity. Jim was also a life member of the National Rifle Association and was a skilled marksman. He was a 1969 graduate of Reading High School. James is also survived by two siblings: Audrey L. Rentschler Waldman, widow of William B. Waldman of Doylestown; and Rodney M., husband of Carol A. (Seidel) Rentschler of Palmyra. He was predeceased by a sister, Nancy W. Swan (1936-1992). Other survivors include his brother-in-law, Bruce C., husband of Julia Swan of Bethlehem and nephew, Robert B., husband of Shari Swan and three nieces: Winifred L. Swan, Megan E. Rentschler, and Hilary C. Rentschler. Viewings will be held Friday, July 25th, 6:00 – 8:00 pm and Saturday, July 26th, 9:00 – 10:00 am in Stitzel Family Funeral Homes & Crematory, Inc., 3300 Kutztown Road, Laureldale. A service will be held Saturday at 10:00 am in the funeral home with burial to follow in Epler's Cemetery, Bern Township.
