Betty Hammitt Obituary
Born to the late William Phelps and Imogene Hutchison on May 9, 1943, Betty lived a life dedicated to her family and friends. She shared her love through cooking and baking. In her younger years, Betty devoted time as a clerk for the Village of Channahon and as a Girl Scout Leader. Betty's warmth, kindness, and quiet strength will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Gary D. Hammitt, and her daughter, Lois A. Clements. She is lovingly remembered by her sons, G. Scott (Barb) Hammitt of Coal City, Illinois, and Jeffrey T. (Sherry) Hammitt of Inverness, Florida; grandchildren Ryan (Ashly) Hammitt, Breann (Ryan) Cumming, Jessica (Gary) Stearns, and Danielle (Tom) Sanocki; and five cherished great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. on Friday, October 10, 2025, at Carlson Holmquist-Sayles Funeral Home, followed by a funeral service at 12:00 p.m. Interment will take place immediately afterward at Woodlawn Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to Lightways Hospice or a charity of your choice.
