I remember Vincent as a small boy-my mother was his sitter. I am so proud to have known him. Even as a child, he cared more for the welfare of others. He was so sweet. The world lost a brave and caring man, but gained an angel.

While I was scanning the list of names of our NJ Warriors, I noticed a young Marine from Chatham, NJ. My wife and I are graduates of CTHS. While I realize it has been a number of years since LCpl Vincent M. Sullivan made the ultimate sacrifice, please accept our belated condolences, and know that no Marine, or any member of the Armed Forces will ever be forgotten in this family. Thank you....LCpl Sullivan.

In Memory of Vincent Michael ~ (Debra Estep)

July 23, 2008

Holding you all in my thoughts and prayers.

The Wind on The Downs

“I like to think of you as brown and tall,
As strong and living as you used to be,
In khaki tunic, Sam Brown belt and all,
And standing there and laughing down at me.
Because they tell me, dear, that you are dead,
Because I can no longer see your face,
You have not died, it is not true, instead
You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe;
I hear you laughing as you used to do,
Yet loving all the things I think of you;
And knowing you are happy, should I grieve?
You follow and are watchful where I go.”

(Written by Marian Allen during World War l )

Two lines that I wish you to keep near your heart…….

“You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe”

I did not know Vincent, but I am remembering
his service. He is my hero. !

The Other Side

i'm over on the other side
where life and death softly divide.
left my skin and bones behind
now i'm over on the other side.

can you feel me there with you?
my breath is gone but i'm not through.
loved you then and i still do
from over on the other side.

i can fly. really fly.
below the earth ... all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

it's good here on the other side.
the sweetest songs...the bluest skies.
thank you for the tears you cried
but it's good here on the other side.

i can fly. really fly. below the earth...all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side

the world is smaller than a needle's eye.
where life and death softly divide.
when you leave your skin and bones behind
i'll be waiting on the other side.

i can fly. really fly. below the earth ... all through the sky.
go tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

Today as I often do, I visited the graves of my mom and dad who are buried at the General Doyle cemetery in North Hanover Twp.. I tell them how much I miss them and thank them for all their efforts in raising me. My dad served in the army in World War II. Then, as I usually do I walked around in section 02 to examine some of the headstones. Most of the veterans buried at the Doyle cemetery lived a full life, having married and had children. Many are from the 2nd world war, Korea, and some from Viet Nam. Then very close to my parent's grave I came upon Vincent's marker. I had never seen it before. I noticed that it said Iraq, and having a marine son of our own doing his second tour in Iraq right now made me want to learn as much as possible about Vincent. As soon as I got home I did some research which brought me to this as well as other sites which helped to answer some of my questions. In the future, whenever
I vist my parent's graves, I will make it a point to visit Vincent's grave to thank him for his courage and sacrifice. I know my dad would be proud to share the same resting place with him.

With respect, Donald Leaman son of Rudolph Leaman USA, and father of Captain Ryan Leaman USMC

If this person can stand in battle to ensure my freedom, then I will stand in grief with his/her family to honor him/her. For every fallen HERO there is a bright star that shines in the evening sky to remind us of the cherished gift we were given – even if for too short a time.
My heart breaks again as I sign yet another guest book of another courageous young soldier who gave their life so selflessly. I wish I never found myself in a position to have to sign another guestbook for the rest of my life, but I promised Le Ron A. Wilson (a dear friend KIA 7/6/07, 18yrs old) that neither he nor any like him would be forgotten and so I will continue until the day there is no longer the need.

My son is a Navy Medic and served with the the 1st Battalion, 2nd Marine Regiment, 2nd Marine Expeditionary Brigade out of Camp Lejeune, N.C. in 2003.
(TASK FORCE TARAWA)

His Battalion was heavily attacked when it went into Nasiriyah, March 23, 2003. Eighteen men in his Battalion were killed on that fateful day, and many more were wounded.

I will never forget March 23, 2003...and your son, who remains in my heart. I have his picture saved...along with the other brave Troops who died that day. My son was there, with your son.
(He was redeployed in Jan. 2005-Sept. 2005.)

YOUR SON IS A HERO!

Not one day goes by that I do not think of these young men. There is a Website dedicated to them at:

It's amazing how it seems like just yesterday you were taken from us and yet so long since we've laughed and joked like we always did. You are missed everyday and those of us who were blessed to have you in our lives have been forever changed by your loss. I will always be grateful for your presence in my life, not only because of your unbelieveable sacrifice, bravery and courage, but your friendship and kindness as well. Miss you Vince...

As a young man I did my student teaching in Chatham, New Jersey. It was also during a difficult time - Vietnam. I have always been impressed with the outstanding number of quality people the community of Chatham, New Jersey, produces. Vincent is obviously a wonderful example of an outstanding member of the community of Chatham. My heartfelt condolences to Vincent's family, in this incredibly difficult hour.
