Dear family and friends of Lt. Col. Mr. David S. Greene:
I saw the tribute to Lt. Greene at the end of an episode of 24. I found this website after Googleing Lt. Greene's name. My name is Koen van Woensel and i live in the Netherlands. Although i did not know Lt. Greene i would very much like to communicate my great respect for him and for the braveness and sacrifices he made.
As a 50+ inhabitant of the Netherlands i very much would like to show my tremendous respect for Lt. Greene, and for all American soldiers that continiously do most of the work in trying to make this world a better place. I feel undiscribable humble and thankfull.
Although my post here is spontainious and i am speaking for myself, i am very sure that i also speak for many many many fellow inhabitants of the Netherlands.
The tribute to Lt. Greene on 24 was very impressive. For me this tribute struck me like lightening because it made ALL reality that i already knew suddenly very personal. I realise myself that behind the loss of live of every American soldier there is a personal background like Lt. Col. David Greene's.
By asking the family and friends of Lt. Col David S. Greene to accept my respect i hope they allow me to let this be a declaration of respect to all American Soldiers that offered their life for peace and well being of ALL people in every country.
At the same time; The tribute on 24 and al the things i have read about Lt. Col. David Greene made an irrasable impression on me. Because of this i will also remeber Lt. Col David S. Greene's name for ever.
with endless respect, from the Netherlands,
Koen van Woensel

To the family and friends of Lt. Col. David S. Greene:I had the privilege of serving with Lt.Col. Greene as a reservist with HMLA-775. Please know that he will always be remembered all year long, and not just on the anniversary of his death. From Memorial Day thru Labor Day I display a sign that reads "Always Remember" at my house. It always prompts a question about its meaning from company or passersby. I tell people of his honorable service and sacrifice. Know that many prayers are sent your way and Lt.Col. Greene will always be remembered with reverence by my family....Semper Fi

Dear Sarah, Jena and Wesley --
Please know that you are not the only ones who remember, with respect and gratitude, the life and service of your late husband and father. I have not forgotten what he, and you, sacrificed in defending my freedom.

In Memory of David ~ (Debra Estep)

Holding you all in my thoughts and prayers.

The Wind on The Downs

“I like to think of you as brown and tall,
As strong and living as you used to be,
In khaki tunic, Sam Brown belt and all,
And standing there and laughing down at me.
Because they tell me, dear, that you are dead,
Because I can no longer see your face,
You have not died, it is not true, instead
You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe;
I hear you laughing as you used to do,
Yet loving all the things I think of you;
And knowing you are happy, should I grieve?
You follow and are watchful where I go.”

(Written by Marian Allen during World War l )

Two lines that I wish you to keep near your heart…….

“You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe”

I did not know David, but I am remembering
his service. He is my hero. !

The Other Side

i'm over on the other side
where life and death softly divide.
left my skin and bones behind
now i'm over on the other side.

can you feel me there with you?
my breath is gone but i'm not through.
loved you then and i still do
from over on the other side.

i can fly. really fly.
below the earth ... all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

it's good here on the other side.
the sweetest songs...the bluest skies.
thank you for the tears you cried
but it's good here on the other side.

i can fly. really fly. below the earth...all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side

the world is smaller than a needle's eye.
where life and death softly divide.
when you leave your skin and bones behind
i'll be waiting on the other side.

i can fly. really fly. below the earth ... all through the sky.
go tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

If this person can stand in battle to ensure my freedom, then I will stand in grief with his/her family to honor him/her. For every fallen HERO there is a bright star that shines in the evening sky to remind us of the cherished gift we were given – even if for too short a time.
My heart breaks again as I sign yet another guest book of another courageous young soldier who gave their life so selflessly. I wish I never found myself in a position to have to sign another guest book for the rest of my life, but I promised Le Ron A. Wilson (a dear friend KIA 7/6/07, 18yrs old) that neither he nor any like him would be forgotten and so I will continue until the day there is no longer the need.

Dear Sarah, Jena and Wesley --
One of the reasons that I and my family have freedom in our lives is that your husband and father was willing to place his life at risk to defend his country. He was not the only one to sacrifice for that. You, too, pay a price for my freedom, every day. I cannot know what that costs you, but I want you to know that I remember what he did, that I reflect on the meaning of his life, and that I am grateful not only to him but also to you for the freedom that I and my family have. May God give you strength every day of your lives, and help you to remember the love that your husband and father had for you.
Respectfully,
Peter Shawhan

All of us at GBCA have fond memories of working with Dave. He was one of the most honorable men you could ever meet. I remember Walter, one of our staff members, had commented that he'd heard the roar of military aircraft flying low over the Wissahickon Valley one night. He asked Dave if he knew what that was. Dave replied, "Yes. It's the sound of freedom."
