Hello,

We apologize for being so late in expressing our deepest condolences to you and your family. We want you to know that we will be sending Care Packages to deployed troops this holiday season and several of these will be dedicated to your loved one. Each package will carry the name, photo, service branch, rank and hometown of Linda Ann Tarango-Griess US Army Sergeant 1st Class.

We realize that this is a small tribute, but we do this with all respect and sincerity and we want you to know that it is made possible by thousands of like-minded individuals from across the American youth hockey community, their families, friends and others who support our mission.

We will not forget. May God Bless you and keep you safe and strong.

I proudly display the flag given to me by my father, a veteran himself, that flew in a traveling memorial in Colorado back in 2006. The flag honors both SFC Tarango-Griess and Sgt Jeremy Fischer. The bracelet in the foreground memorializes PFC Tyler Mackenzie of Colorado, a former student and athlete I was fortunate to know. I thank them all for their sacrifice and as we approach Veteran's Day this weekend, we remember them and all the others that gave all to protect our way of life.

My daughter's select softball team, the NE Quakes Prime 16U, are wearing jerseys at a Memorial Day tournament in Kansas City that honor fallen soldiers. My daughter, Maggie, is playing in honor of SFC Taranto-Griess today. We remember her and thank her for her service. Maggie is humbled to wear Linda's name not only as a fallen soldier but as a fellow woman.

While we only met briefly during our time at FOB Speicher, you made such an impression on me SFC Tarango-Griess. You were a professional through and through and I admired you so much and your death hit me very hard. I think of you so often, even 8 years later, and wish you could still be with your friends and family. You will never be forgotten, even by some of us who only had the chance to meet you briefly in this life!

Linda, I have been thinking of you lately and the time when I was doing my AT in Hastings and the long rides we used to take to Lincoln. I was inspired by you in those two weeks to be a better soldier because you showed me that there are still some good leaders who genuinely care for their soldiers. You will forever be missed by this soldier.

Linda,
Another birthday that can't be celebrated with you and it breaks my heart that you are not here with us.

The pain of losing you never goes away I just hide it from the people around me. My comfort is knowing that you are with Julie, Tony, Grandpa, and Lee and that someday I too will be with you again.

Love you,

Linda,
Saturday it was five years since we received that call that devastated the family. I have cried so many tears since that day. You are in my heart and thoughts every day. Some days I sit and think of all the things I taught you and experienced with you and my heart becomes so heavy I wonder how I will go on.

When we lost Antony four-years after your death I again experienced a loss that took another piece of my heart but I found some comfort in knowing that because of your love for him you and Julie where there to walk him home.

Someday I will again see your lovely smile along with Julie, Antony, and my beloved father but until that day I will miss you.

Love,
Aunt Terry

Linda,
Today is your birthday and how I wish you were here. I know God had a purpose for taking you home but I wonder if he knew how much the people who knew and loved you would miss you.

I miss you so much and the pain of knowing I can't touch your lovely face and see your beautiful smile is something I deal with every day.

The one thing that gets me thru each day is the knowledge that you loved me as much as I loved you.

Linda,
Today is four-years since you left us and the pain is as sharp as the day we were told you were gone. I think of you every day and my heart hurts to know that I can't touch your beautiful face or see that beautiful smile.

Know that I love you and will some day be by your side. Until then I walk with God as he helps me with my pain.

Love you,
Aunt Terry

The Other Side

i'm over on the other side
where life and death softly divide.
left my skin and bones behind
now i'm over on the other side.

can you feel me there with you?
my breath is gone but i'm not through.
loved you then and i still do
from over on the other side.

i can fly. really fly.
below the earth ... all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

it's good here on the other side.
the sweetest songs...the bluest skies.
thank you for the tears you cried
but it's good here on the other side.

i can fly. really fly. below the earth...all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side

the world is smaller than a needle's eye.
where life and death softly divide.
when you leave your skin and bones behind
i'll be waiting on the other side.

i can fly. really fly. below the earth ... all through the sky.
go tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

I met SFC "T" on July 10, 2004, while she was in Balad, Iraq. I ask her if she would take a repair part back to Tikrit, for a unit that needed it, when her convoy headed back. She asked me about the job I was doing. I told her about the role of a TACOM LAR. She was very interested in the Supply LAR side. I contacted the LAR, in Tikrit, on 11 Jul 04, to ask if he had gotten the part from her and he told me her unit said that she's no longer with us. Although I only got to meet her for a brief moment in time, she left a life-long memory that stays with me today. I'm on my third trip over to Iraq and I always find myself remembering SFC "T". She is and always will be a "HERO" to me.

Every time I read about a unit that has come home I cry. I cry out of happiness for those that came home to their loved one and I cry for you and the others who never returned.

I was blessed to have you in my life and I keep my memories and love for you in my heart until I see you again.

Tomorrow will be your birthday and I miss you so much. I wish you were here so I could hug you and tell you I love you.

Today I've been thinking of your past birthdays, like when we invited your whole 6th grade class for a pizza party at Pizza Hut (what was I thinking)or the get togethers you had when you got older. How I wish I was going tomorrow to party with you instead of leaving flowers at your grave.

I hope that God celebrates with you tomorrow and I will celebrate having you in my life for the time you were on earth.

Love you!

Hi Linda,

It's two years today and the pain is as sharp as it was they day they told us you were gone.

Today I woke up and thought about the beautiful little girl with the curly hair, big eyes, and big smile that we all loved. I thought about the day you came to live with me, Fred, Scott and Jeff, your first day at a new grade school, and your first birthday and Christmas with us. I thought about all the softball games I roasted at to cheer you on, and all the nights I wondered why we encouraged you to play the saxaphone.

I smiled when I thought about all the talks we had, the fun we had looking for the right outfit for your first date, the right prom dress and the right wedding dress.

I remember holding you tight when your first true love broke-up with you and telling you someone better would come along and he did.

But most of all I remember hugging you tight the last time I saw you, scared that it would be the last time I would see you, but saying all the comforting things I know you needed to hear. I told you that I loved you and to come home safe because you where taking a piece of my heart with you. But you didn't come home safe and you took a part of me with you...but I know you will keep it safe until I see you again.

Love you,

Aunt Terry

I have always meant to write a tribute to Linda. It's always been too painful to do. She was the first person to welcome me to the Nebraska Army National Guard when I moved to Nebraska from Ohio. I couldn't have asked for a better friend or platoon sergeant. Linda was beautiful inside and out. Every time I see her picture, I feel the pain of her loss again. I was fortunate to meet Linda, her relatives and many friends. She will always hold a special place in my heart. I try to be the kind of soldier and person Linda would have wanted me to be. She was a great mentor to me and I will always miss her. I'm grateful she shared her friends and family with me. May her family and friends take comfort in their memories of shared experiences with Linda.
