I happened to be playing with my grandson at the Tanglewood Park this morning and we sat on the bench that had a plaque dedicated to L/Cpl Andrew Riedel. I was so touched by the inscription and wanted to find out more about this remarkable young man. As a former Marine, I simply wanted to say how grateful my grandson and I are for Andrew's sacrifice.

Hello,
We would like to express our deepest condolences and also let the Riedel Family know that we recently made a small donation to the Marine Corps Law Enforcement Foundation in honor of Andrew G. Riedel US Marine Private 1st Class. We recognize that this is a humble tribute, but we wanted you to know that it is heartfelt and made possible by thousands of like-minded individuals in the youth hockey community and beyond. We will not forget. May God Bless you and keep you strong.

I recieved Andrew's name at a Memorial Day service at the Steamboat Springs cemetary this year. Our Church marched in the parade today, July 4, 2010 in Steamboat and I carried the American Flag in Andrew's Honor. This afternoon, that Flag is flying in my front yard at half mast in Andrew's honor. God continue to grant his family peace.

There is nothing that I can say or do to take away the pain or bring you peace in your time of sorrow, but I will offer you and your family my heart felt condolences. I also offer you my prayers that in time the pain will easy and the memories of your HERO will carry you through each day and night. I want to thank your HERO, for his/her selfless act of becoming a member of the armed forces, his/her willingness to defend the United States of America, all that we hold sacred and for the sacrifice that will forever be etched in the memories of all those who knew him/her. Though tears can never bring him/her back, we hope that our tears express our gratitude for the sacrifice that he/she made and our sorrow at his/her passing. I believe for every fallen HERO there is a star shining brightly up above to remind us of the precious gift we were given.
Your mission on earth is complete and you are now a member of GOD’s Heavenly armed forces. Stand down brave warrior and take your rightful place in Heaven with all the HEROES who have passed before.
I made a special promise to LE RON A. WILSON, a dear family friend (KIA on 07/06/07 at the age of 18) on the day he was laid to rest as I touched his coffin, that I would never forget him nor would I forget those that gave their lives for our country before him, with him and after him and so when I came across www.legacy.com, I thought what a great way to keep my promise to Le Ron, so I will continue to leave tributes in each guest book until the day there is no longer the need to leave these tributes to a FALLEN HERO.

There is not a day that goes by that I don't think of you and the ultimate sacrifice that you made. I proudly keep your picture on my fridge and in my office. I can still see your smile when you would walk into the Young Marines. You didn't have to say a word - your smile said enough. Cory talks of you from time to time often wondering what you would be doing today. You're in God's Country now where there is only peace. I say "good-bye" for now, knowing we will see each other again sometime.

Please know that Andrew is enjoying a freedom and peace in heaven - the same things that he worked hard to provide for us by serving in the Marines during these unsettled times. Even though he was young in his years, he said a loud and strong "YES" to his country, his family, and certainly the world. When duty called, he answered. When integrity, honor and loyalty were on the line, he fulfilled his duty. We didn't have the pleasure of knowing him personally, but we are proud and very grateful for knowing what he did for us. Our hearts and prayers go out to all of you. He will always be remembered.

The Few. The Proud. The Marines. Is not just recruitment advertising. Growing up with a Marine father I understand the principles. An island hopper in WWII, he was in the first battalion that landed on Iwo Jima, Midway and Guadalcanal. In the early 50’s he was in France and then on to the Korea. Being a Marine is a Way of Life.
You and I have not known each other since you were a very young man, Andrew. The last time we spoke you were in your early teens. Your family came to California on vacation and we spent the day at Universal Studios. During the last 15+ years, your mom and I have not talked on a daily basis, but we have always felt a strong connection. On Friday, October 29th she sent me a very brief email that you were in Fallujah and it was scary. The following day you gave your life in a suicide car bombing. You too were in a first battalion to secure a city, to save and protect its innocents. You have done your job well. Your family, friends and country are proud of you and your ability to serve your country in battle with courage and conviction to make the world a better place. Your acts of bravery will always be remembered as we continue to live in a free democratic country. You and your family will forever be in my heart and prayers.

I went to school with Andrew from seventh grade until we graduated. Andrew and I became great friendS through the years. I have many great memories of Andrew and the one I love the most is our senior year at prom, we went as a large group. We took a picture standing in front of Andrews with me in the middle with my lime green dress and Chad and Dj on either side of me Tony next to Chad and Andrew next to Dj. I carry the picture with me every where and when people see it they ask "You had four dates to prom," I laugh and say no those are four of the best friends anyone could ask for. Now I have three best friends here with me that anyone could ask for and the BEST gardian angel anyone could ask for watching over me. Andrew I love you and miss you very much! Thank you for what you did for me,the rest of our friends and the country. I know we will be together soon, but until then I will miss you very much. You will never be forgotten, ANDREW!!
