Holding you all in my thoughts and prayers.

The Wind on The Downs

“I like to think of you as brown and tall,
As strong and living as you used to be,
In khaki tunic, Sam Brown belt and all,
And standing there and laughing down at me.
Because they tell me, dear, that you are dead,
Because I can no longer see your face,
You have not died, it is not true, instead
You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe;
I hear you laughing as you used to do,
Yet loving all the things I think of you;
And knowing you are happy, should I grieve?
You follow and are watchful where I go.”

(Written by Marian Allen during World War l )

Two lines that I wish you to keep near your heart…….

“You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe”

I did not know David, but I am remembering
his service and sacrifice. He is my hero. !

The Other Side

i'm over on the other side
where life and death softly divide.
left my skin and bones behind
now i'm over on the other side.

can you feel me there with you?
my breath is gone but i'm not through.
loved you then and i still do
from over on the other side.

i can fly. really fly.
below the earth ... all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

it's good here on the other side.
the sweetest songs...the bluest skies.
thank you for the tears you cried
but it's good here on the other side.

i can fly. really fly. below the earth...all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side

the world is smaller than a needle's eye.
where life and death softly divide.
when you leave your skin and bones behind
i'll be waiting on the other side.

i can fly. really fly. below the earth ... all through the sky.
go tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

My sympathys are with you for your loss. Remember that your son was a graduate of a fraternity called Marines. I also didn't have direction in life and the Marines gave that to me. Marines are loyal. Marines are resiliant. Marines never give up. Marines are the back bone of the military. Marines get the job done when no one else wants to do it. Marines know no fear. Marines walk straight, with their back arched and their chin up.
I never knew your son personally, but yet I did know him because I AM a Marine. I know your loss is deep, but take comfort in the fact that guys like me and many others will always hold your sons memory in high reguard. I am bugler for American Legion post 208, Monroe, NC. Next time I play taps, I will remember Lance Cpl. David B. Houck and the rest of our commrades that have fallen. Semper Fidelis (always faithful)

Remembering you on this Memorial Day weekend. We owe so much to you. The words "Thank you" seem so insignificant for the most precious of all gifts you gave to all of us. Without you and the other unselfish, extraordinarily brave men & women who have dedicated themselves to preserving our way of life, none of us could be enjoying this wonderful day in this greatest of all countries. All I can do is promise to appreciate to the fullest each and every one of our freedoms and to remember WHY I have those freedoms. Bless you and your family.

Father we entrust our brother David to your mercy. You loved him greatly in this life: now that he is freed from all its cares, give him happiness and peace forever. Welcome him now into paradise where there will be no more sorrow, no more weeping or pain, but only peace and joy with Jesus your Son, and the Holy Spirit forever and ever.
May God hold David in the palm of His hand. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. My deepest sympathy.

David, I never had the pleasure to meet you, but through my son Kevin (also of 1/8), I feel connected to you in ways that I cannot explain. Kevin talked of your friendship long before Fallujah and shared stories and pictures of you and some of the other marine brothers on many home visits or talks over the phone from Camp Lejeune. Although you have left this earth, you will never leave my mind and my heart. Never will a November pass in my lifetime that I won't think of
you and all the good that you stand for. You will be in Kevin's heart forever also, he will carry you with him until he comes to meet you someday. What a glorious day that will be! God crosses our paths with people on purpose and I thank him for that. May you rest in peace..

Dave,
Through SOI, both deployments, and the down time around Lejeune, it was great hanging out with you. I've never known anyone else who knew so many random facts about anything and everything. You were a true field Marine, and a great friend. Rest In Peace, Marine. Godspeed and Semper Fidelis.

I often feel that there are no words great enough to accurately express my sympathy and gratitude for such a courageous Warrior. I only wish I could have had the honor of being in his presence.

I feel like I know you... for my husband talks about you often, Dave... and I'm sure you never leave his thoughts. Your bravery that day is the reason my husband, along with the other Marines of your fireteam, can stand before us today. I am so thankful that Jeremy came home-- but it breaks my heart that it was through your sacrifice.

We will spread the story of your bravery to future generations-- and our new son, David Hawk, will carry on your legacy with honor and pride.

You will forever be in our hearts Dave.

Rest in peace.

God Bless you and your family.

There is nothing that I can say or do to take away the pain or bring you peace in your time of sorrow, but I will offer you and your family my heart felt condolences. I also offer you my prayers that in time the pain will easy and the memories of your HERO will carry you through each day and night. I want to thank your HERO, for his/her selfless act of becoming a member of the armed forces, his/her willingness to defend the United States of America, all that we hold sacred and for the sacrifice that will forever be etched in the memories of all those who knew him/her. Though tears can never bring him/her back, we hope that our tears express our gratitude for the sacrifice that he/she made and our sorrow at his/her passing. I believe for every fallen HERO there is a star shining brightly up above to remind us of the precious gift we were given.

Your mission on earth is complete and you are now a member of GOD’s Heavenly armed forces. Stand down brave warrior and take your rightful place in Heaven with all the HEROES who have passed before.

I made a special promise to LE RON A. WILSON, a dear family friend who joined the Army with three other friends, one of whom is my son (Le Ron was killed in action on 07/06/07 at the age of 18) on the day he was laid to rest as I touched his coffin, that I would never forget him nor would I forget those that gave their lives for our country before him, with him and after him and so when I came across www.legacy.com, I thought what a great way to keep my promise to Le Ron, so I will continue to leave tributes in each guest book until the day there is no longer the need to leave these tributes to a FALLEN HERO.

REST IN PEACE, HERO, YOU WILL NEVER BE FORGOTTEN!!

I am a former infantry(airborne) medic(1974-78) and it is no cliche' to
say that our country loses some of it's best to war. David, I have no
doubt, was one of our best. Nothing I write here could even begin to
assuage your grief. I am, however, from the depths of my heart very,
very sorry for your loss.

Although I never knew David, I am thinking of him on this Memorial Day 2006. For the past year, I have worn his memory on my wrist in the form a bracelet from HeroBracelets.org. I could have chosen a name I had heard from here in Arizona or someone somewhat famous like Pat Tillman, but I chose to have this organization send me a "random" bracelet in order for me to think of and honor a person whom I don't now and have never heard of. Thanks to David for his service and sacrifice. Thoughts of prayer an support go out to David's family. Know that David is never forgotten, even by those who never had the pleasure of meeting him. God Bless America.

David it has been 16 months since you were taken. You are a hero and you will never be forgotten.

I send each of you a hug from the most inner part of my heart.

To the Houck family, I have no words to express my deep sadness at your loss. As a Marine David had many brothers that also feel the loss, myself included. I am a Vietnam Vet. and plan to visit Washington this summer to visit the Memorial 1st. time. I would also like to pay my respects to David. If you would please send me his location at Arlinton I would be very thankful. Respecfully: Ken Beck former Corporal, always Marine. Semper Fi to you all, and David.

I wish there was a way to let you know how much we appreciate Lance Cpl. Houck. David and those like him are the reason I am able to even sit at this computer and say what I want to say. The reason we have all of our freedoms. There are no words sufficient to thank him for that. Bless him and bless you his family & friends.
