I would like to let Greggs parents know that he is not forgotten. I have been carrying a picture of Gregg and a brother Marine taken in Iraq while he was on tour there. That was almost 14 years ago. I carry it in my Bible and I remember Gregg every Sunday when I open it. I thank God for such brave young men that sacrificed their lives for this country. I think of him every Sunday and will do so till I am called home. Just wanted you to know I am one of many he influences on a regular basis to this very day.

Hello,
We would like to express our deepest condolences and also let the Rund Family know that we recently made a small donation to Columbine High School/Greg Rund Memorial Scholarship in honor of Gregory P. Rund US Marine Lance Corporal. We recognize that this is a humble tribute, but we wanted you to know that it is heartfelt and made possible by thousands of like-minded individuals in the youth hockey community and beyond. We will not forget. May God Bless you and keep you strong.
Sincerely,

Greg, I barely knew you as my third cousin. It was very hard hearing we lost a family member in war. It's in the family war and military stuff. You were brave to fight and continue on the family gene. We miss you and I tried to find your grave a few months ago and couldn't hard to believe huh.....

Dear Rund Family,
I am pausing in a time of silence for your fallen Marine on this day, the 5th anniversary of your loss.
I am but one of many Marine Moms who are remembering Gregory today. I pray that the sorrow that broke your hearts has passed and that you are now able to focus with pride on only the good memories.

My thoughts, prayers, and sympathies go out to the family and loved ones of Gregory P. Rund today. I can only imagine what it may feel like to be a loved one of a person the calibre of Mr. Rund and have to mourn the loss of him, I must admit it's not a feeling I ever want to feel and again, I am so sorry for your loss.
Mr. Rund is one of a handful of fallen soldiers I have chosen to single out to my young nephews and niece so as to explain to them the meaning of what it is to serve your country, protect us living in this country and unfortunately paying the ultimate price. Mr. Rund will always be remembered in our family although none of us ever had the privilege of meeting him. When one of the kids in our family is asked who a hero is to them I know they'll immediately respond that Lance Cpl. Gregory Rund is one of the heroes they know.
God Bless Gregory Rund, his family and all the rest of his loved ones! I thank you all for loving and caring for a man strong enough to sacrifice himself for me and my family and once again, words cannot explain how sorry I am for his loss.

Holding you all in my thoughts and prayers.
The Wind on The Downs
“I like to think of you as brown and tall,
As strong and living as you used to be,
In khaki tunic, Sam Brown belt and all,
And standing there and laughing down at me.
Because they tell me, dear, that you are dead,
Because I can no longer see your face,
You have not died, it is not true, instead
You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe;
I hear you laughing as you used to do,
Yet loving all the things I think of you;
And knowing you are happy, should I grieve?
You follow and are watchful where I go.”
(Written by Marian Allen during World War l )
Two lines that I wish you to keep near your heart…….
“You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe”
I did not know Gregory, but I am remembering
his service and sacrifice. He is my hero. !

The Other Side
i'm over on the other side
where life and death softly divide.
left my skin and bones behind
now i'm over on the other side.
can you feel me there with you?
my breath is gone but i'm not through.
loved you then and i still do
from over on the other side.
i can fly. really fly.
below the earth ... all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.
it's good here on the other side.
the sweetest songs...the bluest skies.
thank you for the tears you cried
but it's good here on the other side.
i can fly. really fly. below the earth...all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side
the world is smaller than a needle's eye.
where life and death softly divide.
when you leave your skin and bones behind
i'll be waiting on the other side.
i can fly. really fly. below the earth ... all through the sky.
go tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

There is nothing that I can say or do to take away the pain or bring you peace in your time of sorrow, but I will offer you and your family my heart felt condolences. I also offer you my prayers that in time the pain will easy and the memories of your HERO will carry you through each day and night. I want to thank your HERO, for his/her selfless act of becoming a member of the armed forces, his/her willingness to defend the United States of America, all that we hold sacred and for the sacrifice that will forever be etched in the memories of all those who knew him/her. Though tears can never bring him/her back, we hope that our tears express our gratitude for the sacrifice that he/she made and our sorrow at his/her passing. I believe for every fallen HERO there is a star shining brightly up above to remind us of the precious gift we were given.
Your mission on earth is complete and you are now a member of GOD’s Heavenly armed forces. Stand down brave warrior and take your rightful place in Heaven with all the HEROES who have passed before.
I made a special promise to LE RON A. WILSON, a dear family friend who joined the Army with three other friends, one of whom is my son (Le Ron was killed in action on 07/06/07 at the age of 18) on the day he was laid to rest as I touched his coffin, that I would never forget him nor would I forget those that gave their lives for our country before him, with him and after him and so when I came across www.legacy.com, I thought what a great way to keep my promise to Le Ron, so I will continue to leave tributes in each guest book until the day there is no longer the need to leave these tributes to a FALLEN HERO.

I am married to a Marine that was in India Company with Greg. He had so many wonderful things to say about your son. He told me he was funny and kind, how driven he was, how much he wanted to attend college. I never met your son, but attended his funeral and could see what an amazing young man he was. please know that your pain is all of our pain. You are not in this alone. Your family and "Rund", as I heard him called, will not be forgotten. Thank you for raising a man like this. Thank you Greg for giving the most any human can for another. Dear Parents of LCPL Gregory P Rund,
Upon this difficult anniversary, please accept my deepest sympathies in the loss of your son. I am the mother of one of his squad members and met your son when they deployed last year. His sense of humor delighted us all, giving us a much lighter experience of a difficult separation. I'll never forget his words nor his beautiful smile. I'll never forget my son's words to me when he shared his grief with me... "ONE casualty is TOO many Mom". My son continues to ache for you as do all the young men who fought with him. They looked upon you as their "Squad Mom" and looked forward to your care-packages the most as there was always something for everyone. We will never forget your son nor his sacrifice and honor to our country as he lives on forever in the hearts of all who knew him. May God continue to comfort you always as we think of you and your family with warmest regard.

Dear Mr. and Mrs. Rund,
I left the following message for your son on the Fallen Heroes Memorial website. I wanted to post it here as well so some of his friends and family could read it too. As a parent and a neighbor, PLEASE know that my wife and I share your grief. I honestly hope you have found some peace since your precious Greg began his new life. Warmest personal regards, Tom Turnquist.
"Hello young Marine. I visited your grave today (August 18, 2005). It was a beautiful day, with sounds and smells that can only be Colorado in the summertime. I gave you my best salute - maybe you saw it. But then I immediately felt guilty - because of the man I am and the man you were. I regret that I never had the pleasure of meeting you, but I have read about you and seen your picture on the internet - what a handsome and winning smile you had! I have two little boys of my own that I treasure so much. Their names are Tristan and Trevor. Tristan started kindergarten this week and he loves it! If my boys ever decide to join the Marines, I will tell them all I can about you and what you did. I would love to bring them to visit you some time. We don't live far from where you rest. My wife and I thank you, Greg, for protecting our children and our home. With reverence and affection from a grateful American father, may eternal life and peace be yours, young Gregory Rund."

hi, I went to school with Hilario Lopez. He was also killed in the ambush that Lance CPL. Gregory P. Rund was killed in. Im so sorry about your loss. I think of everyday the sadness that people have to go through in this crazy war. My brother was in the marines also. He was injured in Najaf in Iraq. He was lucky though. I wish you were along with the others who suffer losses. God is watching over everyone of these soldiers and over you. love Keysha

Hey, my name is Kristen and I just moved to Colorado recently. I remember back during the Columbine time, my school changed totally in Georgia. It was a hard time for the country, because it could happen to any school. For a guy to live through that then go fight for his country is truly heroic. I just would like to express my condolences to Greg's family for your loss. Anyone that serves our country is a hero in my eyes.
My boyfriend is going into the Marines and his brother is in the Marines. They are both doing reserves and when I found out what happened, I was shocked. Your son is a brave person to go to Fallujah and fight for our country. He will be in my prayers and so will your family. God Bless!
