Hello,
We wanted to let your family and friends know that we are sending Care Packages to deployed troops this week and some of these will be dedicated to your loved one. Each package will carry the name, photo and hometown of Melvin L. Blazer US Marine Staff Sergeant.
We realize that this is a small tribute, but we do this with all respect and sincerity and we want you to know that it is made possible by thousands of like-minded individuals from across the American youth hockey community, their families and friends and others who support our mission.
We will not forget. May God Bless you and keep you safe and strong.

The flag is flying in the sky
A daily reminder of who and why
We sit here remembering them today
These heroes that now lie in their grave.
While here on earth, the bravest ones
A soldier, a mother, a daughter, a son
The father's who went far off to war
To ensure our safety and so much more
To keep our children happy and free,
Someone must do this job, you see
So, today remember the soldiers who served,
Because this is one thing they truly deserve.
The loved one's that they have left behind,
The Gold Star mothers, like your and mine
We honor them proudly, every day
Our American Soldier...Proud and Brave
By Shannon Williams-Austill
I want to thank this soldier for their sacrifice.
And, I wish to extend my deepest regards to the loved ones they have left behind. Their service to our nation, has not gone unnoticed. They are our heroes, who paid the ultimate price for us, and that is something that every American needs to be reminded of and remember everyday.
The freedom we all have, we have because of brave young men and women who made a choice to defend and serve.
Today, let me remember your loved one with you.

I've set aside time today to reflect on the past and remember that your family has suffered the loss of their soldier. Thank you for this soldier's service and duty. Holding you all in my thoughts and prayers.
The Wind on The Downs
“I like to think of you as brown and tall,
As strong and living as you used to be,
In khaki tunic, Sam Brown belt and all,
And standing there and laughing down at me.
Because they tell me, dear, that you are dead,
Because I can no longer see your face,
You have not died, it is not true, instead
You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe;
I hear you laughing as you used to do,
Yet loving all the things I think of you;
And knowing you are happy, should I grieve?
You follow and are watchful where I go.”
(Written by Marian Allen during World War l )
Two lines that I wish you to keep near your heart…….
“You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe”
I did not know Melvin, but I am remembering
his service and sacrifice. He is my hero. !

The Other Side
i'm over on the other side
where life and death softly divide.
left my skin and bones behind
now i'm over on the other side.
can you feel me there with you?
my breath is gone but i'm not through.
loved you then and i still do
from over on the other side.
i can fly. really fly.
below the earth ... all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.
it's good here on the other side.
the sweetest songs...the bluest skies.
thank you for the tears you cried
but it's good here on the other side.
i can fly. really fly. below the earth...all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side
the world is smaller than a needle's eye.
where life and death softly divide.
when you leave your skin and bones behind
i'll be waiting on the other side.
i can fly. really fly. below the earth ... all through the sky.
go tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

I've wanted to do this for a couple years. SSgt Blazer and I served at Marine Barracks Hawaii (Pearl Harbor) back in 92-94. He was a Corporal and I a Lance Cpl. We would race our motorcycles out the front gate after post from time to time. He was a "Marines Marine". In 1994 I rotated to 1st Battalion 3rd Marines at K-Bay and never saw Cpl Blazer again.
I left active duty in 1998. After September 11th I enlisted in the Marine Reserves 2nd Bn 24th Marines in Des Monies Iowa. We were activated in June of 2004. During our mobilization we trained at Camp Pendleton and during one particular exercise we went to Riverside, CA March Air Force Base to Conduct Stability and Support Operations. I was tasked as part of the training to take a patrol out into the "town" and meet with an "Iraqi Sheik". The Iraqi's in our training town were Marine role players from the local units. I couldn't believe it. The "Sheik" was my old buddy from Hawaii! Melvin had stayed with the Marines long after I had gotten out.
Over the next couple days I briefly caught up with him again. He was just as I remembered him.
Once again we parted ways never to meet again.
I completed my tour in Iraq in March of 2005. I enrolled in college classes the Fall of 05. One of my first courses was English. I was able to write about Iraq and our experiences. One night while sitting in the computer lab with my class we were working on our research paper. I was going through "Faces of the Fallen". As part of a tribute in my paper I was going to list all of the Marines my unit lost. I was scrolling through December of 2004. I saw a familiar name. Then the face. I felt sick, I could not believe it but there was no doubt. It was our Corporal Blazer. The man that I had not seen for ten years but then I come across him during training. I tried to hold back the emotions I felt but there was no way.
Later that week I contacted another buddy of ours in Texas and I directed him to the website. Again there was no doubt. SSgt Blazer was gone.
I can't image how tough of a loss it must have been for all of the young men in his unit. Melvin was a true role model.
To his wife and children, please know that few days go by where I don't think about your loss.
I have a picture of he and I in Riverside, CA July 2004 before we parted as well as his name etched from the "Wall" in Marseillies, Illinois.
Rest in Peace Brother...
Sgt Matthew S. Courtney

There is nothing that I can say or do to take away the pain or bring you peace in your time of sorrow, but I will offer you and your family my heart felt condolences. I also offer you my prayers that in time the pain will easy and the memories of your HERO will carry you through each day and night. I want to thank your HERO, for his/her selfless act of becoming a member of the armed forces, his/her willingness to defend the United States of America, all that we hold sacred and for the sacrifice that will forever be etched in the memories of all those who knew him/her. Though tears can never bring him/her back, we hope that our tears express our gratitude for the sacrifice that he/she made and our sorrow at his/her passing. I believe for every fallen HERO there is a star shining brightly up above to remind us of the precious gift we were given.
Your mission on earth is complete and you are now a member of GOD’s Heavenly armed forces. Stand down brave warrior and take your rightful place in Heaven with all the HEROES who have passed before.
I made a special promise to LE RON A. WILSON, a dear family friend who joined the Army with three other friends, one of whom is my son (Le Ron was killed in action on 07/06/07 at the age of 18) on the day he was laid to rest as I touched his coffin, that I would never forget him nor would I forget those that gave their lives for our country before him, with him and after him and so when I came across www.legacy.com, I thought what a great way to keep my promise to Le Ron, so I will continue to leave tributes in each guest book until the day there is no longer the need to leave these tributes to a FALLEN HERO.

To The Blazer Family,
Staff Sergeant Melvin Blazer was an outstanding Marine and a fine person. I worked with him aboard Parris Island and knew him well. His professionalism and leadership left a positive impact upon myself and literally thousands of others whom he shaped to be among the finest Marksmen in the world. Know that he cannot be forgotten, as he carries on as a significant part of a living legacy... "The United States Marine Corps". I was blessed to have known him and I pray that this message reaches you in comfort in good health.

Dear Mr. & Mrs. Blazer,
My wife and I would like to offer our condolences in the loss of your son, and a Hero, SSgt. Blazer. Your son was a Marine that Our son Ryan, looked upto, and Joined the Marine Corp under. We informed Ryan of SSgt. Blazers death this past Friday. Ryan's regret was that even though they are in different Divisions, they were both in Fallujah and Ryan didn't know it or he would have made an effort to visit your son. Ryan, like us have been touched by your sons integrity, honesty and caring for people, especially those men and women he worked with in the United States Marine Corp. We wish we could attend the services today, but will not be able to. Again, our prayers and condolences to you both. Bill & Kim Cotton
