Mike Steward Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by John M. Ireland & Son Funeral Home and Chapel on Jan. 30, 2026.
Michael Vance Steward, Sr. (Mike) went to be with Jesus on Tuesday, January 27, 2026, at the age of 73. He was born on July 8, 1952, in Camp Roberts, California, to his parents, Billy and Lucille Steward. Mike grew up and attended school in Moore, OK.

In 1971, at the age of 19, he married his childhood sweetheart, Sally Whalen, and they enjoyed over 54 years of marriage and raised three children together. He faithfully served in various roles at Oklahoma Tank Lines/United Petroleum Transport for over 36 years and later retired from Star Transportation in 2019 as a Regional Manager.

Mike's life was centered around his wife, his children, and his grandchildren. He loved playing games and showing his affection by picking on those he cared about most. A natural prankster, Mike enjoyed aggravating people just enough to make them laugh. He loved being outdoors, working in his yard, collecting every tool he could get his hands on, and spending countless hours working on and meticulously cleaning his cars. He cherished time spent with friends and family, especially when it involved smoking meat and cooking for large gatherings at family celebrations and work events at Oklahoma Tank Lines. Mike took great pride in teaching his grandsons how to work on cars and passing along his knowledge. He loved his family and extended family deeply, and few things brought him more joy than his beloved Diet Coke-often shared from the same cup with his great-grandson.

Mike was preceded in death by his mother, Lucille Steward.

Mike is survived by his wife, Sally Steward of Moore, OK; his oldest son, Michael Steward, and wife Priscilla, of Oklahoma City, OK, with grandchildren Trey and Riley; his youngest son, Ronald Steward, and wife Shelley, of Norman, OK, with grandchildren Alexandra, Lauren, and Kara; and his daughter, Michele Stevens of Moore, OK, with grandchildren Corbin and Mason Stevens, Mason's wife Maddison, and great-grandchildren Russell and Maverick.

He is also survived by his father, Billy Van Steward, and wife Lynell of Oklahoma City, OK; his sister, Shirley Durham of Oklahoma City, OK; along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and many dear friends.
