LaVon Liebert Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by John M. Ireland & Son Funeral Home and Chapel on Mar. 17, 2026.
LaVon Marie (Brown) Liebert, age 90, passed peacefully in the loving presence of her family, on March 3, 2026, in Norman, Oklahoma.

She was born on February 3, 1936, in Holdrege, Nebraska, to Harold and Anna Brown.

LaVon was the youngest child in her family, born during the Great Depression with a sixteen-year age difference between her and her sister Marjorie. She spent her childhood on her family's dairy farm in Oxford, Nebraska, where the values of hard work, family, and kindness were instilled in her early and remained hallmarks of her life.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Harold and Anna Brown; her brother, Harold "Jr." Brown; her sister, Marjorie Phelps; her first husband, Larry Hahn; and her second husband, Pat Liebert.

LaVon is survived by her sons, Jeff Hahn and wife Twilla, and Brad Hahn. She was a devoted and loving grandmother, also known as "G", to Lindsey Reynolds, Ashley DeRoin, and Kasey Hahn, each of whom brought her tremendous pride and joy. LaVon was also a proud and loving great-grandmother, nicknamed "GG", to Henley, Lauren, and Crew, who filled her life with laughter and love.

Education and children were the center of LaVon's life. She earned her Bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education from Kansas State University where she met her first husband, Larry Hahn, and then later obtained her Master's degree in Education from the University of Central Oklahoma. She dedicated more than 40 years to teaching kindergarten, the majority of those years at Monroe Elementary School, where she helped shape and nurture generations of young students. During her many years at Monroe, she became especially known for bringing learning to life by integrating the beloved "Letter People" into her classroom curriculum, and for delighting her students with small rewards like gummy bears and Goldfish to celebrate good behavior and hard work. She had a natural gift with children and was known for her patience, warmth, and ability to make every child feel special.

After retiring from the classroom in '98, LaVon remained active in her community. She was a cherished member of McFarlin Church in Norman and an involved member of P.E.O. and the Assistance League of Norman, where she especially loved volunteering with Operation School Bell to help provide clothing and essentials for local children.

LaVon had many interests that brought her joy throughout her life. She loved shopping, traveling, oil painting, and playing the organ. She had a special affection for English bulldogs and delighted in raising them over the years. Friends and family fondly remember the sight of her driving her beloved bulldog Murphy around town in her yellow Mercedes station wagon. She also had a famously healthy habit of drinking more water than anyone who knew her had ever seen.

Above all, LaVon treasured her family. Time spent with her children and grandchildren was her greatest joy, and she remained deeply proud of the family she helped build. Her kindness, generosity, and steady presence touched countless lives, from the students she taught to the friends and neighbors who knew her.

LaVon lived most of her life in Oklahoma, including many years in Tuttle and later in Norman, where she built a life filled with service, faith, and love for others.

Her family is deeply grateful for the many people whose lives she touched and the legacy she leaves behind. Those who knew and loved LaVon will remember her for her gentle spirit, devotion to children, and the warmth she brought into every room.

Her memory will be cherished always by her family and all who had the privilege of knowing her.
