To Sean, all I can say is, thank you, as nothing I or I think anyone else says can contribute to the significance of your sacrifice. To Sean's family, obviously your sorrow is deep and difficult to contend with. I am sure, when looking back on Sean as a little boy, while there is no doubt he is missed, you must be proud of the young man he grew into. I am so deeply sorry for your loss. May you find peace.

The days go by and now years, and fortunately the Lord and the time help us all heal. I looked at the memories on SEANPMAHER.COM, and thank him and his family for the protection and bravery. Let's not ever forget the courage, the passion and the devotion this young man gave, for our freedom. Thank you Sean and Janet and Dan, I hope this hallowed anniversary finds you all with peace and serenity, as we all know Sean walks in the steps with the Lord and now stands guard at a much higher ground.

My nephew just became a Marine this past Sep.11th. He's 18. I'm not sure what to say here. I guess I'm just afraid for my nephew and want to reach out to others who have suffered this trememdous overwhelming loss. I didn't know Sean but after attending my nephews MCRD graduation its evident what Sean was made of..pure,unselfish,driven care for family and country. Thank you for your service Sean. We want to say thank you. We understand that no words can be adequate for your sorrow. We certainly do not want to intrude upon your privacy. As Americans we want you to know that we deeply appreciate the ultimate sacrifice your loved one has made for all of us. We also would like for you to be aware that with this letter comes our special concern and prayers for you. We are all safer because young men and women who love their country, and know the value of a free nation, are willing to put themselves in harms way, and lay down their lives to keep this nation free and safe for all of us.
Your sacrifice is also very great. We know that we can give little comfort; however, the knowledge that your loved one did not die in vain, but died in the service of our country, gives each of us a noble example of the value of life, and the responsibility of freedom. Many times I set at my computer watching the videos that remind me of the worke we done together. I know we didn't conversate much even though we were in the same platoon, but everyday I think about you as a lost brother. I send out a prayer for you each day even though I know your in a greater place I still find my self wondering of what your doing. The night I got the news I just sat and wanted be there when it all happened for you and the other brothers of 81s. You will always be remember and loved from your brother where ever I am in this world.

I'm a P.E. teacher at Woodland Middle School who wants to keep Sean's memory alive here. I use him as a role model for my current students. I hang his picture up in my office for students to see and to ask me about him. I proudly tell them who he is and what he stands for. Thanks Sean for visiting me and letting me see you in your uniform.

There is nothing that I can say or do to take away the pain or bring you peace in your time of sorrow, but I will offer you and your family my heart felt condolences. I also offer you my prayers that in time the pain will easy and the memories of your HERO will carry you through each day and night. I want to thank your HERO, for his/her selfless act of becoming a member of the armed forces, his/her willingness to defend the United States of America, all that we hold sacred and for the sacrifice that will forever be etched in the memories of all those who knew him/her. Though tears can never bring him/her back, we hope that our tears express our gratitude for the sacrifice that he/she made and our sorrow at his/her passing. I made a special promise to LE RON A. WILSON, a dear family friend who joined the Army with three other friends, one of whom is my son (Le Ron was killed in action on 07/06/07 at the age of 18) on the day he was laid to rest as I touched his coffin, that I would never forget him nor would I forget those that gave their lives for our country before him, with him and after him and so when I came across www.legacy.com, I thought what a great way to keep my promise to Le Ron, so I will continue to leave tributes in each guest book until the day there is no longer the need to leave these tributes to a FALLEN HERO.

To Seans Family,
I understand what you are experiencing and feeling. No amount of words can ease the pain of your loss. We know firsthand there are no words of comfort at this time. We lost our son on 9-3-2004, two days before he was to return home and at the age of 19. Just know that there are Marine families across the USA who is experiencing your loss and pain.
Sean - My family and I are thankful for the Bravery, Courage, Determinination and Service to fight for our country, (our freedom) from you ---, my son and all the others in our armed forces for the sacrifice made for us. You all will not be forgotten.

sean, i dont know why but so many of our memories have been running through my mind all day...well more than usual that is. not a day has gone by that i dont think of you or miss you. everyone says that the pain eases over time, but its been over a year and it still hurts so much. there are times i forget that you have past on, and then i remember that we wont ever have that "you and me" time again. you promised me that you would come home, and i hate that you arent here with me right now. i know that sounds selfish but i miss you so much. you have impacted my life so much that you have no choice but to be a part of my past and my childhood. you were not only an amazing young man but you were the best friend a girl could have. i love you so much and you will always be with me.

well, i dont even know where to begin, but to say that i have known sean forever. he was my neighobor and one my best friends. he looked over me like a brother, and took me under his wings. i still remember the days when he would make fun of me becuase my mom wouldn't let me walk to the park by myself, or stay out late even though his house was down the street. i miss you so much, and will always love you....i also miss feeling the base from your car coming up the street. i love you and will never forget you.

I was honored to get to know Sean during his time at SOI in California. He and I grew very close during that time, and I have some photos that might comfort someone who sees them. He is very happy in all of them and you can see his dimples if you look closely. If anyone wants to see them let me know. I would gladly share. I miss him every day and pray that it will be easier with time. My heart goes out to all of the wonderful people he told me so much about. I know he loved you all with his whole heart.

My sincerest condolences to the Maher family during your time of grief.
Nothing can console your broken hearts but perhaps knowing that so many fellow Americans grieve with you will bring you a small amount of comfort.
Our dear Lord must have needed a special soul the day he called Sean home for 19 years old is far too young to leave this earth. Sean had tremendous courage to face his duties and now the flame of courage has been passed on to you to live each day in honor of his precious life.
Each time I look at the brilliant stars at night, I will think of Sean and say a prayer he has found eternal peace.

Dear Maher Family,
My deepest sympathies for your loss. Sean was a fellow classmate, good friend and fellow marine to my nephew Christopher Wheeler. Although Sean is gone he will never be forgotten. He will always be honored as a hero in our family's eyes. I pray for the continued safety of your son Danny. I also hope with time that your grief will be less painful as you remember Sean and how he impacted everyone's life around him. Know that he is watching and protecting from above.

Dear Maher Family,
Just as my son felt compelled to honor your son with verse, I couldn't help but think of him as I read the following poem:
I heard of you today, not in a usual way, I heard of the courage you displayed today. Then I heard of your death that has come at such an early age, leaving us to weep and be full of rage. You gave the highest gift that anyone can ever present, and with your gift we know why you were sent. For you were born for a more noble purpose than most of us could ever bear, and, if life were fair...You would still be with us knowing of your valuable worth, to all of us here on earth. But in God's divine plan,you left us to be of service in his highest realm. You now are guarding his streets and taking your helm. To watch over and see that other's are safe, and brought home to their families, to be face to face. We are in debt to you always for being so brave, you were put here at this time to show us how to save. A country that needed to be free, an now we have the need to see...you safe in God's arms, full of body and health, and acknowledging that one's worth is not of wealth. But in the life you have given for someone else. So rest for a while and gather yourself. For God's angels are always on duty, and you have achieved this rare and distinct beauty. We salute you with tears in our eyes, because we now have to say goodbye. You are at home where you are mean't to be, and yes, don't worry, we won't stop until all are free. Your life has shown us there is a higher price to be paid, for the land of the free and the home of the brave.
May the memories of days past with Sean provide comfort to you in the present.

My deepest sympathy goes out to each one of you. I did not know your son Sean, but as I've read through other entries from friends and family, it have given me a greater understanding of who he was. He sounded like such a wonderful person and was loved and respected by many. Know that your son has left a lasting impression on many hearts, and that he will never be forgotten by those that knew him and those that did not. He fought for freedom and the things that as Americans we sometimes take for granted. I want to thank you for raising such a wonderful son and soldier. I will keep all of you in my prayers.
