David was always a blast to be around. I attempted to teach him to ski on a Jump Master MTT to Alaska. If you have never seen a South Georgia Boy on snow skis, well, let me tell you, It was a riot! I think of him quite often and the fun we had on our overseas adventures while we worked at the Jump Master Branch. Thanks Salie for all your hard work and dedication. RIP my friend, you are missed.

SFC David Salie will always be remembered for his sacrifice so that we may live in freedom. His family has also sacrificed, as they no longer have him near. But he is never forgotten. David followed in the foot steps of his Grandfather, and his father, who both made a career of the Military and his brother, who continues to serve our country. For all of your service and sacrifices we thank you.

There is nothing that I can say or do to take away the pain or bring you peace in your time of sorrow, but I will offer you and your family my heart felt condolences. I also offer you my prayers that in time the pain will easy and the memories of your HERO will carry you through each day and night. I want to thank your HERO, for his/her selfless act of becoming a member of the armed forces, his/her willingness to defend the United States of America, all that we hold sacred and for the sacrifice that will forever be etched in the memories of all those who knew him/her. Though tears can never bring him/her back, we hope that our tears express our gratitude for the sacrifice that he/she made and our sorrow at his/her passing. I believe for every fallen HERO there is a star shining brightly up above to remind us of the precious gift we were given.

Your mission on earth is complete and you are now a member of GOD’s Heavenly armed forces. Stand down brave warrior and take your rightful place in Heaven with all the HEROES who have passed before.

I made a special promise to LE RON A. WILSON, a dear family friend who joined the Army with three other friends, one of whom is my son (Le Ron was killed in action on 07/06/07 at the age of 18) on the day he was laid to rest as I touched his coffin, that I would never forget him nor would I forget those that gave their lives for our country before him, with him and after him and so when I came across www.legacy.com, I thought what a great way to keep my promise to Le Ron, so I will continue to leave tributes in each guest book until the day there is no longer the need to leave these tributes to a FALLEN HERO.

REST IN PEACE, HERO, YOU WILL NEVER BE FORGOTTEN!!

I went to school with David, we were in the same JROTC class and we were in the same after school Raider group. We went on many camping trips and it was no surprise that we were all bound for the military. Many of us selected the infantry, David and I were in the same platoon in basic training.

David had great leadership qualities and an ability to get folks to follow no matter the direction. He taught me more about camping and being prepared than any instructor/teacher I've ever known and this as a kid in high school. We had a lot of fun and you could tell that David was born for the field. Always prepared for our outings with everything from fireworks to cigars...it was never dull.

I lost touch with almost everyone from high school and later the military. I was looking up David to drop him a line when I came across the web site honoring him and a touching piece written by his wife. It is hard to believe how we are all spun out into the world and time passes faster than we know. I am glad that David found happiness in life and I pray for his wife and children. I will not forget David or the 17 years of service that he gave to us and our country.

Harder

He left
I cried
It felt like something died inside
Blowing kisses
Tearful goodbyes
People crying over lost time
Goodbye to the guys
Leaving us to fight
In what he thought was right
Home again
But he’s not here
The thought only brought me to tears
Valentines Day
A day to cherish loves
This year only bring that loss of one
Never again will I see his face
Or his smile
Or hear his laugh
It’s just all so hard to grasp
I cry at night at the thought of what used to be right
Now it’s all wrong
This world I live in
I have no dad
No one to fill in
It only gets harder
To live this way
To not have a dad
He is now gone away
I have lived through this pain
The suffering
And hurt
I live to say
It only gets harder
When you loose the one you love
It never stops hurting
When you think of the one you lost
But remember
It only get harder

Psalm 23

1

The LORD is my shepherd, I shall not be in want.

2

He makes me lie down in green pastures, he leads me beside quiet waters,

3

He restores my soul. He guides me in paths of righteousness for his name's sake.

4

Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me.

5

You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies. You anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows.

6

Surely goodness and love will follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the LORD forever.

This is a verse that I have found to be comforting to me during my husbands death. Remember that when it seems that no one else is round, God is still there with you! And he will be your rock!

My daughter,McKaLyne, and I send our heartfelt sympathy for your loss! God Bless this warrior, God Bless those whom serve freedom's cause! They are our true HERO's!!!!

I have just learned of the death of SFC David J. Sallie. As the State Chaplain of the Georgia Sons Of The American Revolution and speaking for our President, George Thurmond and more than 1,400 SAR members around the State of Georgia, may I most humbly express the condolences of a grateful Society. SFC Sallie, wrapped in the integrity of service to our nation and the inestimable values of duty, honor and country, stood on a wall of freedom for us all. His life and his love of country epitomized every attribute of patriotism the Sons Of The American Revolution hold dear. And, as Americans, we could never repay the debt we owe him ..!! Nor the debt we owe you… his family!!!

To the family of Sgt. Salie, I want to express my deepest condolences over the loss of this brave, young soldier. Having a father who fought in World War II and a sweetheart killed in Quang Tin, Vietnam, I found it was time to give something back. I am about to receive my master's degree in counseling, and I am dedicating that degree and myself for the rest of my life to serving our soldiers, veterans, and their families. It will be an honor to do so. May God uphold you with His comfort during the burden of your grief.

Dear Salie Family, From the moment we met your husband and father, we knew he was what you call a good, old-fashioned leader. The Harris family - Rick, Lucy, and Noah all agree that when he spoke, everyone listened, and I am sure that you all had the same experience. He was and always will be larger than life - a true American hero. As you struggle to live on without him but FOR him, when times get tough, remember to close your eyes and you will hear him urge, "Drive on!" The best is yet to come; and we know that you will each find your talents, develop them, and share them to make the world a better place - just like Sgt. Salie. We will honor all of you in our prayers everyday, Rick, Lucy, and Noah Harris

Dear Salie family, I never met your great husband and father, but have read much about him in the Columbus paper. He no doubt was a wonderful leader and example for his men. You must miss him greatly but I hope your three children will know that people in Columbus, including me, thank him for his gallant efforts in behalf of our country. Your children will always know that so many people admired him and thank him for his sacrifice. I can hardly imagine how difficult it must be for you, as the Mother of three young children, to raise them without their Dad. I will continue to pray for all your family. Donnie

To the Salie family, my husband served with your husband in Iraq and SFC Salie was an excellent soldier and comrade to all the fellow NCOs of B CO, 2/69. Your husband is a hero and we will never forget him. I send my condolensces to you and the kids. My husband, SSG Rogers, told me what an honor it was to have served with such a wonderful, dedicated soldier. He was the soldier's soldier, and all looked to emulate him. God Bless you and your family and know that you will always be in our thoughts and prayers.

To the Salie Family

I met David only one day before his deployment. My son wanted me to meet him. I will never forget what he told me that day. Lets go over there, get the job done and come home. When I was in the Army I would have wanted such a man as David for my platoon sgt. He will be missed. May God bless you and your children.

Dear Deedy and the Salie family. I would like to comment on how much of a strong woman you are. We've never met before, but I feel as though we are family. My husband served in Iraq with your husband and still to this day he wears his bracelet all the time. Ryan said he was a great guy, a great leader. I'll always have you and your children in my prayers. God Bless you always and take care.

May God continually Bless you and the children. May God's love rain down and heal any open wounds you may have. I pray for all the soldiers, including my husband who served with your husband, and their families. He has done a great and noble thing and that's help in the fight for our freedom so be proud and keep your head up. I love you from one military spouse to another fighting the same fight. God Bless You FOREVER

Deedy, we have never met or spoken to each other, however my son Jovan Clayton was serving with Sgt. Salie. Jovan was so saddened by your lost and expresses how much he misses Sgt. Salie often. There was such a high level of love and respect from and for the teAAm or should I say family...My prayers will always be for great health, high spirits and close family and friendships for you and the children. My son is still in Iraq and Sgt. Salie is with him daily...

Deede, I hope you were able to hear and see the dedication ceremony yesterday. I thought it was very nice. H6 focused his remarks on all the Soldiers who have sacrificed during OIF 1 and III and I tried to focus mine on David. At the end of it I was approached by a lot of people who wanted me to tell you how much they enjoyed the letter you had written which I read during my remarks. Your words were wonderful; I am not a gifted speaker so I was glad you had added some eloquence to my part. The guys from KBR truly did a magnificent job with the mural. There is a large one outside the facility, one that will hang inside, and one they are crating up and sending back home to you. They truly poured their hearts into this project and have a donation they wanted deposited into the kids trust fund. I had not seen the mural until SFC Finch and I unveiled it. It really affected me right before I had to talk. The part that tore me up was from the photo from family day when David and the boys are walking hand-in-hand. Hard to believe it’s been three months. We continue to take the fight to the enemy and the lives of the Iraqi people are getting better each day. David is with us always and you and the kids are in our prayers.

Dear Salie Family,

I never had the honor of meeting your husband/father, but I have only heard wonderful things about him, and the way he touched our son. Our son served with Sgt. Salie and was inspired by his committment and professionalism. May you find peace in your lives, for you have paid the ultimate sacrifice.

God Bless you and yours,

To the Salie family

As we celebrate memorial day this up coming weekend, our thoughts and prayers are with you @ your family.

We are thankful for each soldier that has given up their freedom for our freedom. The least we can do is to pray for the many families that have lost loved ones in war.

With Love,
