Daniel Johnson Obituary

Daniel James Johnson

March 1, 1936 - February 2, 2026

Box Springs, Georgia - Daniel James Johnson, lovingly known as Jim, went home to be with his Lord at the age of 89.

Jim was born on March 1, 1936, in Cairo, Illinois, to Thomas Daniel Johnson and Corrine Johnson. From the beginning, his life was shaped by faith, hard work, and a quiet devotion to doing what was right. These values guided him through every season of life and were evident in the way he loved, worked, and served others.

Jim proudly served his country in the United States Air Force for five years, a commitment that reflected his strong sense of duty and responsibility. Following his military service, he dedicated his career to Georgia Power, where he was respected for his strong work ethic, dependability, and integrity. Jim often worked two jobs so that his beloved wife, Joan, could stay home to care for their family and raise their children-an enduring testament to his selflessness and devotion to his family.

After his retirement, Jim and Joan continued their lifelong commitment to service as dedicated Georgia Power Ambassadors, generously giving their time and energy to support both the company and the community. Jim also volunteered faithfully at Georgia Baptist Hospital, where he lovingly took baby pictures every other weekend, bringing joy to countless families during life's earliest moments.

Jim was an active and faithful member of every church congregation he and Joan belonged to, most recently Upatoi Community Church. Together, they were deeply involved in church life, serving in the church choir, teaching Sunday School classes, and leading congregational singing.

Jim was also a devoted member of The Gideons, passionate about sharing God's Word and supporting the ministry's mission. His faith was not only spoken but lived-through service, fellowship, worship, and praise.

A man of deep faith, Jim trusted fully in God's promises. He lived with humility and grace, offering a steady presence and gentle spirit to those around him. His faith was the foundation of his life and a source of comfort to all who knew him.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas Daniel Johnson and Corrine Johnson, as well as his cherished daughter, Kathryn Panarelli.

He is survived by his loving wife, Joan Johnson; his sons, Danny Johnson (Lisa), Tommy Johnson (Kathryn), and Mike Johnson (Jenilyn); his siblings, Tom Johnson (Margaret), John Johnson, Bill Johnson (Shirley), and Ruth Cipolla; his grandchildren, Tonya Bowie (Canyon), Rich Catrett, Andy Panarelli (Alex), Ann-Marie Panarelli, Kevin Johnson (Laura), Brian Johnson, Chris Johnson (Tracy), Sarah Raymer (David), Anna Plyler (Giles), Julianna Mead (Justin), and Wesley Johnson; and 14 great-grandchildren, who were a tremendous joy and blessing in his life.

A Celebration of Life service will be held on Thursday, February 5th, at Upatoi Community Church, located at 13730 Macon Rd., Upatoi, Georgia, where family and friends will gather to honor Jim's life and celebrate the hope we have through Christ.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Columbus Hospice, in appreciation for their compassionate care.

Though Jim will be deeply missed, we find comfort in knowing he is now at peace, reunited with loved ones, and resting in the presence of his Savior-hearing the words, "Well done, good and faithful servant."
