To the family of Charles Warren,
I learned of the passing of Charlie a couple of years ago. we went to high school together, we always called him Charlie.
I think about him periodically, it sounds like he had become a great man. I apologize in being slow to offer my sympathies.
We played soccer and were on the wrestling team together.
I hadn't talked to him since school but I liked him then. Just thought I would take a moment to tell him thanks for giving all he had.

i was a soldier in SSG Warren squad . i was home on leave and when the news hit me that i lost sgt warren i was devastated. i instantly went out and got a tattoo to remember him and the other guys that were lost that day. SSG Warren was a very good guy . I could always go to him to talk and he would always provide good advice. The world truly lost a great guy . SSG Warren u will always be in our thoughts and prayers.

Holding you all in my thoughts and prayers.
The Wind on The Downs
“I like to think of you as brown and tall,
As strong and living as you used to be,
In khaki tunic, Sam Brown belt and all,
And standing there and laughing down at me.
Because they tell me, dear, that you are dead,
Because I can no longer see your face,
You have not died, it is not true, instead
You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe;
I hear you laughing as you used to do,
Yet loving all the things I think of you;
And knowing you are happy, should I grieve?
You follow and are watchful where I go.”
(Written by Marian Allen during World War l )
Two lines that I wish you to keep near your heart…….
“You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe”
I did not know Charles, but I am remembering
his service. He is my hero. !

The Other Side
i'm over on the other side
where life and death softly divide.
left my skin and bones behind
now i'm over on the other side.
can you feel me there with you?
my breath is gone but i'm not through.
loved you then and i still do
from over on the other side.
i can fly. really fly.
below the earth ... all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.
it's good here on the other side.
the sweetest songs...the bluest skies.
thank you for the tears you cried
but it's good here on the other side.
i can fly. really fly. below the earth...all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side
the world is smaller than a needle's eye.
where life and death softly divide.
when you leave your skin and bones behind
i'll be waiting on the other side.
i can fly. really fly. below the earth ... all through the sky.
go tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

On this Memorial Day weekend, my thoughts are immediately of Charles and the entire Warren family.
You are always in my thoughts and prayers -- and I hope you know how many people love you and pray for you. I hope that during times of difficulty, you allow others to help raise you up and remind you of the amazing person Charles was and that he lives on in each and every one of you.
God Bless You -- God Bless our soldiers and keep them safe -- and God Bless America.
With Love,

Carol,
I cry for you, but I have learned never to question God. He is the "giver and taker" of life. I am trusting God to restore your joy!
May the Angels of God be forever encamped around you and Madeline!
I will FOREVER "Salute" Sgt. Charles H. Warren!

To your family,
I think of you often. Your soldiers funeral was the day after my sons, at St. Benedict. At the time I had one brother stationed in Iraq and one who had just returned. My son, Michael, would have been so proud to know of your husband. He was so proud of his uncles and their service. I like to think they know each other in heaven. As I said, I think of your family often and hope you are doing ok.
Sincerely,
Mary Gallagher

There is nothing that I can say or do to take away the pain or bring you peace in your time of sorrow, but I will offer you and your family my heart felt condolences. I also offer you my prayers that in time the pain will easy and the memories of your HERO will carry you through each day and night. I want to thank your HERO, for his/her selfless act of becoming a member of the armed forces, his/her willingness to defend the United States of America, all that we hold sacred and for the sacrifice that will forever be etched in the memories of all those who knew him/her. Though tears can never bring him/her back, we hope that our tears express our gratitude for the sacrifice that he/she made and our sorrow at his/her passing. I believe for every fallen HERO there is a star shining brightly up above to remind us of the precious gift we were given.
Your mission on earth is complete and you are now a member of GOD’s Heavenly armed forces. Stand down brave warrior and take your rightful place in Heaven with all the HEROES who have passed before.
I made a special promise to LE RON A. WILSON, a dear family friend who joined the Army with three other friends, one of whom is my son (Le Ron was killed in action on 07/06/07 at the age of 18) on the day he was laid to rest as I touched his coffin, that I would never forget him nor would I forget those that gave their lives for our country before him, with him and after him and so when I came across www.legacy.com, I thought what a great way to keep my promise to Le Ron, so I will continue to leave tributes in each guest book until the day there is no longer the need to leave these tributes to a FALLEN HERO.
REST IN PEACE, HERO, YOU WILL NEVER BE FORGOTTEN!!

I posted an entry almost 7 months ago. Since then the company that i work for made a donation to the Emory Winship Cancer Clinic on behalf of Charles. A garden is in the finishing stages of being completed that contains a brick in memory of Charles. The brick has been placed in the garden. The garden will be open soon and serves as a place of reflection for cancer patients. I saw this as fitting since Charles worked with termianly ill Children at Egleston. The Garden is located at 1365A Clifton Road Atlanta Ga Emory Clinic A

I would like to express my deepest sympathies to the Warren family. I am fortunate enough to have called Charles my friend through high school. I was a frequent visitor to the Warren household -- and sadly lost touch with the family when we moved. I cannot imagine the pain you are going through and I just want you to know that we are praying for you. May God Bless Your Family.

I had the unexpected honor of meeeting Charles this past spring. I was the nurse on one night who was taking care of Sarai's twins. "Uncle" Charles was so happy to have the opportunity to come meet his new nephews before leaving for his tour of duty to protect them & all of us.
We spoke only briefly, talked of nursing and his call to duty. I did remind him to thank everyone he met in Iraq for their sacrifice. He had a pleasant smile & warm handshake and was "ready" though it meant many sacrifices of his own. I am so saddend by this news of his passing and so grateful to have been touched by someone so unselfish on this brief encounter.
Your whole family is in my thoughts & prayers for peace in your memories of Charles. Thank you for his sacrifice & yours.

I have just learned of the death of Sgt. Charles H. Warren. As the State Chaplain of the Georgia Sons Of The American Revolution and speaking for our President, George Thurmond and more than 1,400 SAR members around the State of Georgia, may I most humbly express the condolences of a grateful Society. Sgt. Warren, wrapped in the integrity of service to our nation and the inestimable values of duty, honor and country, stood on a wall of freedom for us all. His life and his love of country epitomized every attribute of patriotism the Sons Of The American Revolution hold dear. And, as Americans, we could never repay the debt we owe him ..!! Nor the debt we owe you… his family!!!

I never had the opportunity to meet Charles, but I am a resident of Duluth, and extend my deepest sympathy to his family. I am very grateful for his sacrifice and service to his country in the fight against terrorism. I had met Sarai and her husband when their twins were born, and I wish to express my sympathy to her family as well. You are all in our thoughts and prayers, and the prayers of the Duluth community.

Our thoughts and prayers are with you and all the Warren family at this time. We first met Charles, Alex and other members of the Warren family in London in 1986. We transferred to the Washington DC area about the same time they did in 1989. Charles and Alex spent a lot of time at our home and we were always happy to see them. Charles always had a big warm smile and had a way about him that brightened up your day. We know that his spirit is in heaven with other Army heroes. He will always be in our hearts and we will continue to offer prayers for him and his family.

Charles was my sponsor while I was going throught the RCIA program at St. Benedicts Catholic Church. Unfortunately I have not seen or spoken to Charles or Carol in sometime. I learned of the atrocity that occured 8/03/05 while watching the evening news and I was shaken to the core. Charles was one of the friendliest most caring persons that I have ever had the fortune of being acquainted with. My heart goes out to Carol, Jackson and Madeline. I can not even begin to understand the feeling of the magnitude of the loss and sacrafice that they have suffered and will have to endure. However, I do know that Charles touched the lives of many and heaven is now a better place due to the grace of his presence. God bless you and your family Charles. You will be missed.

For 20 Ohio Marines
Did you feel the wave of sympathy
surging across the Pennsylvania line
and out to you,
the families left behind?
We know.
For we saw your boys
here among ours,
at High School proms
in cars, in shopping malls,
in churches, at picnics
and on the curb
at parades on July 4th
watching veterans
of other wars,
saluting them with gratitude.
We saw them at gates
leaving wives and families,
grandparents
and forlorn young girls--
turning to leave
with head held high,
looking back one last time.
We know them.
For yours are ours.
