Not sure what to say?

To the family of Charles Warren,
I learned of the passing of Charlie a couple of years ago. we went to high school together, we always called him Charlie.
I think about him periodically, it sounds like he had become a great man. I apologize in being slow to offer my sympathies.
We played soccer and were on the wrestling team together.
I hadn't talked to him since school but I liked him then. Just thought I would take a moment to tell him thanks for giving all he had.

sfc warren was my squad leader in IRAQ. it was a sad day for me when i heard this had happened . i had just landed home on leave and couldnt enjoy it due to my thoughts of him . even reading this after 7 yrs still brings a tear to my eye. he was a great friend and a very level headed individual to talk to .
