I knew Joshua and his brother Samuel when they were just little kids. My husband and kids attended the church that their father Tommy was the preacher at. Joshua was such a wonderful child. Very respectful and just a joy to be around. I learned about his death years ago from the church we were attending at the time. I was heart broken. Now my 20 year old son is about to be deployed to Afghanistan next month. I can not imagine the heart ache that his dad Tommy and mom Karen feel. I take comfort knowing that Joshua died doing what he loved. Much love to all of you and hope that time has helped to ease your pain even if it's just a little bit.

Unfortunately it has taken me this long to write about SPC Dingler. I went to high school with him, was in JROTC with him, and still hold onto a photo with me, him and a couple other "Pickles" that we took while yearbook pictures were being made. I myself have served in the Army and now the Georgia Guard, and it sickens me to know that such a wonderful soldier, friend and brother is no longer among us. He is missed by many.

Dear Dinglers, I attended the Freedom Concert in Atlanta Sat. night and was so pleased at the support given to veterans and their families. They had Seth Sharpe's family on the stage and pictures of him displayed. Billy Ray Cyrus sang "Some Gave All", a beautiful song written long before Joshua was killed, but it still holds true, every lyric in the song brings honor to those that paid the ultimate price like Joshua. He may not be here but he is NOT forgotten. I will continue to pray for your family.

To the family and loved ones of Spc. Joshua P. Dingler. I am a Ride Captain with the Patriot Guard Riders (PGR) of Georgia. I wanted to let you know that Joshua is one of my hero's that I think of often. The PGR was not yet formed at the time of Joshua's passing but I was able to stand for for him as he passed through town. I wanted to take this oportunity to thank Joshua for keeping my family and my country safe. I know in my heart that he now rests in our Lord's Special House for hero's for that is exactly what he is, A HERO. You are all in my thoughts and prayers.

Holding you all in my thoughts and prayers.

The Wind on The Downs

“I like to think of you as brown and tall,
As strong and living as you used to be,
In khaki tunic, Sam Brown belt and all,
And standing there and laughing down at me.
Because they tell me, dear, that you are dead,
Because I can no longer see your face,
You have not died, it is not true, instead
You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe;
I hear you laughing as you used to do,
Yet loving all the things I think of you;
And knowing you are happy, should I grieve?
You follow and are watchful where I go.”

(Written by Marian Allen during World War l )

Two lines that I wish you to keep near your heart…….

“You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe”

I did not know Joshua, but I am remembering
his service. He is my hero. !

The Other Side

i'm over on the other side
where life and death softly divide.
left my skin and bones behind
now i'm over on the other side.

can you feel me there with you?
my breath is gone but i'm not through.
loved you then and i still do
from over on the other side.

i can fly. really fly.
below the earth ... all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

it's good here on the other side.
the sweetest songs...the bluest skies.
thank you for the tears you cried
but it's good here on the other side.

i can fly. really fly. below the earth...all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side

the world is smaller than a needle's eye.
where life and death softly divide.
when you leave your skin and bones behind
i'll be waiting on the other side.

i can fly. really fly. below the earth ... all through the sky.
go tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

August 16, 2007

There is nothing that I can say or do to take away the pain or bring you peace in your time of sorrow, but I will offer you and your family my heart felt condolences. I also offer you my prayers that in time the pain will easy and the memories of your HERO will carry you through each day and night. I want to thank your HERO, for his/her selfless act of becoming a member of the armed forces, his/her willingness to defend the United States of America, all that we hold sacred and for the sacrifice that will forever be etched in the memories of all those who knew him/her. Though tears can never bring him/her back, we hope that our tears express our gratitude for the sacrifice that he/she made and our sorrow at his/her passing. I believe for every fallen HERO there is a star shining brightly up above to remind us of the precious gift we were given.

Your mission on earth is complete and you are now a member of GOD’s Heavenly armed forces. Stand down brave warrior and take your rightful place in Heaven with all the HEROES who have passed before.

I made a special promise to LE RON A. WILSON, a dear family friend who joined the Army with three other friends, one of whom is my son (Le Ron was killed in action on 07/06/07 at the age of 18) on the day he was laid to rest as I touched his coffin, that I would never forget him nor would I forget those that gave their lives for our country before him, with him and after him and so when I came across www.legacy.com, I thought what a great way to keep my promise to Le Ron, so I will continue to leave tributes in each guest book until the day there is no longer the need to leave these tributes to a FALLEN HERO.

REST IN PEACE, HERO, YOU WILL NEVER BE FORGOTTEN!!

A sweet demeanor, a wonderful sense of humor, and a goofy smile that was contagious. Josh will be missed no doubt about it, but I consider myself lucky for having been able to get to know him the short amount of time he was here. Karen and Tommy Dingler, I thank you for raising such a great person, and I know you're going to do just as an amazing job with your other son if not more. God bless.

Dear Brother Tommy & Sister Karen,

I stumble at the words to express my grief and deep sorrow for your son’s unexpected absence from this earthly life. I know you take great comfort in knowing that he is in the presence of our LORD Jesus Christ, Whom Josh loved and served. That is our comfort. That is our hope – a SURE hope I might add.

I know, because of your faithful commitment to the same LORD, that “I’m preaching to the choir,” but I thought I would say it anyway. I know that you will rely on His grace to comfort and strengthen you. I also want you to know that there have been many folks that you do not know praying for y’all, including my wife Caryla, and me.

You and your family have been lifted before our Loving Lord by your family of faith and friends at New Canaan Baptist. Sunday School Classes as well as the Prayer Meeting have voiced their requests on your behalf to our beneficent God and Father.

The memorials and tributes at

www.donnafiducia.com/military.htm

have done a commendable job and service in remembering your son, our friend, America’s Hero, and God’s Child, SPC. JOSHUA P. DINGLER.

And the special write up in the editorial section of The Christian Index was so appropriate!

I salute Josh. I will remember him. I will honor his name. I will salute the flag he fought for with more attention and dignity. I will be more grateful for this land in which I live and worship. And I look forward to seeing him again to express my love and appreciation once more.

Brother Tommy, I commend you and your entire family to our wonderful Lord Jesus Christ. I want to thank you for how all of you have given so sacrificially in helping others. I am grateful for your latest interest and ministry in wanting to benefit so many American families. The ministry of SafeEyes is a revolutionary idea that I think every concerned parent and teen needs to seriously consider.

Again, as the example you and your family are, you continue to give for the benefit of others, including the ultimate gift of your son, AND FOR THAT I AM ETERNALLY GRATEFUL AND INDEBTED TO YOU.

Please accept my most inadequate, but most sincere, words of Christian Sympathy and Love for you and your precious wife Karen, and equally precious family.

Josh has preceded us to The Father. It is just like him to continue to LEAD THE WAY.

In Christ’s love, I am,

Your Brother in Christ,

GaWanda Slate

I was pleased to see this as I was looking on the defense web site for information on Joshua. My sister was very close to Tommy and Karen and has come from Canada to stand by their side in this need for support which I commend. Tommy and Karen are very proud of the community and others for their support to them. I myself was not aware of the compassion that we americans have, it is not used as much anymore. This memorial guest book moves me. God is smiling upon those that have come together to support and fellowship with our brothers and sisters in their time of need. God bless you all. God bless Tommy and Karen and Samuel, they know that their son was loved by more than just a few. May God remain in your lives and speak through you to others that need to hear.
Thank You to all

Tommy, Karen, and Samuel ~There are so many places on the web offering information about Joshua as well as your family. I know you may never see this guestbook but that's ok because even more than reading and/or re-reading words of love, encouragement, condolence, etc. my prayers for your family are the best I have to offer. Along with myself; my family and church family (First Baptist~Palm River) we are uplifting your entire family as well as the hearts of those your loving son Joshua had a special way of touching. We are encouraged that the Lord will continue to bless you and your family as you continue to faithfully serve Him. My love to you all through the love of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

Dear Tommy and Family,

How can I begin to console you? Thankfully, all meaningful comfort comes from the Lord. No parent should ever have to endure this heartache and I pray for your solace.

As your Quaker Friend, I am honored to hold Joshua and all who loved him in the Light. My wish is that you'll feel the warmth and peace that only the Light can give.

What honor and glory awaits Joshua in heaven! The word "Hero" doesn't even begin to define him.

All my sympathy,

I was just reading last night in the Bible, John 15:13 that there is no greater love than to lay down your life for a friend and that is exactly what Josh did. He made the ultimate sacrifice, our freedom isn't free, it comes with a high price. God is our refuge and strength.

I have just learned of the death of Spc. Joshua Dingler. As the State Chaplain of the Georgia Sons Of The American Revolution and speaking for our President, George Thurmond and more than 1,400 SAR members around the State of Georgia, may I most humbly express the condolences of a grateful Society. Spc. Dingler, wrapped in the integrity of service to our nation and the inestimable values of duty, honor and country, stood on a wall of freedom for us all. His life and his love of country epitomized every attribute of patriotism the Sons Of The American Revolution hold dear. And, as Americans, we could never repay the debt we owe him ..!! Nor the debt we owe you…!!!
