SSG Nelom you were the best NCO I have ever had in the Army. I am at 12 years now and it has been 5 years now since you left our world and went to a better place. I know you are looking down on your second set of children us soldiers and watching ova us. I miss you everyday and think about you on regular basis. You were such a great seargent, your first and only priority was always the well being of your soldiers. You embodied qualities that I strive to obtain one day and your passing was devastating. Losing you was like losing a family member; you were larger than life. There is something special and rare about people like you, your ability to care, to be able to impact the lives of so many, to never have a bad day and if you did have one to never show it because you spent your time making sure others were ok. Having come back from my third tour in Iraq theres not a day goes by that I dont think of SSG Nelom....he was my friend and he never judged me....My loss was great but your loss even after these few years that have gone by has got to be inconsolable...I only hope that there are days when you feel him looking down on you and peace fills your soul with that knowledge

I don't pretend to know what to say or do that would bring you peace in your time of sorrow, but I will offer my heart felt condolences. I also offer you my prayers that in time the pain will easy and the memories of your HERO will carry you through each day and night. I want to thank your HERO, for his/her selfless act of becoming a member of the armed forces, his/her willingness to defend the United States of America, all that we hold sacred and for the sacrifice that will forever be etched in the memories of all those who knew him/her. SSG Nelom I know that you were looking down on us when we had your 1 year memorial service. It brought back so many feelings in all of us soldiers. I had the honor to give the soldier's tribute and i felt you with me while I was talking about the GREATEST NCO in the army and a great person. It was hard for me to talk about you in the past tense so everything was told in the present. Cause like i said in my speech, you may not be with us physically but you are never going to be gone from us. You are here in our everyday lives. We miss you so much but we continue your legacy by talking about you and remembering you everyday. YOU ARE TRULY MISSED AND THOUGHT ABOUT EVERYDAY. R.I.P. SSG Nelom, I am really upset and hurt that you are gone. Carter is really, really devastated because all he keeps saying is how much you cared about him. We keep replaying the news over and over in our heads hoping it isnt true. We think of you every single day. I was just thinking how Carter use to make me so upset at times and you would tell me how youll get him for me with your big grin. I know that Cosom will grieve over you forever and I swear that your life would not be just a memory. I promise you. Thanks for keeping us in line.

Although I have not had the privilege of serving with SSG Nelom, I have heard nothing but wonderful things about him from the soldiers with whom he serve. I know that Army has suffered a great loss, and the Heavens just got a little bit better when SSG Nelom entered. You see I lost my only son when he was one month away from his 22nd birthday. That was in 1980. I know the pain and the sorrow that you feel.
I know in time the awful hurting inside of you will heal. I know right now it’s hard to Imagine that life can even go on. I can’t imagine anything worse then losing a child.
I am a Christian and I know that God’s strength saw me and my husband through. There were many days we just didn’t want to go on, but He was always there to help us.

May God bless you in a very special way, as He took a very special person from this world to be with Him. I thank God every day for men like your son who are willing to fight for our freedom and the freedom of oppressed nations. I know Regilio has made a difference in every life he has touched.
Remember, John 3:16 says “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should nor perish but have everlasting life.”
At Death of a Child
