Hello,
We would like to express our deepest condolences and also let the Allen Family and friends know that we will be sending Care Packages to deployed troops this week and we'll be dedicating several of these to your loved one. Each package will carry the name, photo and the hometown of Howard Paul Allen US Army Sergeant. We realize that this is a small tribute, but we do this with all respect and sincerity and we want you to know that it is made possible by thousands of like-minded individuals from across the American youth hockey community. We will not forget. May God Bless you and keep you safe and strong.

Sincerely,

Holding you all in my thoughts and prayers.

The Wind on The Downs

“I like to think of you as brown and tall,
As strong and living as you used to be,
In khaki tunic, Sam Brown belt and all,
And standing there and laughing down at me.
Because they tell me, dear, that you are dead,
Because I can no longer see your face,
You have not died, it is not true, instead
You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe;
I hear you laughing as you used to do,
Yet loving all the things I think of you;
And knowing you are happy, should I grieve?
You follow and are watchful where I go.”

(Written by Marian Allen during World War l )

Two lines that I wish you to keep near your heart…….

“You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe”

I did not know Paul, but I am remembering
his service. He is my hero. !

The Other Side

i'm over on the other side
where life and death softly divide.
left my skin and bones behind
now i'm over on the other side.

can you feel me there with you?
my breath is gone but i'm not through.
loved you then and i still do
from over on the other side.

i can fly. really fly.
below the earth ... all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

it's good here on the other side.
the sweetest songs...the bluest skies.
thank you for the tears you cried
but it's good here on the other side.

i can fly. really fly. below the earth...all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side

the world is smaller than a needle's eye.
where life and death softly divide.
when you leave your skin and bones behind
i'll be waiting on the other side.

i can fly. really fly. below the earth ... all through the sky.
go tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

If this person can stand in battle to ensure my freedom, then I will stand in grief with his/her family to honor him/her. For every fallen HERO there is a bright star that shines in the evening sky to remind us of the cherished gift we were given – even if for too short a time.
My heart breaks again as I sign yet another guest book of another courageous young soldier who gave their life so selflessly. I wish I never found myself in a position to have to sign another guest book for the rest of my life, but I promised LE RON A. WILSON (a dear friend KIA 7/6/07, 18yrs old) that neither he nor any like him would be forgotten and so I will continue until the day there is no longer the need.

April 29, 2007

To my dearest family, some things I'd like to say...
but first of all, to let you know, that I arrived okay.
I'm writing this from heaven. Here I dwell with God above.
Here, there's no more tears of sadness; here is just eternal love.

Please do not be unhappy just because I'm out of sight.
Remember that I'm with you every morning, noon and night.
That day I had to leave you when my life on earth was through,
God picked me up and hugged me and He said, "I welcome you."

It's good to have you back again; you were missed while you were gone.
As for your dearest family, they'll be here later on.
I need you here badly; you're part of my plan.
There's so much that we have to do, to help our mortal man."

God gave me a list of things, that he wished for me to do.
And foremost on the list, was to watch and care for you.
And when you lie in bed at night, the day's chores put to flight.
God and I are closest to you....in the middle of the night.

When you think of my life on earth, and all those loving years
because you are only human, they are bound to bring you tears.
But do not be afraid to cry; it does relieve the pain.
Remember there would be no flowers, unless there was some rain.

I wish that I could tell you all that God has planned.
But if I were to tell you, you wouldn't understand.
But one thing is for certain, though my life on earth is o'er.
I'm closer to you now, than I ever was before.

There are many rocky roads ahead of you and many hills to climb;
but together we can do it by taking one day at a time.
It was always my philosophy and I'd like it for you too...
that as you give unto the world, the world will give to you.

If you can help somebody who's in sorrow and pain,
then you can say to God at night......"My day was not in vain."
And now I am contented....that my life has been worthwhile,
knowing as I passed along the way, I made somebody smile.

So if you meet somebody who is sad and feeling low,
just lend a hand to pick him up, as on your way you go.
When you're walking down the street, and you've got me on your mind;
I'm walking in your footsteps only half a step behind.

And when it's time for you to go.... from that body to be free,
remember you're not going.....you're coming here to me.

My dearest and first sister of the heart, Patience - and the kids, Edwin, Caitlyn & Devlin:

I can't believe that I've never written in this until now. I was sure I'd visited everywhere and signed everything. Sis, you know how much we are all hurting with you. And we know how difficult the 'firsts' of everything are for you this year, holidays, valentine's birthdays...

You are not alone. I am always with you in thought and spirit.

Paul made me laugh in times when I didn't think I could - he gave me advice on a level that I didn't have with anyone else - an introspective from someone who hadn't talked to me about it before. I valued every time I got to talk to him and was so happy for you all when you got married.

We have all been praying with you, and for him, since he was deployed. We continue to pray for you and the kids, now that he is watching over you.

Many hugs, sweetie. We love you.

My deepest condolences on the loss of a true hero. As a Veteran of the Army, I know full well that we are always faced with the ultimate sacrifice, however this does not make it easier. All we can do is pray for those left behind, as I now will at my Temple at Shabbat Services when the Mourners Kiddush is chanted. I will proudly add the name Howard Paul Allen to my friends and family who have passed. May G-d grant you peace and comfort.

Greetings to SGT Allen's family. I had the honor of serving with SGT Allen while we were assigned to the 1/180thFA. He and I are former sailors, and we both joined the 1/180th nearly the same time in the TryOne Program.

It was an honor serving with him and providing religious support to him while I was the unit Chaplain Assistant. I thoroughly enjoyed listening to SGT Allen reminisce about his days of submarine service.

I am so thankful my friend and I were able to visit with SGT Allen one afternoon while he was home on leave, because we did not know, he would be KIA a short time later in service to his country.

My heart grieves with that of his family. Truest blessings.

To the friends and Family

Paul was my roomate from the time we left Phx until that fateful day in Sept while driving on the most dangerous streets in the world like all Soldiers/Marines/Sailors/Air Force members do. Paul bacame to the world what those of use who know him already knew a selfless person who would do anything to make things easier for those around him. That day he gave his life so hopefully our would be without fear and hate in the future. He bacame a hero to the world. He made the ultimate sacrifice like so many others in the history of this great country of ours have. I was honored and greatful for the 15 months I knew Paul as a Soldier and will always think of him as a brother.

Paul would come back from missions and the first thing he did without fail would be to turn on his laptop so he could talk to Patience and the kids. I can still see him walking up to our room from the staging area and keep expecting him to open our door and say to me (Hi Honey how was your day at the war). Well my day at the war that day was the worst I have had since the day we left Phx......

I will miss him.

Patty, Paul's parents, and Robert

When I heard the word about Paul, I could not believe the news. Just when you think you are finally on the right path in life, you come upon a roadblock and have to take the detour. Let me share a poem I learned when I was in the third grade...

What is once loved,

Is yours from that day,

Take it home,

In your mind,

And nothing ever,

Can take it away.

...Elizabeth Coatsworth

Our prayers are with you all as you struggle with your grief. We here in Groton never even got to meet Paul. Patty, I still think of you as my daughter-in-law and of Paul as a "son-in-law-extended".

I am grateful I had the opportunity to know Paul if only for a short time in Cub Scouts. He came to Scouts in his desire to be a part of Edwin's life. At a time when leadership faltered, Paul stepped in as Den Leader, provided stability and made Scouting possible for several young boys. He was always reliable and was willing to help in any way. I enjoyed working with him and came to have a great respect him. I remember his great love for Patience, his deep desire to be a good father to Caitlyn and Edwin, how proud he was when Devlin was born, his decision to enter the reserves to help care for them. Often as a Den Leader he would repeat with the boys those tenets of Cub Scouting - Duty to God and Country, Helping other people - and Doing Your Best.

Paul lived those principles and made a difference. I will always think of him that way.

My deepest Sympathy to the family of Sgt. Allen. He is a hero and will be missed by the country he served. My son Nathan, a Navy Corpsman, was killed in Iraq on September 6, 2005. I had hoped he would be the last. My heart breaks for you. Nathan left his 25 year old wife and 11 month old daughter for us to look after. They also live in Mesa, just a couple of miles from you. May God bless and keep you and may He give you strength for tomorrow and the future you have in front of you.

My Dear Paitence

My heart is with you this week as always. No words can express my sympathy nor ease your pain. Just remember, you're not alone. If I could come home to Arizona to stand with you, I would in a heartbeat. We all love you and will watch over you. Just as Paul is doing now. Keep his memory alive through your children. That's the best gift you could ever share.

Lots of Love

Patience,

While no words will ever be able to express the feelings of love, sorrow, compassion and sympathy my heart feels for you and the children I hope that you can take some comfort in the fact that Paul will be remembered as a sweet, funny, wonderful person. In the minds and hearts of all who knew him he will remain forever young. I will do my part to honor his memory by always being there for you and your children in whatever capacity you may need. Know that my thoughts are with you and find strength in knowing how very much YOU are loved!

I didn't personally know Paul, but a number of my close friends did. I was informed of the sad news last week by a mutual friend, who made me aware that he had been part of the large, extended Rocky Horror family in the Valley back in the 1990s. As I regard all such persons as kindred, I do indeed grieve at the loss, and my heart truly goes out in sympathy to his family and friends. Having lost my father two months ago, I can truly understand to at least some degree what you are going through. In any case, I am planning to put a memorial to him on our web page (it will be at http://www.azrocky.com/memorium.htm

l when it's ready), and anyone who wants to share photos, anecdotes or reminscenses that would be appropriate can feel free to contact me, and if there is anything else I can do, please let me know. Take comfort in the knowledge that he is not in pain, he is at peace, and he is in a better place--and you will all meet again.

Genuine Love

To the family and friends of Howard, may your pain at the loss of your loved one lessen each day. Be assured if he knew the Lord, as well as you, you will be together again. There, where there is no more fear, pain, or worry. He will walk with the Lord and help to prepare a place for you. Rejoice in his "new home", that truly is "Paradise". I know you will miss him deeply, that is understandable, but rest assured he knows how much he was, is, and will always be loved.

Someday we will all meet and know each of our sacrifies made here on earth. No more will we have to fight for our lives, nor for the lives of those we love, or dont't even know. That is God's promise to us. To live with Him eternally, where ther is no more tears or sorrow. God bless each of you, and give you strength to carry on. My prayers are with you.
