I remember the first time that I met Jamie back in May of 2002. He was leading a 6 mile run down Ardennes street back in Fort Bragg, NC. I have to be honest, my first impression of Jamie is that he was a hell of a runner. He came to our platoon later on that summer. As I got to know him better I understood that he was a regular person with tremendous ambitions and aspirations. After deploying to Afghanistan and Iraq I got assigned to his platoon where he made me his squad leader. I was very excited and anxious to work with him since I had previously seen his leadership style. When we left for Afghanistan in March of 2005 we became very close and shared many stories and experiences. I still remember September 30, 2005 like it was yesterday. After a long day of patrolling we made a security halt on our way to a patrol base location for the next day's mission. While we were at the security halt we shared some jokes and talked about the route and grid coordinates. I also remember that he gave me some lemonade mix because he had some extra. The lemonade mix would not be the last thing he gave me, to this day I am still inspired by his fortitude and character. The last words we shared that day was that he was going to try to get me a GPS from supply. He was always taking care of me and making sure that the platoon was ok. To this day I still have not said good bye to Jamie and I dont think I will ever do. Jamie lives within me in my memories and I believe he watches over me and still takes care of me....

Sincerely,

Pedro D. Manriquez

In Memory of James ~ (Debra Estep)

Holding you all in my thoughts and prayers.

The Wind on The Downs

“I like to think of you as brown and tall,
As strong and living as you used to be,
In khaki tunic, Sam Brown belt and all,
And standing there and laughing down at me.
Because they tell me, dear, that you are dead,
Because I can no longer see your face,
You have not died, it is not true, instead
You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe;
I hear you laughing as you used to do,
Yet loving all the things I think of you;
And knowing you are happy, should I grieve?
You follow and are watchful where I go.”

(Written by Marian Allen during World War l )

Two lines that I wish you to keep near your heart…….

“You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe”

I did not know James, but I am remembering
his service. He is my hero. !

The Other Side

i'm over on the other side
where life and death softly divide.
left my skin and bones behind
now i'm over on the other side.

can you feel me there with you?
my breath is gone but i'm not through.
loved you then and i still do
from over on the other side.

i can fly. really fly.
below the earth ... all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

it's good here on the other side.
the sweetest songs...the bluest skies.
thank you for the tears you cried
but it's good here on the other side.

i can fly. really fly. below the earth...all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side

the world is smaller than a needle's eye.
where life and death softly divide.
when you leave your skin and bones behind
i'll be waiting on the other side.

i can fly. really fly. below the earth ... all through the sky.
go tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

You are remembered and respected. Thank you Sgt 1st Class Stoddard!

August 14, 2007

There is nothing that I can say or do to take away the pain or bring you peace in your time of sorrow, but I will offer you and your family my heart felt condolences. I also offer you my prayers that in time the pain will easy and the memories of your HERO will carry you through each day and night. I want to thank your HERO, for his/her selfless act of becoming a member of the armed forces, his/her willingness to defend the United States of America, all that we hold sacred and for the sacrifice that will forever be etched in the memories of all those who knew him/her. Though tears can never bring him/her back, we hope that our tears express our gratitude for the sacrifice that he/she made and our sorrow at his/her passing. I believe for every fallen HERO there is a star shining brightly up above to remind us of the precious gift we were given.

Your mission on earth is complete and you are now a member of GOD’s Heavenly armed forces. Stand down brave warrior and take your rightful place in Heaven with all the HEROES who have passed before.

I made a special promise to LE RON A. WILSON, a dear family friend who joined the Army with three other friends, one of whom is my son (Le Ron was killed in action on 07/06/07 at the age of 18) on the day he was laid to rest as I touched his coffin, that I would never forget him nor would I forget those that gave their lives for our country before him, with him and after him and so when I came across www.legacy.com, I thought what a great way to keep my promise to Le Ron, so I will continue to leave tributes in each guest book until the day there is no longer the need to leave these tributes to a FALLEN HERO.

REST IN PEACE, HERO, YOU WILL NEVER BE FORGOTTEN!!

July 25, 2007

It has been almost two years that Jamie was taken from our family. Two horrible years of not having that smile, the laugh, the hugs, the gentle loving man. We miss him so much that sometimes the pain is so hard to bear. His sisters Bridgett and Kate are at a loss for where to put their pain. Life with out their brother is like the beach without the sun. His wife and children have to live each day with out his love and caring. His children will never feel the hugs and love of a father again. His little girl will never know her Daddy.Only in pictures, how sad. His neices will never know the love of an Uncle who was so proud of his little sister and her children. His brother-in-law will never know how Jamie's love of him and respect for him brought him a brother he never had.His older sister who watched over her bother and sister now only has one sibling to watch over. The Three Muskateers are now two. His Aunts and Uncles miss him. They remember the child and how a man that made them so proud is gone. His cousins that he grew up with and loved like brother and sisters are grieving the loss of their cousin.
His Nonnie can't cry because it hurts too much. His family will never be the same without him. And his mother lives a life void of her Son, Her Ace! The only thought that keeps her moving is that Jamie and His Dad are togther watching over all of us, as they have always done. Life will never be the same without Jamie. A ray of sushine in our lives was stamped out. I have two beautiful daughters and five glorious grandchildren and a wonderful Daughter-in-law. With out them I don't know if I would still be here. The last two years have been hard on us all and I will never be the same. I have lost a child. And any Mother will tell you it doesn't make any difference what child, but a child! One that we raised, loved from the moment we concieved, through sleepless nights, colds, kindergarten, grammer school, High School, jobs, learning to drive a car. The Christmases, the Easters, the birthdays. The 10614 days of his life. The joys of him that were so much a part of us.
I miss my son, his hugs, his teasing, His voice,"Hi Mama" he would say. I want to scream out in pain, in anger at how unjust this is to have lost him. He did what he loved best and that is why I am so proud of him. He was a good boy, a good son, a good brother, a good husband and a wonderful father. But he died being a Great Soldier. I hope the Americans of the country realize that the sacrifice he and all of them make each and every day are for them. They don't get millions to do this job and they are working everyday of the year.
I am proud of my Son, James J. Stoddard Jr. He rests in Arlington now but I know that he runs the clouds of Heaven with his Father, GrandFather and His Cranma. Some day I will join him and his father and wait for the rest of you. And then we will have a Great Big Family Reunion. I love you my son.I love you my daughters. Mom is trying, give me time. And remember that I love you all.

July 23, 2007

Thank you for the sacrifice made by Sgt 1st Class Stoddard and the sacrifice made by everyone who loves and misses him! May God bless all of you!!

It has been over a year, and the time passes without you. How unfair it seems to me that you miss out on all of this life going on around us. I had a baby boy in November and I tell him about you every day, his cousin, the hero. I know you watch over us all, but I would much rather have you here to hug. I miss you Jamie, everyday! It is with great pride that I speak your name. We are helping your Mom, your wife and your little ones. It isn't easy to live without you, but we are trying.

Our family will never be the same due to this loss. One of us is gone now and none of us know how to live without him. My sister is broken and she will never heal. My family hurts for this boy that we all love so much. What pains me the most is that his children will never really know what it meant to be loved by Jamie. To feel that hug. To see that smile. We have lost one of the good guys, and we must all keep his memory alive.

I will carry you in my heart J.
