Hello,
We apologize for being so late in expressing our deepest condolences to you and your family. We want you to know that we will be sending Care Packages to deployed troops this holiday season and several of these will be dedicated to your loved one. Each package will carry the name, photo, service branch, rank and hometown of Dane O. Carver US Army Specialist.
We realize that this is a small tribute, but we do this with all respect and sincerity and we want you to know that it is made possible by thousands of like-minded individuals from across the American youth hockey community, their families, friends and others who support our mission.
We will not forget. May God Bless you and keep you safe and strong.
Sincerely,

The Wind on The Downs
“I like to think of you as brown and tall,
As strong and living as you used to be,
In khaki tunic, Sam Brown belt and all,
And standing there and laughing down at me.
Because they tell me, dear, that you are dead,
Because I can no longer see your face,
You have not died, it is not true, instead
You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe;
I hear you laughing as you used to do,
Yet loving all the things I think of you;
And knowing you are happy, should I grieve?
You follow and are watchful where I go.”
(Written by Marian Allen during World War l )
Two lines that I wish you to keep near your heart…….
“You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe”
I did not know Dane, but I am remembering
his service and sacrifice. He is my hero. !

The Other Side
i'm over on the other side
where life and death softly divide.
left my skin and bones behind
now i'm over on the other side.
can you feel me there with you?
my breath is gone but i'm not through.
loved you then and i still do
from over on the other side.
i can fly. really fly.
below the earth ... all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.
it's good here on the other side.
the sweetest songs...the bluest skies.
thank you for the tears you cried
but it's good here on the other side.
i can fly. really fly. below the earth...all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side
the world is smaller than a needle's eye.
where life and death softly divide.
when you leave your skin and bones behind
i'll be waiting on the other side.
i can fly. really fly. below the earth ... all through the sky.
go tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

My family is humbly blessed to have a part of Dane Carver in our home. We see him every time we go downstairs. We hear a part of him nearly every day. That part of him was bestowed on my daughter, Haleigh, not long after his passing. The Carver family blessed Haleigh with one of Danes most prized possesions, his drums. She can hardly speak of this experience without tearing up. In fact, she cried when she found out that Don and Candy wanted her to have them. Her and Dane both are gifted self taught drummers, and they were very kind to think of her as worthy of such an honor. Those drums are still a prized possession, not just for their purpose but for their value as a memorial to a fallen but not forgotten HERO. It may seem to be a small thing to some, but Danes life is celebrated in this house with music.

Dear Carver Family
My thoughts and prayers are with you as we go through another holiday season. I remember so well the night Chad found out about Dane. He was heartbroken when they (the honor guards) meant the plane that brought Dane home. I believe it was New Years Eve. Ironically, that is the same night we meant the plane bring Chad home to us. As we stood there I thought of the terrible pain and saddness that your family went throught, as have so many other families, before and after us. I just wanted to let you know that Dane is remembered, as are all the other heros who mad the ultimate sacrifice. God Bless

There is nothing that I can say or do to take away the pain or bring you peace in your time of sorrow, but I will offer you and your family my heart felt condolences. I also offer you my prayers that in time the pain will easy and the memories of your HERO will carry you through each day and night. I want to thank your HERO, for his/her selfless act of becoming a member of the armed forces, his/her willingness to defend the United States of America, all that we hold sacred and for the sacrifice that will forever be etched in the memories of all those who knew him/her. Though tears can never bring him/her back, we hope that our tears express our gratitude for the sacrifice that he/she made and our sorrow at his/her passing. I believe for every fallen HERO there is a star shining brightly up above to remind us of the precious gift we were given.
Your mission on earth is complete and you are now a member of GOD’s Heavenly armed forces. Stand down brave warrior and take your rightful place in Heaven with all the HEROES who have passed before.
I made a special promise to LE RON A. WILSON, a dear family friend who joined the Army with three other friends, one of whom is my son (Le Ron was killed in action on 07/06/07 at the age of 18) on the day he was laid to rest as I touched his coffin, that I would never forget him nor would I forget those that gave their lives for our country before him, with him and after him and so when I came across www.legacy.com, I thought what a great way to keep my promise to Le Ron, so I will continue to leave tributes in each guest book until the day there is no longer the need to leave these tributes to a FALLEN HERO.

To the Family of Spc. Dane O. Carver:
Your son's name, along with our sons, is forever together on a Memorial standing at Fort Indiantown Gap, Annville, PA. Their dogtags hang together forever moving with the wind creating a subtle sound, like the quiet whispers of the Fallen as they continue to speak to us. Attending this Memorial Dedication and hearing your child's name being read along with ours, has prompted me to sign this soldier's guestbook.
If your child can stand in battle to ensure my freedom, then I will stand in grief with his family to honor him. For every fallen HERO there is a bright star that shines in the evening sky to remind us of the cherished gift we were given – even if for too short a time.
My heart breaks again as I sign yet another guest book of another courageous young soldier who gave their life so selflessly. I wish I never found myself in a position to have to sign another guestbook for the rest of my life, but I promised Brent that neither he nor any like him would be forgotten and so I will continue until the day there is no longer the need.
We lost our son SFC Brent A. Adams on 12/1/05 as well and it seems like yesterday. I wish so badly there were things I could say to you right now to make the pain you are feeling go away, but I know first hand there simply are no words that will bring you the comfort and peace your heart aches for right now. Just know that you are not alone. My heart, thoughts, and prayers are with you all as you go through this tragedy moment by moment and as you mourn this loss.
We don't know each other, will probably never meet, but will forever be united in the loss of our Heroes. We have, unfortunately joined a group none of us wanted to join, an ever-growing group of families in this situation. May God grant you peace and strength to get through this and be able once again to smile at a memory rather than have only the tears that flow so easily now. To be so proud of your loved one and so saddened at the same time is a mix of emotions very difficult to deal with as our hearts both burst with pride and pain together.
I am sorry that I never knew your soldier personally. While they can never be replaced, neither will they ever be forgotten . You must trust that sometime, someday the loving memories you have will help to sustain you and help you go on. This courageous soldier will forever be your Angel watching over you all for the rest of your lives. It's what brings me some measure of peace and comfort and I hope it will you as well.
To his family and friends in pain, I offer this comfort: When you find yourself in that dark sorrowful place, think not only of how you will miss him, but instead recall the years, days, hours and minutes gifted to you by his presence. The one thing that cannot be taken from you is your wonderful memories that now will mean more than ever.
If you ever want to talk, I'm only an e:mail away and would love for you to tell me more about your Hero.
God Bless this soldier and family who gave all and God Bless legacy.com for setting up this site where families can so quickly share their condolences and prayers with others like themselves.

Dear Dane,
I thought I'd take this time to write you even though your not here right now. I know you can read this anyway. I'm sorry that I never got to say how proud I was to you face to face but I want you to know that you are my hero and no matter who comes along in my life you have reserved that spot in my heart. I never thought I would see the day when Dane O. Carver would go from playing army men in his bedroom to being any ARMY MAN. You grew up right underneath my nose and I was too caught up in my own life to realize it. And for that I apologize. There's not a day that goes bye that I don't think of something that you said or did that made me laugh. That's pretty much what are relationship was about, having fun. Remember the time when your dad found a bag of white powder in the house that you were using for I think some sort of game like cops and robbers or something. And he wanted to know whose "bag of smack" it was. I don't think I ever laughed so hard in my life. Well except for the time when me and you were riding with a couple of othe friends in Aaron's car and I asked you what was wrong with your sister and you said she was "anal retentive" I think I cried from laughing so hard. I got more but I know your busy up there so I won't keep ya. But I want you to know that I was raised with to brothers and I ended up having three. So thank you for blessing me with your friendship and I love you brother...........

I was very lucky to have known Dane. He was a great friend, I had band with him, and he always made me laugh. He always seemed to cheer me up if I was down, or even just give me a hug, which made me feel like everything was ok. He was a great man, and a great friend. He's a true hero, and was always greatly respected. He always knew how to lighten up a situation, especially with his famous saying "Bigity Bam" Which was most of the time pointed toward our Band teacher Mr. Rickert. Psalm 23
1
The LORD is my shepherd, I shall not be in want.
2
He makes me lie down in green pastures, he leads me beside quiet waters,
3
He restores my soul. He guides me in paths of righteousness for his name's sake.
4
Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me.
5
You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies. You anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows.
6
Surely goodness and love will follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the LORD forever.
This is a verse that I have found to be comforting to me during my husbands death. Remember that when it seems that no one else is round, God is still there with you! And he will be your rock!

You have my deepest sympathy,
but it really doesn't help.
Your grief goes beyond
what words can express.
There's nothing anyone can say,
and nothing we can do
to heal your broken heart
or take away your pain.
Let God take you in His arms
and cover you with His love.
He knows the depth of your grief
and only He can give you peace.
He knows it will take time
for your heart to heal, and
your loved one has a place
that no one else can fill.
If there's any comfort let it be in this,
your loved one is with Jesus,
in a home that's filled with bliss.
There are no tears in Heaven,
no more heartache and no pain,
only love and happiness
for all eternity.
We must go on living and
do the best we can,
then when Jesus calls our name
we will be with them again.

Dane was my big cousin. He was always just so great. We were more childhood cousins... because we live so far apart and recently I have not been to Michigan. But we would talk on the phone and he was the greatest person you'd know.
When we were younger he taught me so much... we did the funnest things together and he always looked out for me. He always was my "big cousin Dane" and I looked up to him so much when we were younger. I STILL look up to him so much. I am so fortunate to have known Dane. We were shocked to hear of Dane's death and it seems impossible to speak of any consolation in the face of such a loss. You are such a strong and awesome family and our thoughts and prayers are with ALL of you...

To Dane's family. I did not know Dane personally, but feel deeply saddened of the news. Dane served along side of my daughter's fiance Ryan Senn. My daughter has nothing but good things to say about Dane. And you all feel like family when you have loved one's serving in this war. Our thought's and prayer's are with you in this time. We thank all our young men & woman who give thier lives for our freedom and safety.

I feel like I knew Dane simply from knowing SGT Spencer Akers who was in the same unit as Dane. I created a memorial website for Spence and have pictures of Spence and Dane together on there. I pray to God for peace in your hearts during this awful time.

Reading through these entries is a beautiful and bittersweet reminder of the innate goodness of the american people. My fiance Dane was a wonderful, amazing man who was loved by anyone who knew him, and touched hundreds who didn't by the way he lived his life, and by the way he died. His legacy is one of bravery and courage, and that's how he would want us to deal with these dark and confusing days ahead- days without him. I just wanted to post to say thank you to all of you, on behalf of myself and the Carvers...your prayers are our saving grace through this whole ordeal.

Although I never met Dane, he was family and loosing any family member is hard! My heart breaks for his mom (my cousin), dad, grandmother Jackie Sorensen (my aunt) and all the other family members left behind. They've lost something very precious!
