We wanted to let your family and friends know that we are sending Care Packages to deployed troops this week and some of these will be dedicated to your loved one. Each package will carry the name, photo and hometown of Ryan S. McCurdy US Marine Lance Corporal.

We realize that this is a small tribute, but we do this with all respect and sincerity and we want you to know that it is made possible by thousands of like-minded individuals from across the American youth hockey community, their families and friends and others who support our mission.

We will not forget. May God Bless you and keep you safe and strong.

It has truly been my honor to sign Ryan's guest book these past few years. Unfortunately, due to complications from my Multiple Sclerosis, this may be the last message I'm able to write. Please forgive me and know that Ryan will always be remembered in my home.

Dear Ryan,

I am remembering you most this Veteran's Day, and wanted to say that you really were one of the best friends I ever had as a boy. Thanks for all the late night raids in the woods, and awesome years in baseball. I joined the USMC and did four honorable years in your memory, Brother. You are always with me in spirit. Dear Jan,
I'm Sandra Stewart, mother of Cpl. David S. "Bear" Stewart who was killed in Haditha, August 3, 2005. You and I have met on a couple of occasions. I heard you went to the cemetery at dawn the other day. I often go to the cemetery at dusk. I share your grief for your beloved Ryan and for the bewildered feeling that our beautiful sons were here and then in an instant they were snatched away. Grief and remembrance never end. We just learn to function with all the agony inside. I wish blessings and comfort for you. I will never forget your beloved Ryan. Sandra Stewart, Gold Star Mother of Cpl. The Wind on The Downs

“I like to think of you as brown and tall,
As strong and living as you used to be,
In khaki tunic, Sam Brown belt and all,
And standing there and laughing down at me.
Because they tell me, dear, that you are dead,
Because I can no longer see your face,
You have not died, it is not true, instead
You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe;
I hear you laughing as you used to do,
Yet loving all the things I think of you;
And knowing you are happy, should I grieve?
You follow and are watchful where I go.”

(Written by Marian Allen during World War l )

Two lines that I wish you to keep near your heart…….

The Other Side

i'm over on the other side
where life and death softly divide.
left my skin and bones behind
now i'm over on the other side.

can you feel me there with you?
my breath is gone but i'm not through.
loved you then and i still do
from over on the other side.

i can fly. really fly.
below the earth ... all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

it's good here on the other side.
the sweetest songs...the bluest skies.
thank you for the tears you cried
but it's good here on the other side.

i can fly. really fly. below the earth...all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side

the world is smaller than a needle's eye.
where life and death softly divide.
when you leave your skin and bones behind
i'll be waiting on the other side.

i can fly. really fly. below the earth ... all through the sky.
go tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

If this person can stand in battle to ensure my freedom, then I will stand in grief with his/her family to honor him/her. For every fallen HERO there is a bright star that shines in the evening sky to remind us of the cherished gift we were given – even if for too short a time.
My heart breaks again as I sign yet another guest book of another courageous young soldier who gave their life so selflessly. I wish I never found myself in a position to have to sign another guest book for the rest of my life, but I promised LE RON A. WILSON (a dear friend KIA 7/6/07, 18yrs old) that neither he nor any like him would be forgotten and so I will continue until the day there is no longer the need.

McCurdy Family,
I have just found this page. I think about Ryan daily. I served with him throughout boot camp and the School of Infantry, and 1/8. My friends and I always laugh about how McCurdy would come into our squadbay at SOI and scream "get on line 2nd platoon" and that loud rolling voice of his. At the time it made all of us mad because it seemed like he was the only one motivated to train. I was near him that day in January and we stood post together shortly before that day. He's truly my hero and his attitude left a lasting impression on my friends and I. He sure was a loving brother, he always talked about his brother who also serves. I hope you liked the memorial and those crazy blue shower shoes we had on that plaque. If there is anything that any of us can do for you now or in the future feel free to give us a call and you'll be taken care of very well.

Dear Mrs. Jan and Grant,

I don't exactly know what you are going through but i do know something quite close. I lost my grandfather several years ago when i was on vacation in Flordia. In the middle of the night i woke up in a motor home and my whole family was crying i didn't realize what had happened until my mom said Joy "Papaw died last night". Those words were like a heart attack to me. I didn't know what to do. I do know that if you pray and trust God he will make the bad turn into good. Ryan would always play with me at the webb's house. He would swim and play cards with us and he would always be smiling when he did it. When Ryan came to see my dad he stood up gave him a firm hand shake and said good to see you coach and that is when my dad said Ryan is a soldier. Ryan was very beloved to my family and i. But now he is in a better place not worrying about death. And we will all see him again. Just think about this Mrs, Jan and Grant he may have died but it is a new beggining!!

God Bless,

Although me and Ryan weren't best friends, we basically grew up together. I remember Ryan playing little league baseball and then highschool football with me. People like Ryan are hard to come by. No matter what situation he was in, he was always cheerful and joking around. It seemed as if nothing ever bothered him and always met opposition with a smile. Ryan is what makes this country great and is a hero. I am proud to say I knew Ryan and hope that I will be half the man he was. My condolences go out to your family.

I have helped you in the office to answer phones and we have had many conversations. I knew Ryan because i would always go out to the Webb's house and me and Jadyn would always play cards with Ryan. Ryan once stopped Jadyn from jumping in the pool in his underwear when it was 32 degrees out side. When i found out that that all would not happen again i lost it. if i knew Ryan just a little better i might be able to say that he was like a brother to me. Dearest McCurdys,It is 11:07a.m. as I am writing this up here in Downtown Baton Rouge. Your beloved Lance Corporal McCurdy's service has probably begun. You are in my thoughts and prayers as are ALL of our Brave Troops, those in Iraq and Afghanistan, and serving all over the world to protect our freedom and that of all people. I am most touched by the notes from families of other Brave Marines and Troops, especially those killed in action. My dear friends' son,Lance Cpl.Ben Ory,USMC, is on his third tour in Iraq;and my best friend's brother served in Iraq for over a year with Army Cavalry. He was burned in an attack on his Bradley Fighting Vehicle which killed their driver but has recovered. In fact,Staff Sgt. Jeremy Smith, refused the chance to go back to Germany to recover and rejoin his platoon as soon as possible. I have long been touched by sacrifice and courage as shown by Ryan as ours has been a military family. My second cousin in the Army died in Viet Nam. Dad served in World War II along with his younger brother. The youngest brother was in Korea, their Dad in World War I. My heart and prayers go out to you. I add encouragement and prayers for you too, Lance Cpl. Grant McCurdy. I am only too sad that I never got to know this Gallant Young Hero in person! I salute you,Lance Cpl. Ryan McCurdy...May God Bless and Keep You along with your Family!

God bless you and your family and the many other Marines and soldiers bravely going in harm's way for all of us. And...God Bless America.

Mother and Son

Having a son is such a special blessing from God. When you hold that tiny baby boy for the first time, your heart melts. You have so many dreams for your son. He's perfect in your eyes. Then he grows into a little boy. And the phrase "Boys will be boys" becomes so real. As your son grows, so do you. As he goes through his teenage years you learn what unconditional love really means. And your dreams for your son become a little clearer than when he was first born. Your most important dream is for your son to believe in God and to serve Him. Then you want your son to be proud of who he has become.

By: Susan Autrey a mother of two sons.

Jan,

Ryan fulfilled both of these dreams. And I know you're extremely proud of him. I remember one day Ryan and I were talking about what he was going to do after he graduated. He told me he was going into the service. When I asked him which one. He answered by making a fist with his right hand and putting it over his heart and said "I'm going to be the best, a Marine! And I will make it." He did make it and I'm so proud of him.

Jan, just about everyday of Ryan's jr. and sr. year he would stick his head in my classroom and with a big smile he would say "Hi, Mrs. Autrey." No matter what kind of day I was having he always made it brighter. I miss that! I'm sure he brightened so many lives in Iraq with that wonderful smile too. Ryan will be missed by all that knew him. I guess God needed a really great Marine.

Thank you for the sacifice that Ryan chose by serving our country as a U.S. Marine, he was a honorable man.

My son, Benjamin Boeneke is also 20 yrs old & a Lance Corporal in the U. S. Marines. Ben and Ryan met while both of them were in boot camp in Parris Island, SC. In 1 of Ben's letters, he wrote about meeting Ryan.

When my nephew (Jared Mizell) heard that Ryan was killed, his dad called us, because they knew Ben and Ryan knew each other.

Over the past week, your family has been on my mind alot. Our family sends you our deepest sympathy. Please know as a mom and family of a U. S. Marine, we stand in prayer with you that God will continue to strength you & your family during this difficult time.

God Bless

Jan and Grant, God will turn your mourning into joy; You WILL be reunited with Ryan one day.

Our thoughts and prayers are with you during this saddest of times.

We are so thankful to Ryan for serving our country. I think of him when I'm doing even the smallest of things, thinking, "But for those willing to fight for freedom, what little freedom we would have." His memory is precious indeed!

Stand firm, stand tall; Ryan is watching from a far greater vantage point than we could ever imagine.

To Ryan's family and friends-

My family and I are praying for you and your family during this difficult time. We send our deepest empathy as we lost our Marine on 11/30/05 in Fallujah. We are comforted to know that our Marines are serving their country with such honor and bravery. We are so proud of our Marines and all of our other service men and women for all that they have done and continue to do to keep us safe and to give us the freedom we have that so many take for granted.

They are true Heroes and need to always be remembered for their selflessness and sacrifice to better our world. We will forever be united in the loss of our heros. We are so sorry for your loss and hope our words will ease some of the pain, and maybe fill some of your emptiness.

Yesterday, Today, Forever – Semper Fi - Marines!

Our sincerest gratitude for their bravery-

Dear Mrs. McCurdy,

My son Chase played soccer with Ryan at CLA, and I was fortunate enough to know him while I coached him those few years. I always loved his spirit. He was a respectful and happy young man. I know he must have been a very good soldier, and is a great loss to our community and country. Thank you for raising someone so willing to give so much for the cost of freedom.

God bless you!

Dear Jan, Stan, and LCpl Grant McCurdy,

Once again a distant bugle sounds and our nation mourns the loss of one of our own. Ryan died doing what he wanted to do, but I know that does not make his loss any easier for you. As a mom my heart breaks for you. As an American I'm grateful for young men like Ryan. Jan, thank you for raising, not one, but two, fine young men. We are proud of them both. Ryan will not be forgotten. His name will be etched into monuments, and written across our hearts.

Grant, our prayers will continue for you and your Marine brothers as you carry on your service. Semper Fi! Well done, son...You will be missed by so many.

Dear Jan, l will always hold dear the memories of Ryan sitting in my fifth grade class thumping his pencil while grinning at me and saying,"Hey, Mrs. Farrell, now what do you want me to do?" Contrast that to 10 years later-" Hey, Mrs. Farrell I'm a Marine and I'm loving it." I"ll cherish all those trips he made to C.L.A. to say "Hi!" Death is a little easier when you know someone died doing what they wanted to do.God Bless you. I love you. D. Farrell

Psalm 23

1

The LORD is my shepherd, I shall not be in want.

2

He makes me lie down in green pastures, he leads me beside quiet waters,

3

He restores my soul. He guides me in paths of righteousness for his name's sake.

4

Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me.

5

You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies. You anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows.

6

Surely goodness and love will follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the LORD forever.

This is a verse that I have found to be comforting to me during my husbands death. Remember that when it seems that no one else is round, God is still there with you! And he will be your rock!

My daughter,McKaLyne, and I send our heartfelt sympathy for your loss! God Bless this warrior, God Bless those whom serve freedom's cause! They are our true HERO's!!!!
