Memorial Day is coming and while I try to ignore it, I know the day will come as surely as you are gone. I love you and miss you so very much Charlie. Times get hard and I think of you and pray for strength. I know you are walking with me but oh how I wish you were here. I love you so very much. Momma

Well Charlie it was 18 years ago today at just about this hour that I hugged and kissed you good bye. You were heading back to Ft Hood anticipating your next deployment. My heart was heavy then as it is today. Your death broke me in ways I never knew possible. I love you so much my baby boy and each year gets me one year closer to seeing you again. You are my heart. Love, Momma

I always think of you around this time, around times when I reflect back on our deployment. You're never far from my memories on that awful day...but I also think about the last time we laughed when we were at HOPE. Orders PCS'd my family to Washington and as usual I looked you up and couldn't believe you were from Stanwood...I visited your grave before, took my kids to show them true heroism. I'll forever be indebted to you for your selfless sacrifice. I'll pay my respects again SGT. May you rest in eternal peace and power. -Hounds of Hell! Hooah!

I am a cousin of the Matheny's that lived in the Eatonville area. We visited Charles' grave in 2016. It was very moving. We lost our son in 2017 and now fully feel his family's pain when losing a son.

"Son, my words won't come, but here are some that express my feelings on this coming 8th anniversary of your death. I love you Charlie and miss you so very much.

As Tears Go By...

It is the evening of the day,
I sit and watch the children play.
Smiling faces I can see
But not for me,
I sit and watch as tears go by.

My riches can't buy everything,
I want to hear the children sing.
All I hear is the sound
Of rain falling on the ground,
I sit and watch as tears go by.

It is the evening of the day,
I sit and watch the children play.
Doing things I used to do
They think are new,
I sit and watch as tears go by.

Hmm, hmm, hmm, hmm, hmm, hmm, hmm, hmm, hmm, hmm, hmm
Hmm, hmm, hmm, hmm, hmm, hmm, hmm, hmm, hmm, hmm, hmm

Love you always,
Momma

Here we are again Charlie. Another year has passed here without you. My heart still aches for you and I guess it always will. So much has changed while you've been there, but I am sure you know all about that. Especially the part about Brian making me a Grandma and you a very cool Uncle. Wasn't the original plan for either of us but somehow it seems right and I know you are as pleased by it as I am. The sun today was just like it was the day we lost you and I watched it out my office window and I thought about you and that day. That day I took a walk but today I just couldn't. Four years have passed but it still feels like yesterday to me. I will carry you in my heart tomorrow and for you son, I vow to try to think of happier times and remember the special love we shared. I can only imagine the party you must be having up there, but please understand if us mere mortals down here feel a little sad and miss you like crazy. Charlie I loved you yesterday, and I love you today and tomorrow I will love you even more. My forever will be with you, and until then I will remember . . . . . . Love Always Momma

August 22, 2007

There is nothing that I can say or do to take away the pain or bring you peace in your time of sorrow, but I will offer you and your family my heart felt condolences. I also offer you my prayers that in time the pain will easy and the memories of your HERO will carry you through each day and night. I want to thank your HERO, for his/her selfless act of becoming a member of the armed forces, his/her willingness to defend the United States of America, all that we hold sacred and for the sacrifice that will forever be etched in the memories of all those who knew him/her. Though tears can never bring him/her back, we hope that our tears express our gratitude for the sacrifice that he/she made and our sorrow at his/her passing. I believe for every fallen HERO there is a star shining brightly up above to remind us of the precious gift we were given.

Your mission on earth is complete and you are now a member of GOD’s Heavenly armed forces. Stand down brave warrior and take your rightful place in Heaven with all the HEROES who have passed before.

I made a special promise to LE RON A. WILSON, a dear family friend who joined the Army with three other friends, one of whom is my son (Le Ron was killed in action on 07/06/07 at the age of 18) on the day he was laid to rest as I touched his coffin, that I would never forget him nor would I forget those that gave their lives for our country before him, with him and after him and so when I came across www.legacy.com, I thought what a great way to keep my promise to Le Ron, so I will continue to leave tributes in each guest book until the day there is no longer the need to leave these tributes to a FALLEN HERO.

REST IN PEACE, HERO, YOU WILL NEVER BE FORGOTTEN!!
