You died protecting my freedom. Though I never knew you and only learned of your death today, your courage was immeasurable and you made the ultimate sacrifice for our country. I hope that my life can make good on your sacrifice and to the family, know that your beloved's life has not been forgotten. Even for a total stranger, CPL Procopio is a motivating force in the world.

To the family of Cpl. Scott J. Procopio:
Please know that just as your loved one remains in your hearts and minds; his sacrifice, and that of your family, remains with the people he died defending. Words cannot express the gratitude we feel for his bravery and selflessness, or the heartache we feel for your loss. God bless and keep you always.

I didn't learn about the death of this brave young man until a few months ago. What a comfort to the family that he is home with his Lord and Savior. I never had the privilege of knowing Scott although I knew his family through church conferences and things like that years ago. (I last saw his parents at Sandy Higgins house when we were in NJ so my daughter could be a flower girl at Mike and Linda Rauseo's wedding.)Our hearts go out to all who miss him.

I had the honor and privilage to serve with Cpl Procopio in iraq, and i cannot begin to express the profound impact he had on me not only as a marine, but as a person. He was everything you could hope to strive to be. A great guy and a great leader. His memory will always live on.

I knew Scott Procopio in recruit training and the school of infantry in 2004. He helped me through some difficult times during training as my squad leader in boot camp and as a fellow classmate in SOI.
I have nothing but fond memories of him, from him bartering with chow hall employees to get dip for the platoon during boot camp, to making sure I passed battallion uniforms inspection by not recording many of the problems with my uniform that the inspector was dictating to him. Our boot camp platoon respected him so much that we voted him the Marine we would most want to lead us into combat.
It has been 2 years and I still reflect on Procopio and the decency of his character. He was a young man that embodied strength, passion, and natural leadership. Those who were near him during his life gained strength from his giving spirit and his character as a man and a Marine. I look back to my memories of him from my time in the Marine Corps and I know that the strength, empathy, and honor with which he lived his life overshadows his tragic death. He was a great man then, and he is a great man even now.

“I like to think of you as brown and tall,
As strong and living as you used to be,
In khaki tunic, Sam Brown belt and all,
And standing there and laughing down at me.
Because they tell me, dear, that you are dead,
Because I can no longer see your face,
You have not died, it is not true, instead
You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe;
I hear you laughing as you used to do,
Yet loving all the things I think of you;
And knowing you are happy, should I grieve?
You follow and are watchful where I go.”
(Written by Marian Allen during World War l )

There is nothing that I can say or do to take away the pain or bring you peace in your time of sorrow, but I will offer you and your family my heart felt condolences. I also offer you my prayers that in time the pain will easy and the memories of your HERO will carry you through each day and night. I want to thank your HERO, for his/her selfless act of becoming a member of the armed forces, his/her willingness to defend the United States of America, all that we hold sacred and for the sacrifice that will forever be etched in the memories of all those who knew him/her. Though tears can never bring him/her back, we hope that our tears express our gratitude for the sacrifice that he/she made and our sorrow at his/her passing. I believe for every fallen HERO there is a star shining brightly up above to remind us of the precious gift we were given.
Your mission on earth is complete and you are now a member of GOD’s Heavenly armed forces. Stand down brave warrior and take your rightful place in Heaven with all the HEROES who have passed before.
I made a special promise to LE RON A. WILSON, a dear family friend who joined the Army with three other friends, one of whom is my son (Le Ron was killed in action on 07/06/07 at the age of 18) on the day he was laid to rest as I touched his coffin, that I would never forget him nor would I forget those that gave their lives for our country before him, with him and after him and so when I came across www.legacy.com, I thought what a great way to keep my promise to Le Ron, so I will continue to leave tributes in each guest book until the day there is no longer the need to leave these tributes to a FALLEN HERO.

To the family of Cpl Scott J. Procopio: I wanted to express my heartfelt sorrow for the loss of your loved one, but also to express my gratitude and the admiration I feel for your son, for I had the inmense honor of serving with him.
Scott (Cpl Procopio) and myself were assigned to Platoon 2058, Golf Co., 2nd Bn. in Parris Island SC, when he and I went there in April of 2004. Scott quickly made a name for himself and motivated us recruits. The Drill Instructors quickly placed him as a Squad Leader, and while in that position, he was an example of esprit de corps, dedication, honor, courage and commitment. Myself and another friend (PFC Orejuela) recall a time when Scott, being the natural-born leader he was, wanted to show his prowess by eating a frog and then getting rashes on his arm. We had quite a chuckle that day. Oh yeah, and he definitely had a particular yell, that at times we wondered if he wasn't destined to become a Drill Instructor himself.
I have nothing but great memories of Cpl Procopio, and it's a great honor to have met him and served with him. Rest assured that your family will remain in my prayers.

Our heart fealt love and sympathies to the whole Procopio extended family in particular his wife Kristal, Kevin, Mary, Greg, Mark, Fran and the rest. I have thought often of Scott as I too wore an infantryman's uniform as a younger man in Canada. Two main differences were that we were not in any conflicts back then and I did not know the Lord at the time. We are thankful that Scott was ready to ready to meet his Maker because of another that paid the ultimate sacrifice at Calvary. I have heard that he was a very brave Marine in the face of great danger. I'm sure you are proud of him but will miss him deeply. Our prayers are with the family.

Dear Kristal, Kevin, Mary, Michael, Mark, & Greg,
We have never had the privilege of meeting Kristal and haven't seen Scott since he was a little guy - but our love, thoughts, and prayers have been with you all over the past difficult nearly two weeks. We're so thankful with you that Scott had trusted the Lord Jesus as his Saviour and you have the blessed hope of meeting him again in Heaven. We can't begin to understand what you have been going through but we know that you will have even more appreciation than most of us for another Father who "gave His only begotten Son." We're so thankful that we can entrust you to the loving care of One who is truly "always faithful." We would echo the words of your Uncle Matt: "Hope thou in God!"
In the mean time, we want to express our hearfelt thanks to all of our service men and women, and to you, their families, for the sacrifice that you have made. They have fought and given the ultimate sacrifice so that we, and others, may continue to enjoy the freedoms that we have. From the bottom of our hearts - thank you!
We're sure that your "peace in the midst of the storm" has been a tremendous testimony to many. May the Lord continue to bless and comfort you.
With our love in Him,
Debbie & Corey Pellerin

To the entire family of Scott Procopio; like many here I have no direct connection with your family, but my heart and prayers go out to you all. It is not fair or just for any parent to outlive their children especially at such a young age. Dear Beisel Family,
Even though we have never met I feel as if we are a part of a "family". My daughter's fiancee was killed in Iraq by an IED on Oct. 3, 2005. It is my prayer that God will hold you close to His heart as He has held my family these past months. May you feel His comfort and peace as you go thru these difficult days.

Our heartfelt sympathy to all of you. We live in your neighboring City of Everett, & we don't know any of you personally, but wanted you to know how truly sad we are for your loss. Scott was so young, and all the lives that were given
for the sake of Freedom. May his face always reflect in the breezes upon the American Flag.
We thank him, and He will stay in our prayers and hearts as well as
all of you. Stay strong and love one another. May all the wonderful memories of him, bring you peace, & comfort. God Bless all of you.
