Riley Baker Obituary
Riley served in the United States Marine Corps as a Scout Sniper and Team Leader in the War On Terrorism / Operation Iraqi Freedom. He was a 2002 graduate of Eureka High School where he was the school's first Missouri State high school wrestling champion. He was a member of the Most Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Riley enjoyed hunting, fishing and spending time with his family and friends.
He is survived by his parents: Grier Baker and wife Lisa of Pacific, Missouri and Katie Melies and husband Dave of Union, Missouri; two sisters: Megan Baker of Pacific, Missouri and Kristina Cordova and husband Aaron of Denver, Colorado; one step-sister: Sara Melies of Union and two step-brothers: Christopher Melies and David Melies of Union, Missouri; paternal grandparents: Channing and Margaret Baker of Eureka, Missouri and John Stewart of Fenton, Missouri; great uncle and aunt: Ken and Beth Elam of Eureka, Missouri; maternal grandparents: Tom and Shirley Casey of Pevely, Missouri and Dave Melies Sr. of Koeltztown, Missouri; The Moore Family; 3BN, 8th Marines Sniper Platoon: Daniel 'Boo' Stanaland; Sniper Team II: Sgt. Hamilton, LCpl Mediroers, Doc Leviner, LCpl Briskin and LCpl Fitzpatrick and many other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents: Valle and Bert Elam.Services: Friends will be received from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 29, 2006 at the Most Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Eureka with a Memorial Service following the visitation at 8:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday at the Most Sacred Heart Catholic Church with Fr. Alex Anderson officiating. Interment will follow in Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery with full military honors under the auspices of the United States Marine Corps. Memorials may be made to the Injured Marine Semper Fi Fund or the Riley E. Baker Wrestling Scholarship Fund in care of CUNNINGHAM-MILLARD-CANTRIEL Funeral Home 108 N. Central Ave. Eureka, MO 63025. 636-938-3000.

Saw a post on LinkedIn for Riley and something compelled me to look him up. I see he's from Eureka and I now remember seeing his sign on 44 as I live in Richmond Heights. I am sure he was a great man and I would have been very lucky if I knew him. Semper Fi.

To Riley's family,
My son joined the Marines in October 2016, right out of high school. He is currently a part of the 2/4, based out of Camp P. Being a father of a United States Marine, I always notice the signs that the city of Pacific proudly displays on I-44. I didn't know Riley. But I think about him every time I See them. I have googled Riley's exploits and am so very impressed by his courage and unselfishness. The pain of losing a son is unfathomable. Your family and Riley will remain in my prayers. Forever. He will NEVER be forgotten.

Thinking of you Riley. Your unit replaced the unit our adopted Marine was in. When he heard of your death it really effected him. Marines, brothers for life. Your death touched so many who did not know you. Your service to our country will never be forgotten. Your life will never be forgotten with your family and friends, and in the hearts of strangers. I felt compelled to send a note, letting you know that even strangers pray for the families of our wonderful soldiers. My 15 year old daughter and I were stuck in traffic yesterday behind a Camry with a yellow star plate 'my son' and a memorial sticker for Riley. That prompted us to learn about Riley and we are so glad we got to know him through the internet and posts here. May God bless all of you as we begin another holiday season.

I would like to thank you Riley for your service and sacrifice, I would like to thank the Melies, and Baker families for raising such an outstanding young man. I was blessed with meeting Riley when he was a very young man. I have a great friend that lived across the street from the Bakers, His name is Doc, When he was young we used to call him Cpl O'Riley after the T.V. show F-troop, lol It makes me smile just thinking about him and his sister Megan those kids always had a smile on there faces, And I was blessed though the years to get to see Riley from time to time. Just an outstanding young man. Humble and respectful, thoughtful a great guy, I pray that God bless our soldiers and all these families, that has blessed us with such BRAVE men and women.

My Brother, You couldn't have known I climbed the Grim Reaper in Jan of '68 with the cast iron base of an M-60 at 3 am and joined you in brotherhood. I just would like you to know how much us boys from home love you and miss you so much each and every day. We think of you always because you change our lives and help us to be the men we are today. I just wanted to let you know that i hear so much of your wonderful son. I just married Ryan Wheeler who had the honor and privielge to serve and be friends with riley in Iraq. I can say for my husband that there is not one day that goes by that Ryan does not think or talk about Riley. He lives on in our family thanks to the memories he and Ryan made together.
