It´s been 18 years dad. I wish I could have met you but every one told me you were an amazing guy and would have loved how I´ve turned out. I´ve been crying about you the past couple weeks just wishing you were here. So I can have at least one hug, one conversation, or even just to hear your voice. I hope heaven is treating you well up there. One day we´ll be able to meet. But till then keep watching over me.

I was tasked to do a small presentation on a Service Member from my home town who gave their life in the line of duty. I was born in raised in Sanford, FL and while looking I found SPC Rogers. I choose you, because like you, I am a medic (Corpsman). I want to start off first of all by saying Thank you for your service and your sacrifice. You embody the Combat Medic Creed of “Do No Harm, Do Know Harm”. You selflessly gave your life to protect your brothers in arms. Without your heroic actions it is without a doubt that many more Soldiers would have lost their lives that day. Again, Thank You.

Nick, Its been a really long time since ive seen you. When you were in GA headed for NY I was leaving Ft. Drum where you were headed passing each other by just a few miles along the way I was headed to GA where you were coming from. The day I found you passed away was one of the hardest days ive faced, Ppl say dealing with it should come naturally although it does not just because you know someone in the military or are in the military does not make the loss any less painful. There are lots of things I wish I could have said or done but the time is now passed but know that we all miss you, I miss you. We got along great when we were kids I miss those days. I hope to one day meet your girls and see you in them :) I hope one day we will see each other again and chit chat about old times :) till then cousin, Good-bye. Love you.

Holding you all in my thoughts and prayers.
The Wind on The Downs
“I like to think of you as brown and tall,
As strong and living as you used to be,
In khaki tunic, Sam Brown belt and all,
And standing there and laughing down at me.
Because they tell me, dear, that you are dead,
Because I can no longer see your face,
You have not died, it is not true, instead
You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe;
I hear you laughing as you used to do,
Yet loving all the things I think of you;
And knowing you are happy, should I grieve?
You follow and are watchful where I go.”
(Written by Marian Allen during World War l )
Two lines that I wish you to keep near your heart…….
“You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe”
I did not know Nicholas, but I am remembering
his service and sacrifice. He is my hero. !

The Other Side
i'm over on the other side
where life and death softly divide.
left my skin and bones behind
now i'm over on the other side.
can you feel me there with you?
my breath is gone but i'm not through.
loved you then and i still do
from over on the other side.
i can fly. really fly.
below the earth ... all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.
it's good here on the other side.
the sweetest songs...the bluest skies.
thank you for the tears you cried
but it's good here on the other side.
i can fly. really fly. below the earth...all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side
the world is smaller than a needle's eye.
where life and death softly divide.
when you leave your skin and bones behind
i'll be waiting on the other side.
i can fly. really fly. below the earth ... all through the sky.
go tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

There is nothing that I can say or do to take away the pain or bring you peace in your time of sorrow, but I will offer you and your family my heart felt condolences. I also offer you my prayers that in time the pain will easy and the memories of your HERO will carry you through each day and night. I want to thank your HERO, for his/her selfless act of becoming a member of the armed forces, his/her willingness to defend the United States of America, all that we hold sacred and for the sacrifice that will forever be etched in the memories of all those who knew him/her. Though tears can never bring him/her back, we hope that our tears express our gratitude for the sacrifice that he/she made and our sorrow at his/her passing. I believe for every fallen HERO there is a star shining brightly up above to remind us of the precious gift we were given.
Your mission on earth is complete and you are now a member of GOD’s Heavenly armed forces. Stand down brave warrior and take your rightful place in Heaven with all the HEROES who have passed before.
I made a special promise to LE RON A. WILSON, a dear family friend who joined the Army with three other friends, one of whom is my son (Le Ron was killed in action on 07/06/07 at the age of 18) on the day he was laid to rest as I touched his coffin, that I would never forget him nor would I forget those that gave their lives for our country before him, with him and after him and so when I came across www.legacy.com, I thought what a great way to keep my promise to Le Ron, so I will continue to leave tributes in each guest book until the day there is no longer the need to leave these tributes to a FALLEN HERO.

Hey Brother,
It seems like yesterday that everything I thought & believed in just upped & changed on me. I never in a million years thought that I should have to worry about something happening to you. It has been nine months & it still doesn’t seem real to me. I was just home again for a couple of weeks & saw the family. It was so nice to be able to go out to dinner with them, but at the same time it felt so wrong you not being there. I guess since I am so far away from everybody all the time it is hard for me to accept the fact that you are gone. The girls are growing up so quickly, but every time I see them all I can think about is how much they remind me of you.
I got a new tattoo to honor your memory, it turned out awesome, and I think you would really like it. Anytime someone sees it, they always want to talk about it. It is a good thing, because I feel like I am keeping your memory alive in my own way. We have moved into our new house her in Jolly Old England. It is nice, but there are times when I wish that I could just move back to Deltona to be close to all my friends and family. Oh well, duty calls as they say and I honestly can’t picture myself doing anything differently.
I miss you brother, but I will continue to serve so that your life will not have been lost in vain. I believe in what we are doing, even though nobody else does. Rest easy brother, I will make sure that nothing happens to your family. Watch over me when I deploy, give me the strength and wisdom to teach my troops how to safely complete their missions. Love Always, SSgt Jeff Payne

Hey, Nick...Miss ya. It's Michelle from Domino's. Well, I finally moved back to KY like I told you I would. Before I left though, Christina & I came by to see you. It almost wasn't 'real' until then, the reality slammed me in the chest like a sledgehammer. I can't believe you're gone. I'll never forget you...you always had a smile and a funny story to tell, and never let my grumpiness ruin your good mood (and how many times did I come into work in a tizzy? lol) You're in my thoughts often...

My son, seven months have passed since you were taken from us. Seems like yesterday. Today is Memorial Day. Of course we have been asked to attend many different events today. We all deal with our grief in different ways. Who would have thought that your Dad's and my ways would be so opposite. He deals with his openly and publicly. Me, I'd rather sit in dark and cry alone. I missed your emails, you IM's, your phone calls and your hugs. Jocelyn and Isabelle are so much like you in different ways. They keep me going. Love and miss you always. Mom

Nick, it's been a long long time and I just can't believe what I'm seeing. I realized that you and I joined the army around the same time. I thought that was very interesting. I am here at Ft. Bragg and will continue to fight for you and our country. You made a permanent impression in my life. Thank you for all you've done. I'm so sorry you had to leave this world far far too soon. You will always be remembered.

Happy Birthday Nick.
Jocelyn thought it was a good idea to get you a cake for your birthday. So we did. Jocelyn said she would blow the candles out for you, and she did. We sat graveside and Jocelyn sang "Happy Birthday" and blew out the candles and we ate cake.
We miss you so much. Not an hour goes by that we don't think of you. Jocelyn has a new favorite movie, "Casper". She asked me tonight where you were. I told her again that you could never come home. She quoted a line from the movie about her Dad made a machine that would bring you back to life. So then I had to explain how movies are not real and there is no medicine to bring people back to life but if there was such a thing that we would use it. She is so smart and soaks up everything that she hears.
Love you bunches.

“Soldier”
Written to Honor the Service of Our Fallen Soldiers
Soldiers write history, we pay the price
Many miles distant, you live the life
Entered the Battle of our own free will
Out of Duty for Country, and we’d do it still
We hope and pray that all will find peace
In God, in the flag, in memories of valor
Gone now, our pride and courage you see
“An Army of One” our motto forever
Willing to risk all for love of our Brothers
We’re still Your Soldiers…and we showed the way
Our Lives too short, now pray for the others
Lived free died Heroes in lands far away
Deep within souls all cherished our Service
We’ll always have what some never know
Courage and Honor, our names forever
Lived life with purpose…just our time to go
We march in the Heavens with Honor and Glory
Missions accomplished we fought the Good Fight
Many years from now…we’ll tell the full story
Until that Day we will live in the Light
Our lives we laid down in a land far away
Still watching o’er you this night and by day
No need to talk…just know we are with you
There in your hearts and we hear what you pray
Yes we are your soldiers
Our lives we laid down
Still We guard o’er you
Still Duty bound
Entered the Battle of our own free will
Out of Duty for Country, and we’d do it still
We’ll always have what some never know
Lived life with purpose…it was our time to go

To the Family of Spc. Nicholas K. Rogers:
If your child can stand in battle to ensure my freedom, then I will stand in grief with his family to honor him. For every fallen HERO there is a bright star that shines in the evening sky to remind us of the cherished gift we were given – even if for too short a time.
My heart breaks again as I sign yet another guest book of another courageous young soldier who gave their life so selflessly. I wish I never found myself in a position to have to sign another guestbook for the rest of my life, but I promised Brent that neither he nor any like him would be forgotten and so I will continue until the day there is no longer the need.
We lost our son SFC Brent A. Adams on 12/1/05 as well and it seems like yesterday. I wish so badly there were things I could say to you right now to make the pain you are feeling go away, but I know first hand there simply are no words that will bring you the comfort and peace your heart aches for right now. Just know that you are not alone. My heart, thoughts, and prayers are with you all as you go through this tragedy moment by moment and as you mourn this loss.
We don't know each other, will probably never meet, but will forever be united in the loss of our Heroes. We have, unfortunately joined a group none of us wanted to join, an ever-growing group of families in this situation. May God grant you peace and strength to get through this and be able once again to smile at a memory rather than have only the tears that flow so easily now. To be so proud of your loved one and so saddened at the same time is a mix of emotions very difficult to deal with as our hearts both burst with pride and pain together.
I am sorry that I never knew your soldier personally. While they can never be replaced, neither will they ever be forgotten . You must trust that sometime, someday the loving memories you have will help to sustain you and help you go on. This courageous soldier will forever be your Angel watching over you all for the rest of your lives. It's what brings me some measure of peace and comfort and I hope it will you as well.
To his family and friends in pain, I offer this comfort: When you find yourself in that dark sorrowful place, think not only of how you will miss him, but instead recall the years, days, hours and minutes gifted to you by his presence. The one thing that cannot be taken from you is your wonderful memories that now will mean more than ever.
If you ever want to talk, I'm only an e:mail away and would love for you to tell me more about your Hero.
God Bless this soldier and family who gave all and God Bless legacy.com for setting up this site where families can so quickly share their condolences and prayers with others like themselves.
